Great Little Car

12

When I first saw photos of this car I thought perhaps someone had crossed a Chevette with a Pacer and stuffed a big intercooler into the front of it.

But after a quick search I learned that it is a 1977 Mazda 323, or Great Little Car as it was apparently called in North America.

Before coming across this particular one (which looks to have a boosted spinning Dorito power plant under the hood) I never really had a reason to look into these.

But now that I know they were at one point rear wheel drive I am a little bit more interested, it doesn’t hurt that this particular one looks bad ass to boot.

See the Pacer/Chevette resemblance?
I am not a rotary expert but 13b?
Even the back kind of looks like a Pacer... that is also a big fuel cell
I always thought the 323gtx was my favorite 323 but now I'm not so sure

At a reported weight of about 1800lbs stock this 323 probably went like a bat out of hell, I know these photos are a bit old but does anyone have some info on this car?

Here’s a video of another one I found on youtube in case nothing else pops up.

Happy Thanksgiving.

WTF Friday: Sweet Dreams

4

Speedhunters has deemed October street cars and sleepers month so with that in mind I present to you today’s WTF Friday find, the Cream Dream.

What’s the Cream Dream you ask?

Well in this context (I’m sure google could find a few other definitions) the Cream Dream is a 1979 Mercury Zephyr powered by an LSX motor fitted with twin T-70 turbos resulting in 8.68 quarter mile times.

Sure the lumpy cam announced by the not so quiet exhaust combined with the wheels and tires takes away from the sleeper status a little bit but these things could easily be missed at a stoplight with the windows up at night.

However once this tone on tone coupe car blows your doors all the way into the next town you would realize some tom foolery was a foot.

Certainly not a looker on the outside
But it is pretty under the hood
Homemade bead lock wheels

More info on the Cream Dream can be found on thefobody.com and Svt Performance which includes this awesome photo taken by ksphotographics.

The piping has since been painted

This post needs video:

Ford tough with Chevy stuff.

There is literally one XL black and teal shirt left in stock in the store so if you want the last of the first run T-shirts at introductory pricing head on over to the store.

I’ve also put in a huge order with Seche Media so I expect a restock of vinyl fairly soon.

In addition to eating Turkey this weekend (Canadian Thanksgiving for those out of town) I hope to get two photo shoots in, one of a friends car and one of my car and a friends car.

The weather looks good so I am hopeful it will all work out.

Flashback Friday

I want to do another BMX rider Theme Tuesday so if you ride email some photos to [email protected]. Here is a look back to the last one.

Don't think Durk still has this actually...

I also want to do something for the females so ladies if you would also like to send some photos through feel free.

Full of Vigor

7

Joey from The Chronicles recently tossed up a post called Japanese Treats where he posted a few cars from Japan including this Acura Vigor.

In that post he stated that nobody gave a crap about the Vigor in the US and now that I think about it nobody really cared about them in Canada either as I am pretty sure I have not seen one anywhere in a solid 5 years.

What’s weird is people rocked the hell out of legends (Ludacris loves his) and a lot of people are all about TLs which replaced the Vigor.

Popularity of the model aside this Vigor is dope and clearly took a a cue or two from the VIP scene.

Looking at the way this one is done up I can't really tell why they were not popular
I could see this fitting in quite nice at a VIP Styled Car meet
Got Camber?
Is it just me or do these look like Accord Tails?
Hmm... upon closer inspection maybe not
Next look or maybe previous look?

Maybe Honda should have made them rear wheel drive…

Readers Ride: Darren’s 300ZX

10

It’s hard to argue the fact that Nissan knows how to build a capable FR platform, from the original Datsuns to the latest 370z they have certainly made a name for themselves among those who prefer to be pushed rather than pulled.

The 300zx is just another example of Nissan’s capability to build a solid RWD coupe and the Z32 specifically is a car I wish I saw more of both online and in person so when Darren sent his own 2+2 by my interest was peaked.

