Winter Wednesday: Ease Into It

2

At three-quarters of the way through November without significant snow fall this might be the latest Winter Wednesdays have started here on the site.

Apparently we have El Niño to thank for that, and since I’ve yet to put on my winter wheels (this weekend I swear) thank a mass of warm air I will.

However a few places on the outskirts of the GTA did get some snow this week, so to kick off the 2015/2016 Winter season here is quick photo set taken by Markis Sarkis (MAAD Photography Toronto) of a Red bagged G35 coupe on color coded Weds LXZ wheels.

winter-wednesday-2015-2

A member of the Next Level team I’ve seen this car at a few shows both –both when it was black and its current red– and it is just as clean as it looks in pictures.

winter-wednesday-2015-1

If Winter Wednesdays are new to you the concept is pretty simple. Any week where there is significant snow accumulation a car in the snow will be posted here on Stance Is Everything.

You can submit your photos via [email protected].

Theme Tuesdays: The Kids Are All Right – 2

1

My son Ash is currently at the age where he loves anything with wheels and he came about this mostly on his own.

His new-found love for vehicles has me again considering finding a child size car to build should I stumble upon more of the ultra rare resource called ‘free time’ and a few extra dollars.

To inspire myself, and any other parents reading today’s post is part 2 of the Kids Are All Right Theme Tuesday started last march.

Shout out to all of the parents who built these for their kids (and themselves let’s be honest), you’re making me look bad!

Hush Hush

2

Winter is rolling in slowly which means that I’ve been gradually scaling up the amount of time I spend on forums. Of late I’ve been reading a lot of classic car and truck builds to get inspired for my project which has led me back to the Los Boulevardos Forums.

While doing the Paint Ain’t Dead Theme Tuesday a few weeks ago I clicked on a ’67 Cutlass “oldschool lowrider” build and was astounded by the car that lay within.

Owned by user Eryk and built along with a few other forum members this car went from a good-looking daily bagged cruiser to an absolutely top-notch period correct lowrider over the course of 20 pages and three years.

hushhush1hushhush2 hushhush3hushhush4 hushhush5

After completion, and more than a few accolades including a magazine feature and a 2011 Grand National Roadster Show best of class, the car was sold to someone in Sweden where it is today.

hushhush7hushhush9hushhush8hushhush6

After the Cutlass Eryk picked up an even earlier Oldsmobile because he just loves the marquee.

The build thread for the Cutlass is here and the one for the 78 club sedan is here both worth a look if you’re into this sort of thing.

WTF Friday: Chevilac

5

If the C10 from two weeks ago was a little too rough around the edges for you perhaps you might find this weeks more refined version a little less jarring.

Starting with what looks to be a 1970 73 (thank Ben) this truck has undergone quite a bit of nipping and tucking to become the “Chevilac”.

chevilac5

The roof has been chopped, extremely well when compared to scrapratlous truck, and the bed has been modified significantly to better emulate the tail end of a Cadillac.

Fins have been grafted to the bed sides and a cluster of Cadillac lights fill in where the tail gate would have been.

chevilac3chevilac6chevilac2

The exhaust exits look like they also came from a Cadillac but I’m not enough of a Caddy buff to know what model.

chevilac4

Up front it looks like later model Chevy (possibly flipped) Ford Super Duty headlights (thanks Mike and Jeff) have replaced the original sealed beams, the grill has been replaced with a custom unit and a Cadillac bumper complete with bumperettes finishes off the front end.

chevilac1

Finally the whole thing sits at what looks like roughly a 4/5″ drop, Weld wheels and has been painted an interesting shade of green. The hood and tire selection also suggest something potent might be lurking within.

Not my taste, but certainly creative and well done.

Theme Tuesdays: Readers Rides Revisted

3

For the last two years I’ve done a sub par job keeping up with the reader’s rides posts here on the site. Most submissions end up either on Facebook and Instagram but very few carry over to the site itself.

Today, to make amends, I’m dedicating this week’s Theme Tuesday to some of the more recent submissions, along with those that have been sitting starred in my inbox for sometime.

