About a year ago a post title with a Dexter influenced title ‘Body Dump‘ showcased a hot rod flatz black, bodied, 400hp, s10 I spotted on s10 forum.
Last week the owner Erik came across the post, and emailed asking if I would be interested in running a quick update on the truck.
Noting a recent decline in the truck content on the site (SEMA excluded) I gladly accepted the pictures he sent on by.
The wheels, paint, motor, and hood set-up remain similar to before but the suicide doors, and rag top, are a new additionsThe factory tailgate skin has also been replaced since the last postRounding out the larger changes is this very cool one off sheet metal dash built by friend of Erik’sErik also sent through some photos of his girlfriend Sairene modelling with the truckWhich I am sure none of you mind being posted
Finally here’s a quick walk around video, truck sounds awesome in my opinion.
Thanks for sending some updated shots by Erik! If you have some dragging footage I’m sure I am not the only one who would love to see it.
Fast Five was on the other day and while I was watching Vince drive a Pantera into the desert sunset it occurred to me that I don’t post nearly enough Panteras on this site.
It’s no secret that I am a fan of the Countach-era cheese wedge designed cars, nor is it a secret that I like gas guzzling American motors, so the Pantera will forever be near the top of my favourite cars ever built list.
Never mind the fact they’ve got a great ass and can run some seriously wide wheels on all four.
No clue how they handle but most of the cars I like handle poorly.
Start things off with the scene from Fast Five that triggered this post72 in Race trimLook at the width on those rear tires72 Group 4 PanteraThis GT4 was up for sale in July and had to turbos strapped to it, a bit of a basket case sadlyThis one however looks very well sortedRever Clothing Pantera this drop might be shopped thoughThis one is a little weird, not quite sure if I like it or not…Like this one except for the signals/parking lightsThis wing in particular is quite Countach likeDat.Dat continued.Something curious going on with the roof of this one, the wide body is well done thoughSo stoked to find another angle of this car that I posted in the wide body American Theme TuesdayLong time readers will remember this car from the old site header (and presently favicon)Still one most tastefully modified street examples I’ve seenI only recently became aware of the Pantera Scene in JapanNeedless to say if I went to Japan I would need to find these guysHuge Panasport wheels on thisMore Japanese Panteras can be found hereVS designs take on what a Bosozoku inspired Pantera might look like500hp widebody PanteraThe tire tread leads me to believe the owner enjoys all of those 500 horses
A couple weeks ago I was at my mom’s place flipping through an old issue of Ride BMX when I stopped on a photo of former Schwinn sponsored pro flatlander Andrew Faris doing a half cab tailwhip down a three stair.
Two things immediately came to mind; 1) that’s still a very hard difficult trick and 2) what the heck ever happened to Andrew anyway?
As turns out Andrew Faris didn’t fall off the face of the earth –as many a rider had assumed– he just shifted the drive and focus he had as a rider towards building custom cars at his shop Graveyard Restorations and Custom Cars in Saskatoon.
His most recent build is this 35 Ford Slant Window that was featured in the 2012 Meguiar’s International Car Crazy Showcase.
When I first spotted the car on day one it caught my eye and I fired off a quick snap (the first one below), but when I found out it was Andrew’s (via current pro Jason Enns and his instagram) I made my way back to take a few more photos.
In addition to bein painted , H.O.K. grey & candy gold the body has been chopped 1.5 inches and sectioned 1 inch in the rearThose are custom headlight buckets grafted to the fenders and the grill has been shortened 2.5″Accuair provided the air managementThe interior is done to match the exterior and features a custom hardwood floorPorsche Speedster tails compliment in the rear
While searching for more info on the car I was able to find a couple good photos of angles I missed on enjoythedrive.com:
The aforementioned hardwood floorsThe wheels are Billet Specialities Legacy 2GsWhich look great tucked in the fenders
For nostalgia purposes here’s Andrew’s old frame ad and along with a tribute video:
Getting a chance to hang out with two Canadian BMX legends at SEMA was totally unexpected and made an already great trip even better, maybe I should follow up on a few other riders with a passion for cars.
I know there are more than a few out there…Rob Nolli comes to mind.
Here’s a bit of a head twister; somewhere in America a clever hotrodder decided that the way traditional small block Chevys work was too boring so he flipped everything on it’s head putting the exhaust where the intake was and the intake where the exhaust was.
This creates a completley unique looking motor that on first glance leaves you wondering how in the hell it all works.
Really it was done a simply as possible. First a new cam was made that switched switched the intake and exhaust lobes the opposite way, followed by modified flat-head V8 distributor and small block Chevy timing cover. Finally some Honda 750 carbs were converted to use E85 some compression tweaks and well.. bob’s your uncle.
As it sits in these pictures below there it has an remote water pump, and remote radiator, and is gravity fed fuel. It’s also got no charging system.
Why? Well on the HAMB the owner gives us this answer:
We aren’t too proud to admit we did it just to blow peoples minds….My favourite is looking at the distorted faces on the hard core guys that see it the first time. Its like looking at someone in pain.
It’s a bit old now so I don’t know if a charging system was added or if the car became anything more than a ‘wow would you look at that’ build.
Site Updates
Started to get cold and boring around these parts but I’ve already began to look for new ways to bring some original coverage to the site so hopefully it all works out.
I am also working on getting content organized from contributor Ollie to bring back Oliver’s Travels for the winter.
I’ve finally reached the point where more SEMA photos are behind me than ahead of me which means this is the last 40+ image post for SEMA 2012.
I know for some the coverage seems a little excessive and drawn out but I view the opportunity to attend SEMA as a privilege that could potentially be revoked at any time so I don’t want to ever have the feeling I could have done better once it’s all said and done.
Today’s coverage is going to be a mix of the central and new product halls along with a quick peek outside and some manufacturers areas thrown in for good measure.