Based in California Darren kept things pretty simple on the outside of his 300zx (the body doesn’t really need much help anyway) and focused most of his efforts towards the drive line and suspension.

Under the hood he has added a pop charger and Powertrix grounding kit in addition to a Apexi Super megaphone exhaust. While the suspension has the works thanks once again to Powertrix (coils, tension rods and strut bar).

Wheel wise he looked to stance friendly brand XXR and picked up a set of their 512’s at 18×10 all around spaced to an offset of 0.

The result of these modifications is a simple straight forward lady in red.

The full list of modifications Darren has done is below:

Exterior:

  • 4300K HID’s
  • Jspec front clear corners
  • Jspec ’99 tailights
  • Window Tint

Interior:

  • Pioneer 3800MP
  • Broadway Mirror
  • Infinity front 6.5″ component speakers

Suspension/Wheels/Brakes:

  • Powertrix Ultra Lite Coilovers
  • Powertrix Tension Rods
  • Powertrix Rear Strut Tower Bar
  • 300 Degree Brake Master Cylinder Brace
  • XXR 521 Gold 18×10 all around +25 (Effectively 0 offset with PBM 25mm spacers all around)
  • Yokohama S.Drive 245/35
  • Dunlop Direzza DZ101 255/35

Engine/Drivetrain:

  • Pop Charger
  • Apexi Super Megaphone Exhaust
  • Powertrix Grounding Kit
  • SS Clutch Line
  • Short Shifter

Thanks for the submission Darren.

Theme Tuesdays: Best of the Fast & Furious

9

So my friend Josh is to thank blame for today’s Theme Tuesday. I actually had a different one 90% complete then we got talking about the Fast and The Furious franchise and next thing you know I am spending my lunch hour collecting images of the cars I liked from all of the movies.

This list is probably a little different than Josh thought it would turn out because my ‘classic American cars are awesome’ bias is clearly showing for a good portion of this post.

10 second car.
Tweak the height and the width/offset of these wheels and these replica GT3RS's could make another Theme Tuesday
Even hiding out from the DEA Brian's gotta roll a skyline
I don't really enjoy a lot of Tokyo Drift (thanks Bow Wow), but I did enjoy this car in the beginning... before it was rolled anyway
I wonder if this Veliside RX-7 was the inspiration for the Meguair's Challenge winning car
All the stunt cars were so damn high
Takashi's 350z
Brian's taste in cars improved greatly as the movies went on
EJECTO SEATO CUZZZ
This Nissan powered fastback was equally loved and equally hated by people on both sides of the fence
If I recall this Gran Torino wasn't in Fast and Furious long but it was in there...
When this showed up in Fast Five I was stoked. I love these
Chosing the LFA was almost too easy
GNX seems more like a villain car but I guess Dom is an anti-hero
When I saw this truck in the trailer of Fast and Furious I was immediately more interested
These 80s crew cabs were not all movie magic just makes them even more amazing
502 big blocks under the hood apparently gave these the ability to "drift like a Nissan Z car"
The F-bomb replicas were also pretty cool
But when you are replicating perfection it's hard to go wrong
You had to know I wouldn't end this with any other car.

Guest Coverage: West Coast Nationals 2011

2

Tucson native Will Watrous has once again graced Stance Is Everything with an awesome set of photos from the West Coast Nationals. It’s been a little bit since I had heard from Will so it was good to see that he’s still riding low and hitting up events in his Ranger.

The WCN coverage he sent over this year looks just as good, if not better than last year, so if I ever do somehow get a travel budget WCN is an event I must attend.

With my love of minitrucks I’m pretty sure I would be right at home.