Hopefully I can start doing reader’s rides Theme Tuesdays on a quarterly (or so) basis so feel free to send submissions to [email protected] as you all know I enjoy a bit of everything so don’t be shy!

Start things off with a video submitted by South Africa’s Imaad Griffiths featuring a bagged MK7 GTI tucking 20s.

Event Coverage: Megawheelz Oktoberfest 2015

0

The conclusion of a seasons worth of outdoor event coverage comes with a few photos from Oktoberfest at MegaWheelz in Mississauga.

Oktroberfest is a laid back event I first went to a few years ago located on the south side of Mississauga. I originally planned to stay for longer but as it turns out 18 month old children are slightly less enthused about car shows when the weather is cooler and there are pumpkins near by that could be rolled off planters.

Never the less Ash and myself took a quick look at what was there and contributed a few dollars towards the Canadian Cancer Society.

mega-wheelz-oktoberfest-varstoens mega-wheelz-oktoberfest-allroad

Back from his trip to Ocean city Sic Ryde brought out his dually which is currently wrapped white, it’s also on fairly large Forgioto wheels now too.

mega-wheelz-oktoberfest-sic-ryde-sic-load

The Alpina B10 that I’ve seen at a few previous events was also present. I’ve still yet to meet the owner of this car but he’s done a stellar job of keeping an amazing piece of machinery in great shape while still enjoying it (read: he drives it).

mega-wheelz-oktoberfest-bmw-alpina

Also well-preserved and enjoyed was the 967 below, along with a Volkswagen type II.

mega-wheelz-oktoberfest-porsche-1

I actually don’t believe I have seen this particular Type II before… super clean.
mega-wheelz-oktoberfest--vw-bus

Jettas are a staple of a Euro show and this MK2 took me back to high school.

Ronal wheels, eyebrows, low ride height, and I an ‘I put this on because I got pulled over’ exhaust.

mega-wheelz-oktoberfest-mk2-jetta-ronals-2

This MK3 is the only other car I’ve seen at a meet with Mtechnica wheels since I got my own. I do quite like the Rallye wheels but I think they fit older European cars much better. Yes I’m kicking myself for not snapping a photo of the Audi Coupe Quattro in the background.

mega-wheelz-oktoberfest-mk3-mtechnica

There were a couple of really awesome air set ups at Oktoberfest but these two really stood out.

mega-wheelz-oktoberfest-hardlines

The hardlines above were really clean but the trunk below, which used a pair of old fire extinguishes and a vintage air gauge, really impressed me. I’d really love to see a build thread on this one as I’m curious what needed to be done to make them handle the pressure.

mega-wheelz-oktoberfest-extinguisher-tanks

I’ve never really watched Sponge Bob but I’ve seen Patrick themed wheels popping up more and more lately.

mega-wheelz-oktoberfest-vw-landrover-wheel-patrick

However not to be outdone by some creativity @s5tommy showed off his great looking HRE 501 wheels.

mega-wheelz-oktoberfest-audi-s5-hre-3

The S5 really doesn’t need much to stand out and a set of bags and a nice exhaust made sure everyone took a look when he pulled in slow.

mega-wheelz-oktoberfest-audi-s5-hre-2

I saw this car driving through Mississauga over the weekend and it looks outstanding rolling down the street.

mega-wheelz-oktoberfest-audi-s5-hre-1

End things off with this 997 GT3 parked in front of the shop, slowly but surely more of these can be found around the GTA.

That’s it for this year, like I said short and sweet, see you next!

WTF Friday: Project 2005

0

Quick hit today once again courtesy of Kijiji, visually this car is a most of a Pontiac Firefly mated to a long, ant-eater like, front end one can only assume is a custom piece.

Mechanically the car uses a Beetle air-cooled power plant that “wouldn’t take much to fire up” according to the owner. The pan might come from a beetle as well but it isn’t really stated.

It’s place of origin, builder, or even a price are also not mentioned in the ad and interesting trades are considered.

Maybe this guy and the owner of the Geo Metro from a few weeks back should swap?

