Theme Tuesdays: Honda Preludes

10

From the perspective of someone who doesn’t live and breath Honda it the Preludes seems like the black sheep of the community when compared to Civics, CRXs, and even Accords. At shows and events there numbers are always fairly small.

I don’t think the Prelude is an unattractive car at all and with the right touch all generations can be done up tastefully. I think if Honda made them in a FR configuration more people would mess with them today instead of just plucking their motors and moving on.

Old's cool more so with K-1s
Perhaps one of the most popular Preludes online currently
Lookin' like an axe murder lurking in the woods
Wet n' Black
Does Master P say much of anything anymore?
Same car as above but previous wheel setup
Found this in a for sale thread, so the dude in the pic may or may not still own it
I pass a Prelude with this Greddy lip every day on my way to work but it looks nothing like this
Not every car can pull of the chrome RPF1s but this car does it well
Super clean
Angles like these really make the Prelude seem like it should be a rwd sports coupe
Simplicity at it's best
LM's

Event Coverage: Parking Lot Pimpin’ 3

5

Since I was young I’ve always had an interest in the Lowrider culture, and while it’s tough to say who exactly started this stance business I think it’s safe to assume that Lowrider guys are some of the true OGs.

When I found out this event was taking place minutes from my house deciding whether or not to attend was a no-brainer, especially because for the longest time my only exposure to cars like these was through television and music.

If you’ve never been to a Lowrider show and there is one near you be sure to pass through and take a look at the cars, with a lot of the builds the quality is through the roof.

Bikes

I wasn’t expecting to see any bikes at the show so I was pleasantly surprised by the ones I did see, all of them looked like awesome. I think this winter I might spend a bit more time on motorcycle blogs so I can do a better job of identifying what I see.

Once again wishing I knew a bit more about bikes
This marks the second time I have seen a woman on a custom bike
There were crowd around this bike most of the day
So I bet your wondering what's going on up near the front tire?
Well this is what was going on...

Non Lowriders

Most of the cars at the show were lowriders but there were a couple different cars out as well. Minitruck guys you let me down though, I thought a lot of you would come out 😛

If you asked me what to expect to see at PP3 a Skyline would have been at the bottom of my list
I was honestly surprised that this was the only mini at the show, but I had not seen it before so it's all good
Livin' the life
This Donk was blasting tons of bass, but that's not what caught my eye
Donk's stretch? I had no idea
Fitting this car was there being ae86 day after all
This car pulled up and a crowd gathered instantly
From what I overheard the grill shell and body are all 30s Ford and the rest is custom
It's on air if you are curious

Lowriders

All of the local Lowrider clubs came out to show support, Majestics, Affiliated, Rydaz 4 Life, Rollerz Only, Luxurious and the True Playaz

Affiliated
The bicycles at the show were not just accessories but custom builds themselves
True Playaz, the hosts of this shindig
Being a family event seeing kids in and around the cars wasn't surprising
I swear to god I saw this car in a snowstorm once
Joe from Rollerz Only is one of the first people to ever give me a media pass for an event, good peoples
This Cadillac is simply bad ass
I'm actually impressed the owner managed to used up that huge trunk
This car has still got the biggest continental kit I've ever seen
Steve told me I had to check out this wagon
So I did a walk around the car...
and saw the four pumps and multiple batteries and figured we would see it hop...
but instead he just cruised the parking lot up on three
This Impala could appear in the dictionary next to the definition lowrider
This Gold 65 Impala is incredible, that pin stripe is gold leaf
Or Pimpala rather
I love gooooooooooold
Black '63 from the Empire State
Gorgeous engine bay on this car, would be right at home in a custom too
Ass end as nice as the front
The amount of work in the paint on some of these cars was astounding

Big Dave’s Caddy

This car was all about the details. So much in fact that I spent so much time looking at the artwork all over (literally all over) this car that I didn’t take a single picture of it as a whole, something that has never happened before.

