Pay It Forward Give-away

126

This year while I in Vegas for SEMA my girlfriend and I got married after eight years of her putting up with my impractical cars, obsession with small plastic transforming toys, and risky children’s bike manoeuvres.

Though it was a surprise to many we actually planned the entire thing before hand and one of my few responsibilities was to arrange a vehicle to do the drive through ceremony in. After putting out an S.O.S. on twitter I immediately got a response from Las Vegas local Luis Planas of Kreative Street Designz who had a recently restored 72 c10 we could use.

The truck was purple, our wedding theme was purple, Lyndsey loved it, and I love trucks, so I gave Luis the details regarding our ceremony and he met us there.

When all was said and done and I tried to pay Luis for his troubles he refused to take any payment instead suggesting I ‘pay it forward‘. Beyond a few twitter/gtalk conversations Luis and I were practically strangers at this point so for him to step up and do this for my wife and I meant a lot. I’ve still got a lot of paying it forward gestures ahead of me to make up for his kindness but hopefully this give-away is a step in the right direction.

While running this site I’ve been fortunate enough to wind up with a lot of free product and instead of selfishly continuing to horde these t-shirts, stickers, key chains, bracelets, lanyards, and plate frames I’ve decided to split it up equally, toss in some Stance Is Everything merchandise, and mail it to three of you reading this right now.

Low36

0

On one of my more recent Wrong Fitment Crew lurk sessions I spotted this green 97 328i owned by user low36.

BBS wheels on an e36 isn’t anything outside of the norm but when it’s as cleanly executed as this my attention is peaked.

I particularly like the colour along with fact that the owner didn’t go the M bumper route. My love for the fact that it’s on a custom Air Lift set-up should be obvious.

The wheels are 16×7 et11 and 16×8.5 et-8 with 205/40/16 all around and the owner is planning to widen the fronts over the winter.

More of this car can be found here.

Theme Tuesdays: OG Minitrucks

6

About a month ago the idea to do a follow up to the fairly well received ‘Old School Minitruck’ Theme Tuesday began to creep into my head but it wasn’t until I came across The Coalition of OG Minitruckin on Facebook that it really came together.

After almost immediately losing an hour of my day upon discovery, I sent the page admin an email and we agreed that it’s been far too long since some OG (traditionally styled) minitrucks have been posted on Stance Is Everything.

Looking through the wealth of pictures and information the page offers I can’t help but wonder how today’s trends will be viewed several years down the road.

Part of me can’t wait to find out and the other part of me remembers owning a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle fanny pack.

Eitherway the individuality in each of these trucks speaks volumes.

This photo should set the tone of how far back we are going with this post
Check the detail in the door
Taz was incredibly popular in the nineties  I know I had that green pillow, myself. It’s little unfortunate you don’t see murals so often anymore.
Glass art is also seldom seen
Drip paint, louvers, and reversed wheels, OG at it’s finest
Kitted out shaved s10
Trackers never really did get low enough for me but were a staple of the OG scene
Astro’s take things back… can’t think of the last time I saw one at a show (or elsewhere for that matter)
Tilt beds and toppers are another staple
Pushing aggressive fitment before people were calling it aggressive fitment
Long bed short box, scallops, chrome fender trim, so classic. Love the window on the topper too.
For some reason this reminds me of that often spoofed scene of John Cusak in Say Anything
Choptop Datsun on Welds?
Bed dancing Tandems anyone!?
Hell I would take both the bike and the car today
Looking in the comments of this photo on their fanpage it seems as though this truck may have had an influence on a few local Rangers, most notably Gary’s truck
Hammered
This one was spotted on ebay
Seeing this makes me want to fly to TN and drive back a clean Blazer
Looks to be just about half the wheel tucked..
Japan really digs OG minitrucking style and Datsuns take well to it
Like I said Japan loves it…
This truck is actually recently finished in Japan
Trucks as big as this can’t die, the OG page admin tell me this truck is being rebuilt
Though this picture looks sad this is also being rebuilt currently
As is this
Some info around what’s known as the ‘first’ body dropped truck, ever.