Theme Tuesdays: Rest In Peace George Barris

0

The automotive community suffered a great loss last week with the passing of the King of the Kustomizers, George Barris. Like many my first introduction to his work came by way of the original Batmobile, but since further diving into car culture I’ve seen, and become a fan off, a lot of his other creations.

Today as sort of salute I’m going to post up a varied collection of a fraction of the cars he built, designed, or his shop had a part in creating.

I feel honored to have met him a few years ago at the Fleetwood Country Cruise In and to have seen him there again this year.

Obviously can’t end this post without a shot of the original Batmobile, and the man himself posing beside it, rest in peace

Humble Elegance: Ken’s Toyota Celsior

0

There are some people who make building a car a very public spectacle. I’m not talking about those who share their builds in order to benefit others and get help along the way, I’m talking about people who tease endlessly and boisterously make claims that their project is going to ‘kill the game’ and ‘set the standard’.

Then there are enthusiasts who humbly put together cars outside of the public eye, and when the car is complete they don’t shy away from the spotlight but at the same time they don’t beg for it, or worse expect it.

Ken falls in the latter category. He’s been quietly building this car for the past two years and while he’s always down to talk about it –and any other car for that matter– he does so in only the humblest manner.

bagged-accuair-toms-vip-celsior-1 bagged-accuair-toms-vip-celsior-27

Born in Japan, but a Canadian resident from ten on, Ken has been a car enthusiast for most of his life.

Much like myself his passion for cars was instilled in him by his father who, despite not owning the most exotic of vehicles, thoroughly enjoyed the cars he did have and drove them in a manner we will just call ‘spiritedly’.

bagged-accuair-toms-vip-celsior-3

Once his family moved to Canada Ken’s passion shifted from four wheels to two, and for eight years he honed his flatland BMX skills to the point where he became a semi pro rider for SE Bikes Canada.

However once Ken got his licence and entered university memories of Japan, and his dad driving the Shuto kosuku, came flooding back and the 20″ was parked for an extended period of time.

Prior to the Celsior Ken owned a Civic EF, a BA Prelude, an EK Civic, very briefly a Nissan Altima and then finally a 2004 Acura TSX. After such a wide assortment of front wheel drive Japanese cars Ken felt the allure of a big body rear wheel drive sedan and decided to shift gears.

bagged-accuair-toms-vip-celsior-4bagged-accuair-toms-vip-celsior-5

After being disappointed with the local high mileage and rust riddled Infiniti Q45 and Lexus LS400 selection a friend suggested he look abroad. Soon after looking at what his home country had to offer a 1997.5 UCF20 “eR” (euro tuned) model was on its way from Japan with less than 50,000km on the odometer and Ken’s name on the ownership.

Rolling off the Right Drive container bone stock Ken’s original plans were the infamous “wheels and a drop” we have all at one point tried to limit ourselves to.

One ride in his friends bagged Honda Accord and that all changed, UAS Aerosport bags were then fit over BC coilovers paired with Accuair Switchspeed management.

bagged-accuair-toms-vip-celsior-7bagged-accuair-toms-vip-celsior-6

Drawn to unique modifications over go fast parts Ken took an approach similar to a traditional hot rodder when piecing the rest of the car together.

Where a traditional ‘rodder would attend local swap meets hunting for that special era correct part Ken spent his time on Yahoo Auctions and Up Garage looking for just the right period correct accessories.

His treasure hunting skills are clearly well-developed because the interior of this car is one of the most unique ever featured on Stance Is Everything.

Garson DAD accessories exist throughout including but not limited to; dash mat, cup holders, rear seat console, cushions, slippers, and pillows.

bagged-accuair-toms-vip-celsior-8bagged-accuair-toms-vip-celsior-9

For the classic VIP touch a Garson DAD table has been installed up front and Jaguar table has been retrofitted for the rear.

bagged-accuair-toms-vip-celsior-10

Putting the car over the top is Ken’s use of accessories from the OEM Toyota catalog. Did you know that rear ottomans were a factory option for this car? Neither did I, but Ken has them in addition to illuminated Celsior door sills and a factory accessory seat hanger.

