One of the most unnecessary arguments in the automotive community, in my opinion, is the static vs air debate.

I just don’t get it, people should get down how they want to get down and that should be the end of it.

Both setups have advantages and disadvantages and sure people on air can raise their car now and again to get over obstacles but is that worse than having an entirely different car to drive daily or turning your coils down at or before a show?

For this weeks Theme Tuesday I contacted the guys at Air Society for a little help hopefully getting a few static fans to at least appreciate what is over on the “dark side”.

Theme Tuesdays: Turbo Dodge

Ok Mopar fans you can ease up on the ~~hate~~ encouraging emails because I am finally doing the ‘turbo dodge’ Theme Tuesday many of you have requested.

While Dodge has a habit of turbo charging random vehicles their owners are generally not down to to put them on the ground.

After sifting through many fairly negatively toned threads about stance I was able to find a decent selection of lowered Mopar vehicles that came from the factory equipped with snails (with a few exceptions).

A few of you also helped out with emails as well.

So what these were/are really Mitsubishis? They were sold here under the Dodge platform so it wouldn’t be right not to include at least a couple

I once inquired about buying a turbo Daytona, it was sitting outside a local shop with the motor in the hatch. The owner said he would put it back in for two thousand dollars, I ended up with my e30 and that car was never fixed.

Theme Tuesdays: I Like Mine With No Shine – part 2

I have been wanting to revisit this theme since the first time I did it in August of 2010.

That post was made up of mostly black cars and with a couple cars switched out it could have easily passed for a ‘murdered out’ Theme Tuesday.

This go round I took a little more time picking out the cars to include and pulled together a wider variety of cars including modern, euro, and the cars mysteriously missing from the last post, classics.

Basically every form of flat other than natural patina (another future post) is here.

Modern

This car got infinitely more bad ass once it got wrapped

I guess not really all that modern but not quite a classic yet

Flat orange is pretty damn nice

Jon Sibal's Challenger is honestly one of my favorite cars right now

The real flames under that wrap are sick but this is 1000x better

Theme Tuesdays: VW Harlequin’s Part II

In trying to keep some variety in the Theme Tuesdays (and posts in general) I decided to keep the import and American Theme Tuesdays on the hard drive this week and do something else.

Originally the plan was to finalize the Type A Theme Tuesday but after stumbling across the first Harlequin in today’s post that was put on the back burner.

I never expected this theme to make it to a second round but I’m glad it did.

A lot of these are photos of the same car with different wheels but considering they were made in limited numbers I’ll take what I can.

Theme Tuesdays: CRXs

I am a little puzzled as to how I could have seriously gone so long without doing CRX Theme Tuesday considering I have already done Accords, Wagonvans, and Preludes.

Seems like it would have been an obvious choice considering a friend of mine had a sick green one for awhile, must have just slipped my mind.

Theme Tuesdays: Mazda 3s Part 2

It’s been awhile since Mazda 3s have been the subject of a Theme Tuesday. The last one for the naturally aspirated 3s was in September 2009 and the boosted Speed3s last got their time in the spotlight July of 2010.

Since then a lot has changed in the land of Mazda 3s.

A whole new generation was released with a lot of people jumping ship to the happier generation and those who have stayed with the first gens are pushing the limits in regards to ride height and aggressive fitments.

If only they didn’t rust…

From the same group this three has custom widened front and rear flares but the side profile is my preferred view

My friend actually had this photo blown up for me and it is now mounted in my office

Theme Tuesdays: Favourite Shots of 2011

I had another theme ready to go today until I realized that this was the last Tuesday of the year and I should do something ‘special’ for the occasion.

Going to events and shooting features for a year adds up to a large number of photos and since I have never really brought together my personal favourites before I figured that was enough of a theme to go with for today.

These shots are in no particular order.

No matter how often I see it and shoot hop contests I will always be a sucker for a shot like this.

There is always so much worth capturing in the moment; the focus in the eyes of the judge, the detailed under carriage, and the captivated crowd.

Event Coverage: Parking Lot Pimpin’ 3

I had to wait for the sea of people to part around this car at the ‘Stakes Is High’ Stretch and Poke meet because I wanted to try and capture a photo similar to this one.

I wish I shot this photo in raw so I could have lightened up the diffuser and muffler area a little more, oh well.

Event Coverage: S&P June 19th 2011: Part 2

On set-up night of Importfest 2011 Liberty VIP rolled in a little late and once they got into the lobby Brett wasted no time getting his car ready.

Since he was ready before everyone else I decided to take some photos of his car knowing I wouldn’t be able to replicate this shot the day after.

I think I spotted it as his signature on Stance Works too which is cool.

Event Coverage: Importfest 2011 Part:1

The Scraped Crusaders live up to their name, and this photo is actually the second time I captured this fact with my camera.

Luckily I happened to be heading back to my car when they were moving their cars from the parking lot to a more visible area kicking up dust and pushing rocks the entire way.

Event Coverage: CSCS 2011 Round II: Part 1

Two miracles in this shot; the first is the remarkable fact that a CSCS Drag racing was running perfect all day with no rain delays, and the second is that I managed to get an in focus pan shot of this car which was really moving down the strip.

Next year I need to remember to bring my tripod along for panning shots.

The only thing better than capturing a Skyline about to go on the track is capturing on on the track.

Even though I failed to get this one on the track I still like this photo.

There is always next year to see it run anyway.

Event Coverage CSCS 2011: Round III Pt 2

I didn’t attend as many Street Classics events as I did previously but the ones I did show up to all had great turnouts.

To me this photo really captures all of the great parts of a Street Classics Cruise in.

Including a sea of vehicles built before auto makers started catering more towards ‘appliance’ cars.