Big thanks to the guys at The Coalition of OG MiniTruckin for letting me share these photos with you and I encourage you  to take a look around his page.

It’s perhaps the best source of mini trucking history to date.

Clint Jolly Green

8

Sometime in May I tweeted a photo of my Canon on a tripod in front of my car and @ClintJollyGreen was one of the first to ask when those photos would be posted.

My car isn’t exactly top priority around here so my reply was simply “soon”.

This is not soon, and those of you who like my car should thank Clint for his persistence as left to my own schedule these probably would have never made it up.

I didn’t really a whole lot to my car this year but I did use the pothole incident as an excuse to get shorter springs (this is now my fourth suspension set-up), and I ditched the sunroof  visor along with a few other extremely minor changes.

I’m hoping to do a little more next year but we will see what the future holds. As it sits I can drive it at the height it is all year without any issue and still carry three bikes and three people without rubbing which has to be some sort of miracle.

The car also just clicked over to 195k so keeping the rust at bay has also got my hands full.

Since those photos are kind of ho hum here are some additional ones taken by Calvin Lee, I know Right Studios, and Kevin Lam respectively.

While I am at it I may as well throw in this photo of me riding in front of my car for those who may have not seen it.

Still a little bummed that the table kind of sucks but timing it all proved a lot harder than I thought. I’ve also included a test shot for the heck of it.

WTF Friday: Oh my stars and garters

4

Lately, when posting a ‘questionably’ modified WTF Friday discovery, I try to find at least one redeeming quality to compliment. Unfortunately with this car I can’t really think of anything to say beyond “it’s unique”, which is basically the participation trophy of compliments.

I’m actually really surprised that anyone did this to a Starion to begin with considering that they are a relatively obscure chassis to those who are into front and rear end swaps.

Currently for sale in PA this 86 has spent a significant amount of time under the knife, take a look:

“2002 Pontiac Sunfire headlights, 2002 Oldsmobile Alero fog lights, 2006 Nissan 350z” – What?
“2011 Camaro Tails” – What!?!?
“20” Venti Plus Wheels”.. ehh expected at this point
2006 BMW 745 center console – What!?!?!?!?!
Could have at least pushed the wheels out a little bit…

All yours for nine grand if your ready to own such a beast.

I will say the colours are not bad.

Summer yet?

Flashback Friday

Here’s what I think a Starion should look like via the Turbo Dodge Theme Tuesday.

Rover

1

Last week I posted an Audi on 3 piece TMBs to which Ollie replied “some times I think if I see another VAG on Rotiforms I’m gonnna shoot my self. Isn’t the idea of custom cars that you never see another one like it?

I thought about that comment for awhile and realised that despite the fact I still enjoy a good VAG car dumped on Rotiforms Ollie’s point rings true because if I see another Rocket Bunny Kitted FR-S I just might scream a little bit.

So with something different in mind I’ve decided to post this second generation Rover Coupé I stumbled upon awhile back.

Wound down over top of wheels I feel bad for not being able to name of (tip of my tongue I swear), this particular 216 has also been fitted with a Civic rear spoiler and Opel Calibra side skirts.

Far from an over used platform this car certainly stood amongst the varied builds that pop up in my rss reader.

More info here on rovercoupe.net. The owner has since sold it and moved on to a new project.

Theme Tuesdays: Gassers – Part 1

3

Starting out purely as a way to put more power to the ground the gasser stance is easily one of the most iconic and recognisable in all of Motorsport and going this long without doing a Theme Tuesday dedicated to another one of the many pioneers of stance is almost sacrilegious on my part.

Thankfully with some contributions from Ollie, pictures I had on hand, and a few bookmarks, pulling this one together didn’t take all that long.

Some of you might not get the appeal but those that do will enjoy.