Remember TNN?
Who of you reading this remember The Nashville Network? As a wee one I loved that station between 8-10 Saturday mornings and about 8-9 Saturday night which aired what is now the Powerblock and Monster Jam respectively.
The vehicles below appearing in this post are directly influenced by TNN.
I’d love to see this in a Tough Truck competition to see if it can actually handle a few bumps, past examples say it might not…I’ve got no doubts this could hold it’s own thoughRock Hard Ram tractor pull truck2500hp Cummins motor…Remember the days when monster trucks were slow as heck and didn’t have FG bodies? Come a long way
Mazda
There was literally only one car that caught my eye in the entire Mazda area this year and that’s the 787 which is the predecessor to the legendary 787B.
Beautiful piece of machinaryGood on Mazda for bringing this out because otherwise I would have walked right past their area
Honda
Similar to Mazda the only thing Honda brought out that I didn’t see at the Canadian International Autoshow was their 2012 American Lemans LMP1 Champion car the HPD (Honda Performance Development) ARX-03a.
Driven hard and put away wet this car one six races in the 2012 season
Kia
Kia did something a little different for SEMA 2012 and teamed up with DC comics and West Coast Customs to produce a group of Justice League themed cars based on their current production models. If you are not a comic book fan you might want to just skip over this section to the next one but if you are they are worth a look.
Of the concepts this was probably my least favourite which makes sense because it’s also my least favourire Justice League characterCyborg Cerato surprisingly sitting on RotiformsThe Flash Cerato Koup which despite the Flash theme is stock under hoodAs some of you may know we have a Soul in the house so seeing this was… interesting. It works here but for an actual non comic book concept car….Only makes sense that the best character of the entire DC franchise (in my opinion) got the best looking concept of the fiveI could almost see someone driving this
Ford
Outside of the Mustang I’m not really a huge Ford guy but this year at SEMA Ford really surprised me with the cars they brought out that I wouldn’t normally give a second glance.
Tijin Edition Ford FusionBagged AWD Fusion built by MRT PerformanceBoosted and Juiced Ford Focus ST SedanBuilt by VACCAR in YoungstownLove The Mustang RTR which looks great on HRE classics. If I were to change one thing it would be the dull textured grey to carbon or black
Hyundai
Hyundai has been steadily building their credibility in recent years and this year they brought out a slew of nice Velosters along with their 2013 Genesis.
When Lyndsey’s Kia got monster trucked we heavily considered the Veloster as a replacement, had she seen this prior I think we would have one in the garageBisimoto’s second build of the show was this 600hp Elantra GTImpressive numbers from a tiny 1.8Hyundai of course was showing off modified versions of their latest Genesis designAccording to a security guard this one was so high up to protect the paint
Love Fab NSX
Going to end the coverage with what is probably the most insane NSX to ever be built. Or perhaps the most insane car to be built out of an NSX, I’m not entirely sure which to classify it as considering just how heavily this is modified.
Either way it’s insane, with no mind paid to aesthetics and everything devoted to function.
Love the stick on NSX lightsEvidently this car has so much down force that the suspension had to be redesigned to cope with itYou can see the center shock absorber that is used to up the spring rate when necessary.Like most of the rest of the car there is no visual cues that this is an NSX on the insideNuts
Then Rauh Welt Begriff had brought two extremely popular builds to SEMA –the now black Pandora One 965, and the 965 Hoonigan— and everyone who was anyone was photographing, posting, tweeting, and just generally carrying on about those cars several times a day.
It was a bit much to say the least.
This year, being a year old, the lone RWB/egarage Porsche at SEMA received very little attention and fanfare which gave me a chance to enjoy it in peace.
After seeing photos of these cars online for so long it was nice to appreciate one in personThe fit and finish is way better than I would have expected from a manufacturer with “Rough” in their nameFlush.Closer look at the fit and finishCertainly using all of that wide body to it’s potentialWish the trailer wasn’t in the way so I could have got a better ‘dat ass’ shot
I thought about doing another women of SEMA Theme Tuesday for 2012 but as it turns out I only took about six photos of models this year four of which sucked.
That means it’s time to fall back to an old favourite, ‘Classy Car Models’.
Hard to believe this has stretched to a six posts, I’m not exactly strict with the rules though.
Some style via FatlaceGuess Fords are not the only car leaving women stranded in this postShe happens to be the owner of this car as well read the feature on SNTRLAnother Car/Owner shotI think a shot from this shoot as made every post…Ladies love FuturasKind of looks like an actress I can’t put my finger on who though…Wonder what the specs on those wheels are…Spotted in a random pictures of sick cars threadI may have watched an episode (or 72) of Buffy in the day…Suddenly I have the urge to see Skyfall… check out the rest of this photographers work here
Heading back outside of the Las Vegas Convention Center for this extra long SEMA coverage post today.
I’m not sure the exact criteria for parking outside of the Convention Center but if I were to guess I’d imagine it’s similar to one of the larger “invite-only” car shows in the states.
I like walking the outside because many of the cars look as though they put rubber down on the street inside of just inside a trailer.
DUB Show Tour
The shuttle that ran from our hotel to the show stopped right outside the ‘DUB’ area of the show so that is where today’s coverage will begin.
We don’t get these shows in Canada so walking around the one at SEMA is always interesting to say the least.
The shuttle stop was literally right behind this dually so it’s as good place to start as anyWhile not as low as some of the other duallys at SEMA I could appreciate the interior work, I personally love when striping continues into the jambsNot a huge fan of the wheel faces but the rest of this car is pretty niceIf memory serves the wheels on this were also quite questionable but the colour was niceKompresion Wheels ’37 Ford coupe projectThe Torq Roadster; a weird reverse trike that weighs less than 2000 lbs and has 612 foot pounds of torqueFisker KarmaWood inserts caught my eye, wonder if this will catch onMisha Designs widebody SLM, a stand out of the Dub areaSLR adorned with lots of CFWANT.Also wouldn’t mind thisHofele kitted Audi A8L from Platinum MotorsportBeetle bagged on Fifteen52sAventador on new penny esque finished wheels, HRE had a finish like this on display as wellCouldn’t go through the whole DUB section without taking shots of something ridiculousCurious how much time is spent on each of these wheels (clearly more time than was spent on headlight fitment)To each their own right?

