WTF Friday: The Silver Shadow

4

When it comes to large luxury automobiles brands such as Maybach, Bentley, and Rolls Royce I can’t really relate to them. Mostly because I am not exceedingly wealthy and I’m not the type of person to be driven around, hell I have only ever been in a limo once.

However this Rolls Royce Silver Shadow, which is a few years old now, I can relate to because it’s a Hemi powered 1350HP beast which the owner goes out and runs it down the track between show appearances

It’s also got a leather wrapped roll cage and lots of TV’s to watch for the passengers on those fuel stop filled road trips since this car only gets four miles per gallon.

How many Rolls can do this?
572 cubic inches of get you there on time
Installed in lots of get your there in style
The interior work on this car is incredible.
Really like the choice in color
The aformentioned wrapped cage can be seen here
I need 2 bottles, the big ones

More of the vital info on this car can be found Little Joe’s Rod Shop.

Stickers, stickers, stickers.

I am going to be working on two new winter sticker designs over the next couple days and will have a contest announcement early next week with 3 possible sticker packs to be one thanks to SecheMedia.ca.

Just in time for Christmas!

Flashback Friday

Going to take it back a local e36 I know are in storage right now from a post titled “This is how it’s done

Style 5's still kil it

If you are interested Kurt is also building an m3 track car which you can follow on maxbimmer.com

The Loud Pedal

0

On the way home last night from hockey at around 12:30am my new skid plate hit the ground hard which knocked it 80% off and resulted in some road side hockey tape mechanics and a very, very, slow drive home to where I removed it for modification at a later date.

As a result I am quire tired today and my brain is a mess so I decided to keep things simple: The loud pedal, press it and things get awesome here are 5 examples.

To the floor
I really hope this is a real m3
Wonder how much of this kit was left after the day was done
Don't need no stinkin wheelie bar
Relevant to yesterdays discussion

Multiple Theme Tuesday ideas in this post as well, will have to reffer to it next time I need ideas.

I am going to find some place to nap.

Winter Wednesdays: A new winter begins

6

The last Winter Wednesday was in March 2010 which was quite some time of ago, so long in fact that some of you may not even know what Winter Wednesdays around here are.

The concept is simple on any Wednesday within a 7 day span of snow accumulation in the Mississauga/Toronto area of Ontario, Canada I will post up a lowered car in the snow.

The snow fall this week was pretty sparse so here is a picture of a Golf and a Jetta sitting on top of a moderate dusting of snow.

Judging by the coverage I would say the Jetta sees more winter use

If you would like to contribute to Winter Wednesdays feel free to send your photos in to [email protected] or add them to the facebook fan page.

Who’s got more balls?

12

Rally racing is one hell of an automotive sport. Elevation and road surface changes are par for the course and when combined with unpredictable weather, driver fatigue, blind corners, and lots of horsepower you are left with an spectacular participant and spectator sport.

However you are also left with a question:
Who’s got more balls?
The drivers running the course, or the spectators on the course?

Is a great shot worth no legs? Hmmm

and because this subject needs video evidence:
(specifically at about 1:53)

Theme Tuesdays: E30s Part II

5

I can’t believe I have only done one e30 Theme Tuesday prior to this. As a former owner and current member of a number of  BMW/E30 forums this is down right shameful.

Not to mention that the the e30 is such a classic and versatile chassis, they look great dumped and kitted on low offset wheels, but also respond great to functional modifications when let loose on the track.

Lets have a look at some from both camps function and form.

Diving boards

Say what you will about these bumpers I think if you know what you are doing you can pull them off. The early chassis also has the larger rear arch to it’s benefit as well.

Of course I am impartial… 😉

Diving boards are all about how you work em
This could be an owners manual shot
Early rear arches FTW
Type A's look the best flat capped, or no cap at all, don't like the other caps much
Love everything about this.
This car might be my new favorite early drop
This car is quite a few years old now, can't remember how he did it, but it's real copper

Non diving board equipped

Of course I have nothing against the later models either…

17 inch Alpinas look great on this sedan
Mtech II on a unique set of BBS wheels
Great pair, actually epic pair. Mtech I or II take your pick
Want.
Rob's e30
Ben's Touring is sick, thanks for adding it to the fanpage
Simple and clean 5 lugged swapped coupe
Beaut.

Track

Never underestimate an e30 on the track.

Chris at one of the last drift events of the year
More early model love
Hunting in packs
Well that is one what course
Posted this before? Perhaps...
That front fender has sure got a lot of pull
All the reasons I sold this car seem trivial now
and I will end things off with something I could have posted last week...

Built for a purpose

6

This car is easily one of my favorite EG’s in the area. I followed the initial build closely on jdmrides.ca (actually the main reason I joined the site) and have continued to watch the car evolve from daily driver/track car to track car/daily driver as the years have gone by.

Over the winter Spenser plans to do even more function oriented work to the car so that next year it’s even more of a contender out on the Shannonville Track.

