WTF Friday: Porsche Emblem Rims

Today’s WTF Friday is a perfect example of what happens when a car owner has a decent chunk of money and no real taste.

Yes, I am sure we have all seen examples of this before, but, this one I found particularly alarming since the rest of the car isn’t over the top with ugly.

If these wheels are more than just a one off production for someone with way to much money let me know.

Otherwise I am just going to assume this guy went down to a custom wheel shop and got these made for some obscene amount just so that he can make sure everyone knows that he really does drive a Porsche…

The rear fitment is actually sort of ok
But I don't think more low could save this

Site updates

There are two meets for this weekend on Sunday, and if it doesn’t rain I should be able to do both.

The first is an optionjdm meet in Markham (12-4 is what I heard) and the second is just the first weekly meet at Square One for jdmrides.ca (should be similar to the TM3/Next mod meet but without the free food).

In store news the white standard (small) URL stickers are sold out along with the white “I Like ‘Em Dropped sticker”.

I will probably place a new order relatively soon but before I do I am going to do a post asking for some feedback in regards to colors and sizing so I can get you guys what you want.

This could have easily been a WTF Friday post but I don’t think that would have done this build the justice it deserves, this is honestly one of the craziest things I have ever seen done by a privateer and obviously I am not alone since jalopnik along with a number of message boards have already given it props.

When a talented 27 year old Quebec native combines an EG chassis Civic with a GD (I think) chassis Subaru on a shoestring budget of less than 6k the internet stops and says “mother of god“.

Instead of putting the Subaru running gear in a chassis it would pretzel this was done the other way round

It fits
Rocker and door jamb fabrication, man this guy can weld.
The Honda roof had to be significantly reinforced as Sub roofs are apparently quite rigid
The wheel base of the WRX is actually sorter than that of the Civic so the fender had to be made essentially
In the paint booth, looks straighter than a lot of stock egs
Fron end nearly complete, like the fenders the bumper had to be fabricated
The looks on peoples faces must be priceless if they realize...
The hitch rack is fitting really

I saw this car in the Mazda3Forums aggressive fitment thread and immediately realized that this is the look that I am after for my car, a reasonable daily drivable amount of flush mixed with a nice stance.

I have quite a few of these same mods already so I just need to get my fitment a bit more on point and I should be looking pretty legit…

Our cars are near dead ringers here, I guess my wheels are gram light reps... oops
New paint, new wheels, new fitment
I am on a fence about that hatch wing...
I am however not on the fence about a shaved hatch, love it!

The vitals on this set up are:
Wheels: Enkei RPF1 17×9 ET45 (+5mm spacers in the rear)
Tires: Federal 595 SS 215/45-17
Suspension: Bilstein B8 shocks, Eibach Sportline springs (1 ring cut F & and 1.25 ring cut R)
Bodywork: Rolled fenders

For me this means that my 7 inch wheels are way too narrow and my next set (which I have been passively looking for) needs to be wider or have a lower offset (my current will be ET38 Monday which is an improvement but still.)

I could also probably get by with 45 profile tires as oppose to 40s with my next set as well. Finally though I am on the same springs as this 3 owner I have not and will not cut my springs as I would rather, eventually, put on some coil overs and really dial in my setup from both a performance and aesthetic perspective (I am on Sportlines and Yellows now for those keeping track).

Either way it was great to see this.

Theme Tuesdays: E30 Tourings

After the E30 M3 Theme Tuesday I basically had to do this one. A lot of you were looking out for this so hopefully you enjoy the group I was able to pull together for this.

I want a Touring really bad now, this is not a good thing (financially).

Starting things off with a stock height flares removed ix touring on RMS

Normally on Tuesdays I just throw up a Theme Tuesday and call it a day.

However when I woke up today I saw these pics of a sick Local s2000 (that’s part of the Level One crew) I knew I had to post it before other blogs are pulling my late pass.

SR20E30/F20 AE86 Drift build updates

As the drift seasons quickly approaches both Ryan and Pat have been working hard to get the final aspects of their builds buttoned up for a track day shake down, it’s been at least a few weeks  since I’ve checked up on either of these builds so let’s see whats new.

Ryan’s SR20E30

Ryan’s SR20E30 build has been an interesting one to follow, Ryan and the maxbimmer.com crowd have not been getting along at all and the build thread basically degraded into an e-pissing match before it was eventually locked.

Regardless Ryan’s working towards finishing his ride and letting the haters hate.

Here are some pictures of the cage build from the last update he posted:

Quite a few people made note that this cage does not have a dashbar but apparently DMCC rules do not require one

Pats F20 AE86

Pats really been putting in work under the hood of this build, the work he has done so far looks super impressive, thought out, and well crafted. 

It’s pretty awesome to have such a talented drifter/fabricator locally.

Event Coverage: TM3/NextMod season opener

On Thursday April 15th the Toronto Mazda 3 Club kicked off their weekly ‘AA Thursdays’ meets at Next Mod in Markham.

The last time I had been to Next Mod was the grand opening and I figured that the turnout to that event couldn’t be rivaled by this one but boy was I wrong.

Not only did members from the Toronto Mazda 3 club come out in large numbers but so did people from the 6 club, and jdmrides.ca. It’s a good thing Next Mod has lots of parking.

Since it was a little cold the store was packed most of the time but I did manage to get a shot of Next Mods new signage and a shipment of Rays wheels.

Nothing must be more satisfying than having the name of your company on a building like this

Non Mazda 3’s

Even though this meet was most heavily advertised on the Mazda 3 forums, whenever there is a car meet in our area it’s expected and welcomed that other people come crash it.

There were quite a few of these guys out but since I forgot my tripod and where they were parked was kind of dark I wasn’t able to get too many shots of these guys, sorry dudes.

Unlike most other car clubs I have been a part of the Mazda 3 women are just as active on the boards and at the meets

Crystal just got her new wheels on and a lip and drop are coming soon
RX-8s are a great looking oem rim, this car also has purple angel eyes

Mazda3 Sedans

WTF Friday: Random Video Mayhem

Cambered out

I’m all for camber and VIP style cars but I think that camber is like salt. The right amount can enhance a dish while too much can spoil it entirely.

Who makes this piece

Depending on what crowd and message board you come from this might be very easy but even on the jdm board I found these pics not too many people had heard of this piece or even knew that it’s still availble.

I am not sure whether or not I like it, it’s different and apparently saves quite a bit of weight though when you consider how much glass is in the original hatch.

This unit gives the DC kind of an MR-2 look without the mid engine of course

Logan and Shawn from Full-Lock / Drift Union recently had their cars re-sprayed matching purple so that they will be hard to miss while ass out on the track. Logan was kind enough to link me to the pictures of the new paint jobs via twitter so that I could share them with y’all.