One of a small number of bagged Mazda 3s
I'd bet this can hop something fierce
This photo stood out to me instantly, the articulation here is pretty damn impressive
Clean two pump setup gives the previous car a leg up
This truck is the definition of custom, parts from everywhere
Looks great and might just be tuckin' lugs
I'm working on a bagged dually/full size Theme Tuesday, look out for it in the next few weeks
Dub-nation's Project MK6
Tucking Fifteen52 tarmac's hard
This truck is crazy, tucking that much of such a huge rim takes as much (if not more) skill as running flush
When tucking this hard things must be relocated
Straight sinister
This cars got the perfect amount of chrome work to compliment the satin paint
Lovin' how nice this truck looks in flat smurf blue
Girls getting in on the fun
Glass etching... lost art?
Sick looking 4 door Blazer
69(?) Suburban that's already a head turner
If this truck look so good now, finished is going to be incredible
Another very impressive looking W.I.P.
Damn check out what made it's way into the engine bay
I have been a fan of this truck since I saw it at SEMA, simple clean build
This truck also looks absolutely flawless
One hell of a lift kit...
Paint and bodywork taken to a whole 'nother level
Paint work continues to the inside
Golf carts, an infinite source of amusement

Check out more West Coast Nationals 2011 coverage here on Will’s flickr account.

Thanks again to Will for hooking up the photos.

Random Dopeness: Volume 7

2

The rain kind of put a kibosh on some of the plans I had today so I’ve been re organizing and backing up photos I have taken as well as ones I have found online and figured it would be a good time to do another round of Random Dopeness.

Speedline FilmWerks also sent over their latest video in the Wuste 2011 series which is just as good as their last effort which the sent by last week.

Be sure to check both out at the end of this post.

@neon_mdr on twitter sends me the craziest stuff
Hopefully I get a chance to mess around with some autumn photos this year
Awesome Rivera and perspective here
Cars like this are why so many enthusiasts make the trip to Japan
This picture looks old which means the owner/builder of this car was an originator
So wish I had high res... desktop material
Yes, this a dumpster car
I'm still split on NSXs with stretched rubber, this one looks sick no question though
This car is beside the word awesome in the dictionary
Caged, Recaro, Low...
End the pics with a very traditional Rod

And the latest in the Wuste 2011 videos from Speedline Filmwerks :

and last weeks:

WTF Friday: Go Baby Go

2

I’m not even sure what to say about this car, it’s not shiny, it’s not pretty, and it’s not even all that low but it is straight up crazy which is why I am posting it today.

The creation below appears to be a barn find Ford sedan merged with the motor (Cummins turbo Diesel), transmission, wheels, brakes, and suspension of a much larger vehicle.

I wish I could provide more information on this four wheeled terror but I’ve got nothing.

All I can say is that it was spotted in Orange, Massachusetts at the Orange Airport Drag Strip Reunion. If anyone from Mass has more info feel free…

So you see this in your rear view mirror and what do you do?
Hell of a lot of motor
Not pretty but all business
It's even got a place for your drink!

Spotted on Phoebe Goes Vroom photo credits there too.

Site Updates

The biggest news this week is that the new teal on charcoal shirts are in and they look fantastic. They are $20 each and available in sizes from S-XL (Gildan). I have also been able to reduce shipping costs within Canada to $8 while us shipping is $10 and international is $15.

Over the next few weeks I am going to try different sized envelopes and some creative folding to hopefully bring shipping costs down further.

Event wise I won’t be at anything car related but there are two big events going on this weekend outside of the GTA area.

The first is Importfest Montreal and the second is Liberty Black 2 flyers below.

Flashback Friday

I’ve been watching a lot of Teletoon Retro lately which remind me of this creation I posted in a WTF Friday February 2010.

I find some weird stuff...

Might be doing a shoot this weekend so don’t be surprised if a few teasers show up on the fan page.

Man On The Moon

17

You know those cars you see unfinished that make you think ‘damn that should look proper when it’s done’?

Then once they are finished all you have to go on are cellphone photos and word of mouth stating:  ‘man you really have to see it in person‘.

Well this is one of those cars, and while I have still yet to see it in person from what I have heard and the fact it’s a CHOPSHOP car I know I won’t be disappointed when I do.

