When he rode it wasn’t uncommon to see him do a trick over and over until he deemed it was perfect, even though the rest of us thought it was perfect sixteen tries previous.

These days he has focused his passion towards photography and has approached it with the same mindset.

If I were to ask Nick which of his photos were his favorite chances are he would only answer me after explaining how each of them could be better if he were to shoot them all again.

But that’s just Nick, he is not the type to ever stop trying to improve or settle for ‘pretty good’ and this is the reason why I believe that the sky is truly the limit when it comes to how far automotive photography is going to take him in the future.

In the year or so that he has truly dedicated himself to capturing motorsport Nick has been fortunate enough to travel to several  events in the United States at famed venues such as Watkins Glen, and Lime Rock.

A little closer to home he has also covered three different top tier events here at Mosport Raceway in Bomanville Ontario.

Now that things have calmed down I am very happy to have the opportunity to present a small sampling of the work done by this quick learning, self taught, Gainsville Florida native.

Out of school Nathan originally wanted to become a mechanic but all that time around cars lead to an interest in automotive photography that Nathan hopes will evolve past a hobby and into something he can do professionally.

Until that happens Nathan can be found pointing his Sigma 70-300mmD equipped Nikon D3000 at cars all around his home town in Florida.

Chances are pretty good that at some point in my search for slammed truck inspiration I was looking at photos taken by today’s very talented, and several times published, featured photographer, Johnny O.

I've posted this truck a few times and I had no idea Johnny had shot this

Johnny is a ten year veteran of the automotive photography field and in that time has done most of his work in the print as a feature editor, and contributing photographer, for Tailgate Magazine and Street Trucks Magazine in addition to his aforementioned work for Sport Truck and Mini Truckin’.

Knowing that you don’t get as far as he has without an exceptional eye for location Johnny has become one of the best in the industry at finding new unique spots to shoot his subjects because often the difference between a great photo and an exceptional photo is location, location, location.

In addition to having an eye for spots working in the print industry for so long has also made Johnny an extremely efficient machine with the ability to crank out features at a lightning pace without sacrificing any quality of the final result.

Johnny’s got a trio of lenses (28-105mm, 17-40mm, 30-300mm) which he spins on and off his Canon 7D depending on the situation, and when the settings call for it he uses a Manfrotto tripod. Finally, his post processing tool of choice is Photoshop CS5.

David, who never really thought about getting into photography, started shooting photos as a way to generate original content for his automotive site Import Bible which is a combination of Alberta auto enthusiast content and unique automotive apparel.

Now a little over a year after he began David is hooked on capturing automotive imagery.

Everything about this photo is awesome but the composition really grabs me

David made the transition from casual shooter to employed photographer when a previous co worker asked him to take photos of exotics for a new project he was working on.

This arrangement worked out great for David because while he was getting paid to shoot cars he loved, he was also expanding his own professional portfolio.

When shooting his own projects David shoots with a Nikon D3000 and has an 18-55mm lens, 35mm 1.8F lens and a SB600 flash stored in his camera bag and when he shoots for his employer he still uses a Nikon but a D90 instead of his D3000.

Known as ‘Mikejoe’ in the Volkswagen scene, where he developed a love for low Beatles and Rabbits, Mr. McConnell’s initial photographic focus was German automobiles but since then his horizons have broadened to the point where he needed to move from Ontario to Calgary to swap cityscape for landscape.

Mike is a Canon shooter who currently uses the popular, reliable, and versatile 50d, and his camera bag is multiple lenses deep with glass ranging from 10mm to 300mm.

On location Mike likes to make his photos more dynamic with creative use of his auxiliary battery pack and strobes.

As a VW guy Mike had access to lots of great cars to shoot

Once the harsh Calgary winter passes Mike plans to shoot as much as he can in Calgary including their thriving car scene.

Since Mike’s flickr account is already full of lots of fantastic shots I really can’t wait to see what he can accomplish in his new location for 2011.

If  you look  closely at those photos you will notice that they all share a  similar water mark, and or photo credit: ‘Dougboy 2010‘.

