Theme Tuesdays: Dat Ass – Pt. 4

3

March might be Theme Tuesday greatest hits month as I’m bringing back the ‘dat assTheme Tuesday for another go round, thanks to a throwback track I heard on my way home from work.

The last post was three years ago so I guess it is time.

In my latest office clean up I seem to have cleansed my list of future Theme Tuesday ideas so throw some at me in the comments.

Event Coverage: The 2015 Detroit Autorama

2

It only took one trip for Detroit Autorama to obtain permanent residence in my favorite shows of all time list, and calling it one of the best all around events in North America is probably selling it a bit short.

As soon as I knew I wasn’t going to be able to make this awesome event for a second year in a row, I reached out to Jason Langley of Bacon Media / Detroit Style Photography for some coverage.

He came back with a whopping 300+ photos, of which I pulled sixty or so to post today.

Yeah Trucks!

The level in which the trucks at Autorama are built is second to none. Every style from your traditional mini, to re-imagined classics is worth a second or even sometimes third look to capture all the details.

Autorama Extreme

Also known as ‘the basement’ this part of the show would be an awesome stand alone event of its own. Heck some people never leave this area the whole weekend and looking at the rides can you really blame them?

WTF Friday: What Has Been Seen Cannot Be Unseen

2

I get that drift missiles are a bit of a ‘thing’ right now (to the chagrin of many) but I think even the most carefree of missile pilots would see this car as a little ridiculous.

Aside from the turbo LS swap, which is in god knows what shape, very little on this car appears to be salvageable or mechanically sound.

whathasbeenseen1
Alignments make sense. Everyone should get one, but that is where logical sense ends in this collection of photos

whathasbeenseen6

whathasbeenseen4
Turbo LS: good! Execution: haphazard. The sliced rad support and generous use of zip ties does not really instill confidence in the final product.
whathasbeenseen5
Curious choice of wire routing is curious
whathasbeenseen3
If you start from the front and work your way back things get progressively more puzzling. I imagine there is quite the story about the rocker panel
whathasbeenseen2
After all that fiberglass work… it still doesn’t tuck rim?

I know I usually say LS in everything but perhaps not in this thing

Spotted in the ‘You’re Doing It Wrong‘ Zilvia thread which totally justifies the ever-increasing price of clean S chassis.

Theme Tuesdays: Street Car Livery

0

A couple weeks ago Gill from The Scraped Crusaders posted a rendering on Facebook and captioned it “I hope full liveries become a thing in Toronto”.

That comment instantly got the gears going in my head to dedicate a Theme Tuesday to street plated cars that have either slight, or full blown, race car livery.

While I’m not going to predict liveries as a trend for 2015, I wouldn’t be surprised if more than a few cars roll out this year with detailed race motifs.

I’ve always been a fan of this FB, I don’t see it near enough
Magnus Walker’s 277 is a perfect example of a heavily driven, livery covered, street car
The Speedhunters Scion Tuner Challenge car simply screams Trans Am racer at every angle
Rounding out the SEMA picks is this Tic Tac E36
This is a bit of a cheat because this is a competing time attack car
But it is also plated which means it can be included here

This car has sadly been wrecked since, but was one of the first cars I saw with some livery on-line, this was inspired by a Dodge truck if I’m not mistaken
street-livery-2
Kanjo racers might be a bit of an opposite cheat as I’m not sure they are technically street legal…

Ultra Box 2002

2

The first time I spotted this car it was via cell phone photos embedded in a comment thread over on SpeedHunters. Instantly spawning a sub conversation of its own myself and many others were hungry to see more.

Not wanting to do this car the disservice of a two photo post I waited until a few photos of the interior and motor popped up before posting it here.

ultrabox-2002-1 ultrabox-2002-2

Patience turned out to be the key because Focus Geek and Yama-Channel spent a significant amount of time shooting this car at Osaka Auto Messe, and as expected it’s a through build from bumper to bumper.

From the dash to the seats it is very tastefully done and isn’t modern in the sense that it ruins the cars vintage vibe

If you want to see more photos of this car they can be found on Focus Photography, Yama-channel , and the Ultra Box website and Facebook page.

Fat And Flush: Redrum

0

Another s2000 for the ‘category Dave keeps saying he will update more often but never does’. This one hails out of Australia and after spotting it on JDMrides.ca, I was able to track down its original source of Oh Fuck It’s Monday (amazing blog name).

Flared fenders, Amuse front bumper, Mugen hard top, Volk Racing RE30 wheels, BC coils and the all important 235/40 and 255/40 Federal RSRs enable this car to strike the perfect balance function and form.

Winter Wednesdays: Abominable Snowman

This local car owned by @hemans4 popped up in my instagram feed thanks to Fitted Lifestyle and I knew it would be perfect for this week’s Winter Wednesday.

Not quite sure the wheels, but the specs are 18×10.5 with 225/35 all around et10 up front and -5 in the rear.

Theme Tuesdays: Lettin’ The Sparks Fly: Part 4

Drew a blank this week thinking of a new theme, so I’m falling back to familiar territory with part 4 of the ‘Lettin’ The Sparks Fly‘ series.

Equipped Photography’s Import Face Off Aftermeet

This very wide 2012 STI is the shop car of Florida’s own Elite Force Motorsports. In addition to the body work, suspension and CCWS it’s got a built motor and a GTX3082R snail.

The overall look of the car is pretty unique, and perhaps not for everyone, but it fits right in with 2015’s trend of up-sizing literally everything.

WTF Friday: Nok, Nok. Who’s There?

6

Next do the Swift Car Club Nokturnal has some of the weirdest vehicular creations to ever dominate the points based car show scene.

I’ve yet to come across any car with a Nokturunal banner that has been ‘par for the course’ so to speak, and one modification ‘Nok seems particularly fond of is putting Rolls Royce front ends on everything.

The first example of this was a RR clipped Monte Carlo spotted in 2012 at CSCS event in 2012, then again later at Importfest that same year.

In an effort out do themselves they recently did a similar front end swap to a Scion XB creating what they are calling the ‘Nok XB’.

nokturnal2

This conversion flows perhaps slightly better looking than the Monte Carlo above, and if nothing else seems to be executed better as this time around the fenders and bumper are separate units.

nokturnal3

nokturnal1

The interior follows suit with the colour scheme, save for the steering wheel, buy I can’t help but wonder how uncomfortable those seats probably are.

nokturnal5

nokturnal4

All in all points for effort, as the work appears to be of decent quality, but aesthetically it’s a swing and a miss for me. You?
