Event Coverage: Maxbimmer Autumn e30 meet 2009

6

Even though I don’t drive an e30 anymore I still have my ear to the ground when it comes to what’s going on in the community, so I watched this years thread about the Autumn e30 meet on max and figured it would be worth making an appearance. The turnout was awesome and I am really glad I made it out, it was a good excuse to  kill an afternoon, reminisce, and do some ‘spirited’ driving.

For whatever reason every e30 meet has a disproportionate amount of red e30s

Early Models (1984-1989)
Having owned an early model e30 myself I think they get a bum wrap on account of the US/Canadian spec bumpers but those brave enough to still rock them do a good job.

New owner same great car, Cam told me he is not doing a bumper swap, nice!

With these bumpers painted and tucked they are hardly noticeable

Tourings and M3s
I would gladly own either of these e30 chassis one of each would be preferable.

Late Models (1989-92)
late model owners have it easy, it doesn’t take much to make these cars look great.

  1. Oh, I want one of the “Car Enthusiast” things for my cars. I never quite know how to answer the, “Do you race?” question all the time, since some are only asking about street racing, which I don’t support.

Yes, more please! 😀 I love these cars…. For someone who started off unsure about BMW, I quickly realized that they still make good cars, for one, and have a history full of awesome models. That older M3 is just too beautiful for words, but it barely eeks out the others for prettiest car to me. (Because I have a huge weak spot for M3’s, and am contemplating dumping my Elise dream to get an M3 sooner. I can always have both, I guess, but I need to pick which I get first! :))

  2. Foxie the sticker you can get here: http://shinzostore.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=shop.flypage&product_id=240&category_id=16&manufacturer_id=0&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=40

As far as 4 banger track rippers go the e30 m3 is one of the best. Getting a little up there in price these days (especially around these parts where things rust out) and there is a general 14k rule if you pay less be prepared to pay more later. I would like an e30 m3 but my attainable holy grail is still the GMC Typhoon!

  3. Nice, picture of my car!! Underbadging, haha, I swear there is a 1.8L in it.

I think the E30 M3’s are upto the 20k rule now haha. And Foxie has the right idea, screw the Lotus, E30 M3 all the way.

  4. Dave — Thanks!! I’m so buying one for each of my cars. 🙂 I got this crazy idea to sticker-fy the heck out of my Miata’s bumper, since it’s all scratched now. Sure, I could get it fixed, but the paint’s never gonna match enough for me. Stickers, though, could be pretty sweet. (Project “Sticker me with love” perhaps?)

Whether I get an older one or a newer one, an M3 is definitely on my to own list. Cars on there don’t have cost as a high consideration, to be honest… If I want it, I can find a way to get it!

  5. I have huge love for all BMW’s pre-2003 (the new ones take time to grow on me) and a soft spot for 3er wagons, but I second the notion of the GMC Typhoon being the holy Grail of classics of “our time”
