WTF Friday: The Tachyon Mini Cooper

0

While browsing The Amazo Effect a few weeks back I came across the ‘Tachyon Mini Cooper’. The what you say?

Well the Tachyon Mini Cooper is a proper generation (read: small and nimble) Mini Cooper body drapped over a tube frame chassis that houses a Porsche 944 motor crafted by Tachyon Performance .

944_mini_1

944_mini_7

Looking for more info on the car has thus far only lead me in circles, but judging by the photos below the car does seem to still be some sort of a work in progress rather than a one off shock and awe project.

944_mini_4

944_mini_3

944_mini_2

While the 944 wasn’t exactly the most coveted Porsche in the world take it’s 217bhp motor out of it’s native home and plunk it in something much smaller you’ve got a decent recipe for a car that will throw you back in your seat and send passengers reaching for the holy shit handles.

944_mini_5

944_mini_6

944_mini_8

There’s no video of this car that I can find, but if any of you have more info you certainly know where to send it.

Until then I’ll just imagine how ridiculous this car must be.

Event Coverage: Importfest 2014 Toronto – Pt. 1

1

Every scene has a car show that ultimately influences enthusiasts in the area and for many of us in Toronto Importfest is that show. Importfest is loud, busy, extravagant, and quite literally the ‘biggest and baddest’ in the area.

On show day (interspersed between model photos) browsing the #importfest hash tag, on whichever social media forum you prefer reveals, confessions of those who simply can’t believe they made it into the show and others who want nothing more than to have their car on the Metro Toronto Convention Centre floor next year.

For competitors the weeks (or sometimes even months) leading up to ‘ifest’ are a mad scramble to cross the t’s and dot the i’s, and it’s not uncommon for members of the show field to be seen walking the show isles in a zombie like state, occasionally conversing with other competitors about how little sleep they had the night before.

For accredited and uncredited media alike we scramble like ants trying to capture as much of the show as we can. Previously I’ve attempted to capture Importfest alone but this year Drake and myself took on the show together and between the two of us we’ve got over 150+ photos that will be making their way to site in parts over the next few days.

Today’s coverage is just a start and more should be up Saturday.

Depth Of Field

Usually the Importfest field has an air of familiarity to it, but this year it seemed as though there were a lot of cars I either had not seen in a while or just plain had never seen before and the field of competitors ranged from drift cars to Jeeps and back again.

Honda Power

Hondas have always taken a bad rap in the show scene as predominantly catering to the all show and no go crowd but this year’s Importfest showcased more than a few cars that had the power to back up their looks.

Rocket Bunnies

The thrust propelled small mammal influenced designs by Tra kyoto have hit in spades this year with Canada’s first Scion TC, Mazda RX-7, and GTR models being unveiled at Importfest 2014. Love it or hate these kits are certainly not going anywhere any time soon.

Event Coverage: 4th Annual Majestics Toronto BBQ

2

Long time readers know that the lowrider BBQ hosted by the Toronto chapter of the Majestics car club is must attend event on my yearly list, so when I learned it was scheduled the same day as Importfest I knew I had to do the two place at one time routine and get coverage for both.

Fortunately for me Importfest is twelve hours long, and Humber Valley East park is on the way so I was able to attend both, and this year contributing photographer Chris Johnston came to the check out the show for the first time as well as Gil and Dave from the Scraped Crusaders.

Since Chris and myself had to cut out a little early I didn’t get any of the hopping on film but, there’s a hop contest at the Reunited Car Show August 24th so hopefully I can get my fill there.

Today Drake and I continue our overage of the July 20th CSCS event with the ‘stationary’ set of photos. Though it seems every event I spend more and more time looking through the infield I always manage to miss one or two vehicles I straight up shouldn’t.

After not being able to personally attend the last two rounds of the Canadian Sport Compact Series I was really looking forward to a long over due day at Toronto Motorsports Park Cayuga this past Sunday.

In addition to all of the usual awesome that comes with CSCS –that is the time attack, drag racing, drifting, and show and shine– I got the chance to catch up with a few of the friends I only get to see track side, as well as meet a few more readers of the site.

The weather issues that plagued the Grand Bend event were not even remotely a factory this time around so both Drake and I had our shutters going all day to bring back some great coverage.

As usual I’ve split the coverage up between track and stationary content and today we take a look at what was going down on the road course.

Theme Tuesdays: Non Typical Hot Rods

I’ve done uncommon low, and uncommon low riders so the only natural progression of the oddball Theme Tuesday series is less than typical Hot Rods.

It’s pretty cool to see the hot rod aesthetic applied to such a wide range of vehicles. In some cases in might look a little weird but in most it’s actually quite awesome.

Higher Learning: Petey’s EF

0

There’s no doubt in my mind that everyone of you fortunate enough to have a car in high school remember it fondly. For most of us in addition to holding countless memories and stories –many of which are not appropriate to share here– that car was the stepping stone into the car scene at large and the beginning of a much larger journey.

Petey was lucky enough to have had two cars in high school, one he drove to hell and back, and the one featured today that from first acquisition was destined to become his family built pride and joy.

1991-civic-ef-ssr-defi-fins-14

1991-civic-ef-ssr-defi-fins-4

Early Civics, particularly EFs, have always been held in high regard as timeless fun to drive car that responds incredibly well to modification. Unfortunately it is also a chassis that reacts incredibly poorly to winter climates, particularly those that necessitate the use of copious amounts of salt.