I see this car quite a bit as the owner runs a tattoo shop near my house
Been awhile since I’ve seen this one though
Roadmates ’55 Chevy
From the SEMA roll-out post about a week ago
Makes me want to go edit the photo above a little warmer
Ford Thames Gasser from Japan
Toyota Stout from Japan
Classic Chevy gasser
Massive.
Bad Bitch
Probably one of the last cars I ever expected to see like this
…then again
Altered wheebase/gasser hybrid?
329ci Powered Mini Gasser
I thought about not including this due to the forward rake but it’s just too damn good looking
Widest front tires of this entire post
Barracuda Gasser from Speed Hunters Eagle Field Coverage
I have to make sure to attend one of the local nostalgic drags next year
Simply awesome
With everything deemed unimportant stripped these cars got the front wheels up pretty easy
Drivers eyes almost look shocked
Vintage wheelie Theme Tuesday still in the works…
I honestly can’t recall if I have posted this before but it is one of the best photos I have ever seen
Classic.

If you want to read a little more about Gassers and the car that apparently started it all check out this awesome article over on the Amazo Effect that really set this post into motion.

El Camino

2

When I think about El Camino’s (which is more often than I should probably admit) it’s usually fifth generation, or very occasionally fourth gens, but hardly ever anything earlier than that and almost never first generation models.

A lot of that could be attributed to my age but another contributing factor is, at least locally, there are very few first generations driving around in stock form and even less have anything of note done to them.

Based on the Brookwood  (a car that’s graced these pages once or twice) and built to compete with the Ranchero the first generation El Caminos are big, elaborate, and adorned with copious amounts of chrome trim which means that they take very well to a healthy does of low, a little metal flake, and some white walls wrapped around Supremes.

The front end of this generation may be love hate but there is no confusing it with anything else
Absolouetly love the Stance on this, very Los Boulevardos
The flaked subtle two tone is also a great touch and couldn’t have been done without those classic 1960’s fins and chrome.
Fairly sure most of my car would fit in the bed
Perhaps the cars most flattering angle

More photos of it can be found here and here or by googling Riche Valles’ El Camino. I spotted it on The Low-Down.

WTF Friday: Rotary Estate Club

4

People from New Zealand love their rotaries and if one of my co workers is any indication they also love their Mini’s so if you look at it from that angle this combination of Mini body, custom chassis, and Mazda heart makes perfect, logical, sense.

Hell even if it didn’t make perfect logical sense the end result is so phenomenal that it doesn’t matter.

Underneath classic Mini Clubman estate metal is a completely re-engineered chassis that houses a Mazda 12A rotary engine. All the important dimensions remain proper Mini spec so that the cars proportions are unchanged and there is not any need for flares or any insane body work.

Adding to this vehicles awesomeness is the fact the owner sat the whole incredibly close to the ground over some Performance Challenger wheels.

Damn near factory looking from the outside other than the ride height
Underneath however is a different story entierly
Sadly the shots of the interesting bits are not the greatest
But until more pics surface these will have to do
#lowcarproblems

Someone out in NZ needs to get some proper photos of this asap.

Until then here’s a video when it was still a bit more of a work in progress.

Rare-Snare & Stance Is Everything

2

As Stance Is Everything continues to grow the number of people interested in working with the site increases in kind but few have come off as professional and personable as Craig at Rare-Snare.

An enthusiast for over a decade, and a connoisseur  of all things low, Craig started Rare-Snare with the mindset that the community needed a place to find great products at great prices without having to jump through hoops.

In the short time Rare-Snare has been around Craig has built up a serious product line including wheels from BBS, Enkei, Work, and Rotiform, along with suspension offerings from Tein, Stance, and KW, and interior accessories from Bride, Nardi, and Personal.

Needless to say the products Craig carries are right up the alley of  Stance Is Everything readers and that’s why we are proud to announce the exclusive Stance Is Everything/ Rare-Snare  ‘low247‘ discount code that gives customers ‘10%’ of their total purchase.

Enjoy and happy shopping!

Note: Currently Rare-Snare ships to North American only but Craig has assured me international shipping is in the works. This coupon code is good for the next six months.