The lace seat covers are also, almost unbelievably, a rare factory option as well.

bagged-accuair-toms-vip-celsior-14bagged-accuair-toms-vip-celsior-12bagged-accuair-toms-vip-celsior-13

Despite the fact that he literally steps on them every time he drives Ken also paid mind to the cars pedals.

Lorinser pieces cover the dead, gas, brake pedals and a Pittura unit covers the foot actuated e brake.

bagged-accuair-toms-vip-celsior-15

On the outside of the car Ken maintained the factory two-tone but updated it a bit with a Silkblaze front lip.

An Aimgain front grill removes the Toyota emblem and really lets the front end speak for itself.

bagged-accuair-toms-vip-celsior-16bagged-accuair-toms-vip-celsior-17

TOM’s side skirts join the party along with a TOM’s rear bumper. A parking pole has also been installed to truly complete the imported from Japan look.

bagged-accuair-toms-vip-celsior-20bagged-accuair-toms-vip-celsior-19bagged-accuair-toms-vip-celsior-18

Ken admits he’s a bit of a wheel fanatic with his last car seeing ten sets, and this one on its fourth already.

With every set of wheels Ken has paid careful attention not to go too aggressive despite the numbers game going on in some parts of the VIP and LS400/Celsior communities.

bagged-accuair-toms-vip-celsior-22bagged-accuair-toms-vip-celsior-21

Opting not to run the risk of distorting the factory body lines, or worse creating the dreaded bacon fender, Ken only selects wheels that will play nice with his flawless bodywork.

Looking at how well the current 19 x8.5 +26 and 19×9.5 +34 Autocouture Crescent wheels fit it’s impossible to argue with his selection criteria, even when he does admit that he is looking to make the set square at some point in the future.

bagged-accuair-toms-vip-celsior-24bagged-accuair-toms-vip-celsior-23

With the suspension, wheels, bumpers, and interior all upgraded the last thing to do on Ken’s list was upgrade the factory lighting.

Previously being a local retrofit source these lighting upgrades came easy and in no time flat HID projectors were fit into the factory housings along with extremely bright angel eyes paired with LED RGB demon eyes.

bagged-accuair-toms-vip-celsior-25bagged-accuair-toms-vip-celsior-26

The front turn signals are now also LED units as are the rear tail lights which have the ability to dance when given the right beat.

bagged-accuair-toms-vip-celsior-2

Never one to stop collecting, or tinkering Ken is looking to get a new front lip for the car before this season is done in addition to the aforementioned pair of slightly more aggressive wheels.

However of late the itch to work on a Toyota Century has made itself known. Will this car soon make way for another iconic VIP platform? Only time will tell!

WTF Friday: Scrapratlou

1

In a recent cruise by S10 Forum for some WTF Friday content I came across a link to @scrapratlou’s instagram account and was instantly amazed at just how far outside the lines Lou has coloured building this truck.

Starting with a $200 C10 ‘Scrap Rat’ quickly chopped the top fairly significantly, and crafted a visor made from the leading edge of a what I assume to be a different c10 hood.

scrapratlou-1

With similar ingenuity he made a grill out of what looks like the centre of a tailgate section from yet another c10.

scrapratlou-2

The creative thinking doesn’t stop there, the floor is made up entirely of license plates, literal bench seats are used as seating, wrenches are used as pedals, and a light switch controls the headlights.

View this post on Instagram

@mikeybenevides

A post shared by Scrapratlou (@scrapratlou) on

I’m sure you also noticed the protrusion from the hood in the second photo that pushes a turbo right in the view of the driver.

scrapratlou-4

The kit which was apparently originally for a small block runs through a quadrajet carb that Lou claims isn’t exactly happy about the idea of boost but does work overall.

scrapratlou-3

The plumbing seems to be a mis-mash of oem (flipped headers) and custom made components and incase of emergancy there’s a telephone under hood.

The truck really is one of the oddest, craziest, and most peculiar builds I have ever seen, but the owner seems to be having a lot of fun with it so it is hard to fault him.

I will say however that I have absolutely no idea how this car is registered to drive on the street but I’ll leave that problem in the hands of the Connecticut Police Department.