The only thing this photo doesn’t have is 50s music.

Event Coverage: Street Classics July 9th 2011

Anthony had a pretty good 2011 season picking up a new sponsor and driving fairly consistently at all of the events I saw him compete in.

This shot was taken during the demo where he was showing off a little bit (hence the arm out the window) and I like it mostly for the same reasons I like the Mustang panning shot from up above, things that should be in focus are more or less in focus.

Dan has one of the most recognizable s2000s in the GTA and this year his car has rightfully received a ton of love online.

This ants eye view angle really captures how low the car really is.

I’ve never seen his lip look anything but pristine either.

Favorite Feature Photos

Prior to shooting Matt’s car I had never done any of the feature photography on the site.

My girlfriend (who is still a far, far, better photographer than I am) convinced me to get out and start doing some of the features myself and helped me out with Matt’s shoot.

When I got home I was pretty happy with most of the shots.

Featured Ride: Matt’s 2001 S2000

There are actually two buildings in this location and of the two this is not the one I had planned on using. However the shots in front of the other building were just not working out as much as I’d hoped.

So I shot in front of this building instead and was able to get a few photos that worked better including this one.

There was a bum sleeping inside of the other building anyway.

Featured Ride: Richie’s SLK 350

Mina’s car is pretty photogenic so it wasn’t really hard to get a lot of good shots of it. The hardest part came later when I was editing the photos because J’s Racing Teal turned out to be a hard colour to capture accurately.

I scouted this location before hand and this was one of the photos I had in my mental shot list, very happy with how it turned out.

Theme Tuesdays: Classic American Trucks

I’ve been posting the odd classic truck (50s to early/mid 80s) both here and on the fan page for the past few months but for whatever reason I have never really posted them in mass.

Today is the the day I change that.

Quite a few of these trucks are fat fender Chevys or squared up C-10s but don’t take that as a sign of me being a Chevy over Ford guy.

I just happened to be searching for a particular Chevy when I came across most of these pics.

Yep, that is how I am starting this one.

Looks like that bumper takes care of any debris that might be in the way

Theme Tuesdays: Subaru Clearance Sale Part II

Is it a coincidence that the Subarus I am posting today are essentially the complete opposite of the one I posted yesterday? Kind of.

Last night after watching the Leafs game I didn’t feel much like finishing up some of the more obscure Theme Tuesday ideas I have in the works (ps3 was calling) so I decided to liberate some of the Subarus I’ve had saved for a while.

I seem to always have an overabundance of Subarus on my hard drive anyway.

Theme Tuesdays: Widebody American

When the subject of wide bodies comes up in the circles I travel in people rarely ever mention American examples.

Probably because euro and JDM widebody builds are much easier to find online, at shows, and on the track, but if you look hard enough American builds are plentiful.

Several of them dating back to when fuel efficiency wasn’t considered and there was no replacement for displacement.

I might have colored a little outside the lines of ‘stance’ with this post but what is wrong with a little function now and again? Also I would love to see a few more pro touring styled cars on the road.

Theme Tuesdays: Wagovans

Do you think when Honda designed the Wagovan they expected it to be as popular as they are now?

Maybe popular isn’t the right word but they certainly have amassed a dedicated group of followers.

To be honest I never saw much potential in the Wagovan until sometime early 2000 when the second to last one in today’s post came along and opened my eyes to what could be with this unique, incredibly boxy, vehicle.

Theme Tuesdays: Vette Wheels

Today’s Theme Tuesday is a direct result of a suggestion from the fanpage, if you ever have something you want to see don’t be scared to throw out an idea.

I usually get started right away so I don’t forget.

The use of Vette wheels seems to have slowed down some from late 2009 and 2010 but they still mange to show up in some of the darnedest places.

I actually wouldn’t be too surprised if someone told me that saw blades and salad shooters were more popular outside of the Corvette community than within.

I feel quite terrible for helping my friend sell his Sabbaru seeing ones like this

Theme Tuesdays: Duallys/Dualies

Of all the lowered/dropped/slammed/sparking vehicles I have shown people not into ‘the scene’ the two that provoke the most reaction are vans and duallys.

With Vans people just can’t wrap their heads around why someone bothered to modify a family hauler and with duallys they scream bloody murder that the truck is now useless.

The funny thing is 90% of these people couldn’t put a dually to better use themselves so I am not sure what the big deal is, these things look great on the floor.

Theme Tuesdays: Classy Car Models Part 4

At the last round of CSCS Danny from Street Concepts was wearing a T-shirt that said “Say No To Recession Models” in addition to making me laugh this shirt made me realize it’s been awhile since I have done a ‘Classy Car Model’ Theme Tuesday.

As always pulling together this group took quite sometime because the trend for most car models (specifically import) is still to wear as little clothes as possible so everyone can see your high points and your low points.

This post is 99% cottage cheese free.

Theme Tuesdays: Best of the Fast & Furious

So my friend Josh is to ~~thank~~ blame for today’s Theme Tuesday. I actually had a different one 90% complete then we got talking about the Fast and The Furious franchise and next thing you know I am spending my lunch hour collecting images of the cars I liked from all of the movies.

This list is probably a little different than Josh thought it would turn out because my ‘classic American cars are awesome’ bias is clearly showing for a good portion of this post.

When I saw this truck in the trailer of Fast and Furious I was immediately more interested

These 80s crew cabs were not all movie magic just makes them even more amazing

502 big blocks under the hood apparently gave these the ability to "drift like a Nissan Z car"

The F-bomb replicas were also pretty cool

But when you are replicating perfection it's hard to go wrong

You had to know I wouldn't end this with any other car.