In 2010 there was a number of stunning VIP builds outside the show and this year was more of the same, don’t readily recall seeing any inside however.

Trucks
So many great trucks at SEMA and so little time and card space. I guess it’s to my advantage that most of them are outside which allowed me to take a lot of these photos after we were told to leave the Convention Center.

Hoping to finish of the inside of the show with the next post then intermix a few more showstoppers in with the rest of the weeks content. 29 gigs worth of photos takes a bit of time to go through.
When I posted a photo of Jake’s Genesis on the fanpage many of you commented saying it was one of the best Gens currently rolling the streets and that I should go back for a closer look at the motor, interior, and trunk.
I’m not one to argue with my readers so each time I passed the car I made an effort to notice something different and after doing so I would have to agree that it’s one of the nicest Genesis builds I have seen to date.
Considering how drastically some cars differ from their initial renderings Jake did a great job of staying true to his vision, especially when it comes down to park height and wheel fitment.
Jake’s car is bagged on AirRex suspension and sits on 3 piece Blonix Snowflakes wheels made by ISS ForgedThe wheels are currently one of one and took home the Felgenoutlet Award for the best wheel and tire combo, which means Jake got this amazing trophyNice combination of show and go under the hoodIf all went to plan that is a Garrett GTX 2876 and under that cf is a TurboXS tubular manifoldI liked the subtle use of Dooney & Bourke material in the interior along with the center console treatmentFitting in with the rest of the car the trunk has also been done tastefullyDual compressors surround a colour matched tankIntercooler looks great behind the Sarona Hannah bumper
Between Jake’s car the Datsun Bluebird beside it SUN* WORKS killed it at SEMA 2012.
What do you get when you cross a MK1 Volkswagen Caddy, a 91 Toyota Soarer, some metal for a roll cage, two wheel tubs, BC Coils, a hydraulic handbrake, paint, and some Rota Grids?
Evidently a cool little truck that can slide with the best of them.
Built by TEAM HÅRDROCK somewhere in Sweden this VW/Toyota hybrid is exactly the kind of crazy I like to post on Fridays.
Info is a little sparse, and it’s not 100% finished, but all the important bits are where they need to be.

Perhaps this car and the RB25DET Passat need to get together.
All orders placed between October 27th and November 2nd have shipped today, sorry for the delay while I was off galavanting in Vegas.
Speaking of Vegas, I’ve still got more SEMA stuff and I might drop a post or two on the weekend just to keep things from dragging out too long.
Flashback Friday
While at SEMA the topic of RX-8s came up which has sent me back looking for a particular one that I have yet to find, I did however find this gem I posted back in 2010 from Victoria BC.
Now if I could only find the one I was looking for…