This build had it’s fair share of setbacks (including getting pulled over first night out) but now that it’s survived its first road test to Western NY and back (for Honda Tech) all of that is water under the bridge.

Humble beginnings
Finished product
Incredible gloss on that fresh paint
Money shot
Widened rear quarters turned out perfect
Specs are 16x7.5 +14 and 16x9 -13
I'm sure we can all agree that this car was worth the two year wait

Simply remarkable. I wonder how many double takes it caused from Ontario to NY?

You can check out the build thread for this car here and keep up with rest of the CHOPSHOP projects at chopshoponline.ca

Event Coverage: CSCS Finale 2011 Part: Two

4

The last round of CSCS passing means that a lot of the cars in today’s post will be tucked away for the winter very soon.

A few might make their way to Importfest Montreal but the rest will either be converted back to winter mode, stored, or go under the knife for rebuilds.

With that in mind I made sure to do a few laps of the show and shine Sunday just to make sure I got some photos of some of the more attention grabbing cars.

Stickers and Stuff

Before I jump right into the cars here are a few stickers and random things I spotted including a dog and a Tiburon covered in 15 layers of Plasti Dip which evidently turns it into a giant chalk board.

This modified society crown is pretty cool
This Sittin' pretty sticker was a nice combination of script and sans serif fonts
Adam rocking the Purple and Teal color sticker chosen by Erik
Stoked to see Javed still rocking the black and gold
It's been a long time since I have written with chalk...
This dog decided walking was way over rated

Other cars

Don't often seen Bentleys at show and shine events
This Lotus probably would have been more at home on the road course
One day I'll have to come up to Cayuga for a drag event and see cars like this run
Business end

Domestics

I have not seen something so 'under construction' at a show in a long time
Sic's new tow pig
I bet the side pipes on this spark like crazy
I can't imagine the aftermarket for these is huge so kudos to the owner for sticking with
Erik was around for the earlier part of the show and shine
His turbo setup seems to be treating him well
The CSCS parking lot... not so much

Nissan

So Fresh Auto Maxima
Very aggressive Skyline
Te37 SL's are getting quite popular and look really nice on this GTR

Hyundai, Mazda, Mitsubishi

I think this is an Elantra (or Accent?).... cutting all the cf for the splitter probably wasn't easy
The rear is pretty wild to match what was going on up front
Miata with some eye makeup
Limited myself to one picture of Carsons Evo

Subaru

Ty's STI is still for sale
Lownatics brought a couple cars out
Hot as hell...

Audi, BMW

The body work on this Audi was pretty flawless, molded front bumper is brave
Sam from WP Pro Brakes brought out his e39
Blacked out boosted e46 cab
Not all that much room in e46 engine bays
M - Tricks wide body 2002
While the bronze lips are quite nice I think I preferred the polished lips

Toyota/Scion

C west Supra
Clean bay
"You'll blow yourself to pieces!"
Quite a few Scion's at this round, I paid the most attention to the XBs
The hood and emblem on this one are pretty cool
Last time I saw Adam's Scion was in dim light tired at Importfest, seeing it more alert I noticed how nice it really is
The air ride makes a considerable difference when compared to that yellow one
You may have noticed I am a fan of his trunk setup

Honda

Javed's boosted EL out front of the Street Concepts booth
Level One near the Meguairs Canada Setup
This car was actually competing in a few track events not the show and shine
Matt added 'moar low' since his feature and was parked at the AMF booth
Also at the AMF booth...
Nice Prelude
On the way to CSCS I passed a traffic slowage that turned out to be this car along with a few others pulled over
Dope Spoon equipped EK
Tidy engine bay too
P-Dizzles Civic was up for sale earlier in the year good to see he kept it
Wonder if he will make any changes over the winter....

Congrats to the CSCS team for another season and letting me do some give-aways over the course of the season. Count down to next year begins now…