Luckily I was able to find a picture of the car on the Luxurious Montreal page
The art on the rad support jumps out at you but check out the engraving on the motor
Engraving continues
I wouldn't even know where to look to get this type of work done
If prior to looking at this car you were not scared of clowns you might be after
Evil clown hidden under what looked to be miles of clear
Can't sleep clown will eat me...

Hop Contest

Ever want to see a kids eyes light up? Take them to a lowrider hop contest.

Lyndsey and I met up with my friend Steve who brought his nephew along and to say he was excited to see the cars hop would have be a serious understatement.

It was disappointing to see this car break as it's always a good performer but it happens
Joe getting his big Caddy in the air
This car was getting right up there
The abuse these things have to withstand is crazy to think about
Money green Monte Carlo flexin'
Customary three wheel on the way out

That’s it for Parkin’ Lot Pimpin 3, shout out to Alvaro Puro Cervantes for putting me onto this event. Keep checking the fan page for quick videos of the hop contest.

WTF Friday: Big Bertha

9

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted something questionable/’too each their own’ looking in a WTF Friday post so here is an… interesting truck I came across on s10 forum.

I’m fairly sure the owner of this truck would vomit at the cars I normally post here as it is quite obvious the thought patterns of he or she and myself when it comes to car modifications do not come anywhere close to matching up.

It’s not my place to tell someone how to modify their vehicle but I am curious how much it would cost to put tires all around on this beast.  o_0

There is quite a bit going on here so be sure to get a good look and take it all in
I'm curious if given to option which a cop would pull over a dumped car or a jacked tandem? Tandem would go free I bet.
Did you expect any other sort of mudflaps?

Site Updates

I’ll be hitting up the True Playaz Lowrider BBQ here in Mississauga Saturday and I am really looking forward to it as its been awhile since I have been to a gathering of traditionally done up low lows.

Aside from that I’ve got a couple things in the works but one thing I have to get started on is some new sticker designs in time for Importfest.

I just called myself out on that though so maybe it will help?

Flashback Friday

Since I will probably be seeing some of the same cars from Scrape 2009 tomorrow here is a whip back to that coverage.

Hmmm three wheel Theme Tuesday one day?

I think maybe I’ll listen to some West Coast Hip Hop this weekend…

I want a Versa

15

If you asked me this morning if I would type those words my answer would have been no but Dominic of Dominant Engineering, who is also the owner of the Ford Focus SVT I featured awhile back, sent me an email this afternoon that changed my tune.

In two days Dom took his girlfriends Versa from stock to this, including fixing the cracked and curbed wheels.

This was also his first air ride install… work f*ckin’ done.

More on this car and another car Dom has had his hand in soon.

Import Bible

David over at Import Bible has been on his grind and is currently in his fifth year of designing and producing shirts independently. To celebrate this respectable feat he has released his series 5 T shirts.

As a show of support and Canadian brotherly love David sent me a shirt, lanyard, and a couple stickers from his latest line.  My wardrobe is mostly made up of BMX shirts and stuff from 80stees.com so getting some automotive apparel into the mix was long over due.

I received the  ‘All Time‘ shirt which is a design inspired by 10 Deep (one of David’s favorite brands). The subject matter of the shirt obviously suits me pretty well as I clearly like my cars low and when it arrived I was immediately impressed with the quality of shirt, print, and design.

It’s something that can easily work it’s way into my everyday wear and not just something for automotive events.

The lanyard he sent along with the shirt is also pretty slick. Not only does it pay homage to some of histories greatest wheel designs it also conveniently does a good job of matching the color I picked for the center of my Equips.

I’ve got a couple of lanyards kicking around the house and this one is the best looking in my collection so far and the only  one to have a nice quality clasp for the key ring.

You will definitely see this hanging out of my pocket at local events.

Dave and I have already been in early talks about collaboration for late 2011 which I am really looking forward to and he recently launched the IFEST clothing line which is the collaboration between him and the Import Fest brand.