Dougboy (not Doughboy) is the alias of self taught GTA based automotive photographer Edwin Tan and today’s featured photographer.

When I asked Edwin to share a little bit about himself he was quick to emphasize one thing. He is, and always will be, an automotive enthusiast and like many enthusiasts photography was just a natural progression of his passion for automobiles.

Picking up a camera two years ago Edwin honed his craft by reading a variety of online photography forums, speaking with other local photographers, and most importantly by snapping as many photographs as he possibly could.

My rich persons envy is kicking in again...

During this two year span Edwin has shot  variety of different subjects including: events, retail products, and food for small design firm called F.C.D.

While I have yet to see this in person I have seen a lot of it online

Edwin is a Nikon shooter always experimenting with different styles and techniques and often incorporates strobes and rigs into his shoots.

The quality of his work has made him the go to guy for a number of JDM enthusiasts in the area, as well as the official photographer for Option JDM.

Edwin is looking forward to expanding the variety of cars he shoots by offering his talents to the exotic crowd in the near future.

Ultimately Edwin would like to have the name ‘Dougboy‘ paired with clean cars and clean photography. I would say that he is already off to a great start.

Matt Berenz hails from the Durham region and rolls with The Scraped Crusaders, which means that he never has to look far for a clean dropped ride to shoot, but Matt talents are not restricted only to automotive photography.

His natural gift allows him to shoot a number of different subjects with ease and he is also very capable videographer as well.

Currently working as an apprentice plumber and bike mechanic Matt’s passion for photography was initially tapped after taking a small introductory photography course as part of a multimedia design program.

While Matt says that his goal is to one day do on location model photography, and automotive shoots for magazines, currently he is just enjoying taking as many pictures as possible of as many different things as possible.

Matt shoots with a Canon T2I and has 18-55mm IS, 50mm f/1.8, 75-300mm glass.

Lately photographers to feature have been few and far between, winter has a big part to do with this as motivation to shoot cars often goes out the window when the weather outside is consistently -15 degrees below zero and all the cars are covered in salt. Luckily while browsing the Union Auto Club Blog I stumbled across a talented photographer named Santiago Gomez.

Santiago got into photography in 2007 when he was 17 and combined his new found passion for photography with his existing passion for anything automotive. Originally starting with a Nikon D40 Santiago quickly learned that the person who holds the camera, and not the camera make great photos so he did something uncommon of a lot of budding photographers, once he had a firm grasp of the basics of camera set up such as exposure and aperture, he sold his Digital SLR and dropped back down to a point and shoot Canon G10.

Santiago shot a great deal of his favorite photos with this point and shoot and was so pleased with what he was able to accomplish with this camera that when it was time to get back into the DSLR game in 2009 he stuck with Canon and picked up a Canon Rebel T1i.

So far he has been shooting with kit equipment but he is using winter downtime to research which lenses to pick up this spring to further increase the already high quality of his work.

Having already made a lot of connections in the GTA automotive community Santiago’s future as an automotive photographer looks bright and I feel very privileged to showcase his work so far here on Stance Is Everything.

At just 17 years old Kristoff shows great promise as an automotive photographer as he has a strong passion for cars with dialed stance set ups and a great interest in photography. He is also not afraid to rack up some kms going out to local events. His work is a perfect fit for Stance Is Everything and we are proud to showcase it.

Jon getting down to business

This is going to be the first of what I hope is many photographer features here on Stance Is Everything. A lot  of car enthusiast pick up photography as a hobby after shooting enough pictures of there own cars cars. Unfortunately the don’t often get a chance to show of their non automotive photography.

These photo features will include automotive and non automotive photography. Hopefully these features inspire more car nuts to pick up a cam and start shooting.

Today’s feature is the work  of  an old friend of mine, Jon, we used to ride BMX together before he moved and since then we have continued to cross paths on a few automotive message boards and facebook.

Today via msn we had a chance to catch up and talked about Stance Is Everything and photography and that resulted in him sending a few of his more recent shots over. Enjoy.