This car may not have seen a lot of use during Petey’s high school years but it did need a generous amount of bodywork before it could be considered a viable base for a proper build.

1991-civic-ef-ssr-defi-fins-2

1991-civic-ef-ssr-defi-fins-13

1991-civic-ef-ssr-defi-fins-3

Conveniently when Petey was ready to give his EF an overhaul he was employed at TNT Auto body in Brampton, and with the help of co-worker Wayne the rockers and quarters on this car were painstakingly restored.

During that restoration process the North American front end was replaced an EF9 front clip complete with extremely rare factory round OEM Stanley fog lights, icing the cake up front is an authentic Chargspeed lip.

1991-civic-ef-ssr-defi-fins-10

The block of the b16 motor that sits under hood has been painted black and adorned with a polished intake manifold, and polished valve cover. Giving it a little more pep is an Apexi world sport class 2 full exhaust.

With help from his friend Orlando, Petey tucked the wiring harness away and his dad gave him the assist on the brake line tuck and booster delete.

When the motor was out the engine bay was painted deep purple to contrast the car’s new grey exterior.

1991-civic-ef-ssr-defi-fins5

1991-civic-ef-ssr-defi-fins-11

For shoes this car wears extremely rare SSR DEFI fin wheels that have been beautifully refurbished to 16×8 and 16×9.5 sizing.

The step lips and unique centre caps give these wheels a truly one of a kind, period correct, look that works really well with the restrained exterior aesthetic Petey has created.

1991-civic-ef-ssr-defi-fins-6
1991-civic-ef-ssr-defi-fins-1

The stance –which was made reality thanks to a Droptec modified set of Skunk2 coilovers and equally modified lower control arm bushings– is of course on point and netted him some hardware at the 2014 Fitted Lifestyle Toronto event.

1991-civic-ef-ssr-defi-fins-9

Inside, Petey’s car has been upgraded using only the finest of Honda OEM parts; red leather seats from an s2000 compliment the Type R carpet and join the s2000 gauge cluster from JDM addiction.

The electronic cluster is the perfect bit of tech to go with the E9 power window conversion Petey also performed.

1991-civic-ef-ssr-defi-fins-7

1991-civic-ef-ssr-defi-fins-8

Not wanting to leave his audio set-up trapped in the late 80’s Petey’s new audio system is powered by Windows 7 and has some thump thanks to a floor mounted 12″ Audiobass sub.

1991-civic-ef-ssr-defi-fins-12

True of all the other cars that fly the Elevated banner (a crew which as supported Petey since day one) Petey has taken his car to the next level and it’s been a pleasure to be able to showcase it here on Stance Is Everything.

1991-civic-ef-ssr-defi-fins-15

Petey’s Thanks: Garage 16, TNT Autobody, Droptec, JDM addiction, ROG, his pops, and the Elevated Crew.

Event Coverage: CSCS Beach Burnout 2014 – Pt. 1

0

Today we pick right back up where we left off Monday with Drake’s 2014 CSCS Beach Burnout coverage.

The weather held out for drift practice and early qualifiers but unfortunately come later in the day the heavens opened up and ultimately brought the event to an earlier close than anyone would have liked.

It’s always a bit of a shame when rain draws things to a close and I can’t help but always feel bad for event organizers who have to put up with the wild mood swings of mother nature, after jumping all the other hurdles necessary to put on an event this size.

Unfortunately the weather is just one of those things we will never be able to control, the good news is Drake got some great photos before having to retreat to his Miata for shelter.

While I am sad to see that go he certainly looks right at home in the Subaru

Rumour has it (pretty good rumour) that this car should be running on V8 power really soon, currently an SR20 lives under hood

Drake managed to grab thus awesome shot of Cody Lougheed

Dylan can always be counted on to lay down a smoke screen

It looks like all the bugs have been worked out of his build this year

Dylan VS Riley is always one of my series favourite battles so we will end things here…

WTF Friday: It’s a Van Thing You Wouldn’t Understand

0

Two weeks ago while at Classics In The Square Rob from Performance Improvements suggested I take a close look at two vans parked approximately fifteen feet away from their booth.

From a distance neither van looked particularly noteworthy but he assured me they would be worth the look and he was right because I was instantly blown away at the craftsmanship, attention to detail, and sheer ridiculousness of their interiors.

I’ve seen a few custom vans in my time but never any quite as extensive as these two, which look like they just rolled out of those vehicle preserving air filled bubbles.

The first van (a Dodge I believe) was done up completely dungeon style:

The exterior didn’t hint at the interior looking like this

It almost looks as though the builder bought out a Halloween prop shop

Hide your daughters

If I were to put a mental picture to the person who did the van above I would assume he is someone that dresses in all black, has long black hair, and probably black nail polish.

If I were to put a mental picture to the person who did the van below I would lean towards a heavier set gentleman who enjoys a scotch and a pipe.

There’s literally so much going on here it’s hard to take in at once

Yes, that is a fire place, yes that is a light fixture from the ceiling, and yes that is a mirror over the bed.

And just in case you were wondering yes this van had everything including the kitchen sink

The rest of the Classics In the Square coverage should be up sometime next week, and I promise there are no more vans.