Always good to see fellow Canadian enthusiasts doing big things!

If you want to check out Import Bibles latest designs head over to ImportBible.com.

Of all the oem wheel catalogs out there I think BMW probably has (or maybe had?) the best selection. A good number of their wheels look great and come in sizing that makes them versatile enough to make there way from one model BMW to another as well as cars outside of the BMW umbrella.

To this day M Parallels are one of my favorite wheels and style 5’s are legendary but I’ve obviously been sleeping on style 19s because this e36 I found on v2lab looks simply stunning.

The fact that BBS makes a lot of BMWs oem wheels doesn't hurt...
Clean paint, clean, stance, clean fenders, win
Wheels tuck up super well
Simply one clean ass lookin' coupe

Spotted on the V2Lab Forums and blog, I think the owner is part of Royal Origin so what’s up to them also.

Theme Tuesdays: Lettin’ the sparks fly

8

One of the hardest things I have ever tried to do is explain to friends and co workers who are not really into cars is why exactly I, and people like me, enjoy seeing a low vehicle leave a trail of sparks in it’s wake while traveling at high speed.

Of course to a lot of rational people this act is counter productive and downright dangerous and that’s probably why I like it.

Life is short right?

Perhaps one of the most famous dragging pics around
I figure there would be hell to pay if I left out Rusty
Been awhile since I have checked what's up with the slamburglars
Another from the first pictures with attitude Theme Tuesday
I like a lot of what's going on with this truck, sparks are just a bonus
It's been awhile since I have been in a truck while dragging, someone take me for a cruise
In a perfect world this would have eventually been me
Rob's Burban from the last readers rides
Heaven?
Beautiful.
O.G. Lowrider family laying it down
Lower quality pic than I would normally run but god damn
I need more lowrider meets in my life, should be fixing that soon
Another angle still dope
Benz shootin
End things off with the photo that inspired this, my friend Matt dragging his Ranger

I am in desperate need of more pics of cars/trucks throwing sparks so if you know where I can find them let me know 🙂

Featured Ride: Tim’s Wrx

8

Normally the features on this site are written in more of a magazine style tone and not the same personal  tone the rest of the posts are written in, however in regards to this car and it’s owner I felt a more personal approach was justified.

In the short time I have known Tim (the owner and builder of today’s Subaru) I have come to learn a few things about him.

He’s a talented do it yourself mechanic, a Batman fanatic, a proud father, and one heck of a nice guy.

The first time I saw Tim’s car was at the 2009 Tuners Against Street Racing Charity Show and Shine where it’s unique finish made it stand out instantly from the rest of the cars at the show.

While I had seen a few cars with similar paint applications prior to Tim’s none of them looked quite like his, it’s actually smoother than you would expect and applied so well that I was shocked to learn it came from a spray can.

It also shimmers ever so slightly in the right light and isn’t being used to hide atrocious body work, Tim painted the car this way because he wanted the car to have a sinister look reminiscent of The Tumbler and not because he was looking to cut corners.

In 2009 the car was plated  ‘BRCE WANE‘ and it was actually the custom plates that helped me identify him because he was close by the car wearing a Batman shirt. As I was clearly gawking at this point I took a second  to introduce myself and let him know how much I liked his car.

During that first conversation I could instantly tell he was the kind of car guy everyone likes to meet: humble, knowledgeable, down to earth, and most important of all, friendly.

Tim isn’t overly concerned with any of the politics behind car shows, awards, or internet fame, he simply has a passion for automobiles that he likes to share with other enthusiasts. This passion is  immediately apparent if you have ever read one of his build threads on NASIOC.

You see Tim isn’t the type of person to outsource a single thing on his car without knowing exactly what needs to be done and how it is supposed to be done and he isn’t afraid to learn by doing and document his experiences for others to learn from.

In fact before installing the 9-piece WRC wide body kit from Fourstar Motorsports that is currently on the car Tim came  incredibly close to completing the daunting task of designing and fabricating a wide body kit in his garage from scratch.

While that feat is incredible in it’s own right it isn’t anywhere near the end of custom modification Tim  has done to his Subaru.

Under the hood of this car is further example his fabrication skills. You may have already noticed from the photo above that the engine bay looks incredibly clean and uncluttered.

This is because in addition to removing components deemed unnecessary and performing a wire tuck Tim fabricated completely removable fiberglass covers for both sides of the engine bay.

The end result of what was essentially a winter long project is simply stunning engine compartment.

The only way to truly compliment the unique exterior of this car was with an equally unique interior and for that Tim chose to wrap his seats in ‘autumn’ colored Katzkin leather.

This burnt orange color is hard to accurately capture in  photographs but in my opinion (and obviously Tims) it’s the perfect color to contrast the  dark exterior and also does  an excellent job of tying in his recently finished classic truck bed inspired  trunk setup.

While I could easily continue to go on and on about how much I love this car and respect the amount of work the owner has put into it I feel the best way to really  appreciate this car without seeing it in person isn’t  by reading a modification list but by reading through any of his extremely detailed build threads.

This first one I recommend reading would be this thread which chronicles the modifications done to the exterior of this car, and the second would be this more recent one detailing the modifications both visually and mechanically under the hood.

Both threads are interesting, captivating, and inspiring and if by the time you are done reading them you still don’t feel like working on your car then perhaps maybe a trip over to  BatBerryBlog.com where Tim is documenting his build of a Tim Burton Batmobile will do the trick.

Don’t worry I full intend to feature on that when it’s complete.

WTF Friday: Swangin’

2

Going to let this one go a little early this week given the circumstances (Cuba internet is unreliable): Swing up doors are a bit of a touchy subject nowadays.

They were quite popular for awhile but of late have dropped off to the point where most people rocking them currently just can’t be bothered to swap them back.

Personally I judge swing up doors on a case by case basis. For a daily they are probably not the best choice but they do suit some of the more extravagant show builds that are around.

Sadly for every one car that looks good with vertical doors there are about 10 that do not. The owners of these two trucks below decided to take a bit of a different approach to swing up doors and I will let you be the judge of whether it looks good or bad.

This is quite honestly the first time I have ever seen this much door swing up
This looks a little crazy with just the C pillars staying stationary
I would be lying if I said I didn't worry about this trucks structural integrity

Getting into and out of the second truck seems like more than a one person job, but what do I know….

Site Updates

Yep, still in Cuba I will be back sometime Sunday night, and I’ll answer emails/catch up on orders Monday morning.

Flashback Fridays

Been thinking lately of doing a traditional Hot Rod Theme Tuesday, similar to this one on Ford High Boys but open to all makes instead of Ford.

Rear fitment is fairly fat and flush actually...

I don’t know though since the first one got zero comments though. Waddya say now?

Theme Thursdays: Ex Soviet/Russian rides

9

Once again I have Ollie to thank for submitting the content for this weeks Theme Tuesday. Normally I would add a few cars from my own collection to whatever he sends but this week I am on vacation so it’s 100% Ollie’s pics.

I’ve posted a few Russian and Soviet cars before but I have not really looked into them too hard so this is a good switch up of the norm.

Start things off with a Trabant with some Patina
Mesh wheels work on everything...
Exceptionally clean Lada
and another
Polish based Trabant
Ollie digs the eyelids on this car and I have to agree they are very fitting
Nice laid, plaid interior nice touch
Lada with a little from here and a little from there
The last Wartburg I posted had a Subaru motor swapped in it
This cars got just a little bit of motor sport flare to it
Of the cars Ollie sent this Trabant estate was my absolute favorite
It's small like a mini, but a wagon like... well a wagon
Ironically he sent this car first, and I put it last

Sorry for the delay on this one. The internet room here flooded. Go figure…