Ready for business
While the J's wing isn't for everyone it is functional on the track
Rolling shots ftw

If you are wondering why he has Kosei K-1s up front but not in the rear it’s because the way the car is set up know handles better than if it was setup to fit the K-1s and since both sets of wheels are light he decided to rock that.

In the fog

4

Almost any car that I choose to post after an intense two weeks of SEMA coverage is bound to look pretty tame so instead of putting someone’s ride directly up against all those high dollar, very sick, builds I figured I might as well put mine up first.

These pics were taken by my girlfriend about two weeks ago, the night before I converted my ride to winter mode, and now looking back at them I have realized just how long of a winter it is going to be 🙁

Axe murder scene right here
I have yellow fog overlays which I guess do nothing for the output
'Twas the night before wintermode

and now….

Lip off, rims off, steelies on, height same
Our first accumulation here in Mississauga, melted soon after

Next season the only change aesthetically will be new wheels at 18×8 and around 38 to 32 offset. I want something a bit more aggressive but nothing I have to be too worried about driving on a daily basis around here.

My current wheels would stick around for track days/ auto-x if I can finally get my sorry self out to one.

WTF Friday: Nothing rides like a Deere

2

Some weeks I have a general idea about what I am going to post on Friday but other weeks, like this one, I have absolutely no idea. Thankfully the internet is a wealth of completely random and strange vehicle based things so I never really run a big risk of coming up with nothing.

After checking out a few of my local haunts I found a picture of this John Deere tractor/tryke and became intrigued so after a quick round on the Google monster I found another pic.

This John Deere trike isn’t the first of it’s kind that I have seen, however it is the first I have seen that seems to be made from an actual, once functional, John Deere Tractor and not painted to look as such.

These particular pictures are from the Sturgis bike rally in 2009 but I have seen smaller pictures of it from 2010 so I assume it is still around.

I’m kind of interested to know how fast it goes and how much work went into it.

Anyone have a build thread?

How is this registered I wonder?
She must end up with lots of bug in her hair

Site Updates

Now that SEMA is done I’ll be working on some of the other ideas I’ve had kicking around in my head. There has been a lot of interest lately from a number of potential sponsors which I will be getting back to over the weekend.

Some of which are willing to contribute some stuff for more giveaways so I should have some more free stuff for you guys to win in the next couple weeks.

Sorry I don’t have any sort of Black Friday sale going like everyone else but it kind of snuck up on me. However things are always cheap in the store and you can make the purchases in your underwear.

Flashback Friday

We got snow today, no accumulation yet but before you know it Winter Wednesdays will return, here is a goody from last year

Low all year.

Event Coverage: SEMA Part 8

1

Well, I’ve finally reached what is going to be the end of the 2010 SEMA coverage. Hopefully you guys have enjoyed all of the coverage as much as I have enjoyed posting it. I hope after seeing these photos you are now devising a way to get to next years show as I think it’s something every enthusiast should try and get out to.

As much I have tried to share here it’s really, really, hard to explain what it’s like until you’ve been, I’ve never been so exhausted from taking in so much automotive eye candy.

Today is a continuation of yesterdays outdoor coverage and actually has the cars I saw earliest in the week.

‘Explore Adventure’ FJ

This really trick tear drop camper was being pulled by a nice FJ Cruiser. This camper trailer was a lot different than the ones I am used to seeing as those ones normally smell like the 70s, or at least what I assume the 70s smelled like…

This would make one hell of a BMX road trip rig
Inside was this very dope kitchen setup
Great carpentry throughout
I once read a build thread on one of these, I should find it and share

Imports and Euros

One thing that sort of struck me as odd at SEMA was the small amount of Volkswagens, today’s post doesn’t change that or anything it’s just a general observation.

This bagged 7 was recently featured on Speedhunters
Clean A3 Wagon.
Check out the detailing on this trunk lid, oh and the bottle.
Drift sled from Team Hybrid
Several other people at the show would disagree 😛
Subtle yet aggressive wide body Evo
Never seen a bike stand like this before.
This Lex was tucked away near some 4x4s
Sick looking IS on Airrunner suspension
Tucked

Boxes

Lots of Scion presence outside of the main hall of SEMA, now that Scions are available in Canada I expect there to be a lot more modified ones in my area.

CF flares, skirts, and lip. Brave!
A box from the Phaze 2 camp
Flush.
If flush isn't your thing how about some tuck?
Self explanatory

More Minitrucks

The bagged trucks just don’t stop.

Clean s10 to start things off that is tuckin lugs...
Nice bed setup, though I wonder why the compressors were not under mounted
Another very detailed paint job, right down to the rims
My love for Minitrucks and SEMA was a match made in heaven
Colorado on what look to be blacked out Escalade wheels
Slammed Armada
It had a pretty interesting suspension set up, unlike most trucks I have seen
This truck kind of confused me but I think it's an early s10 Blazer under there
I'm basing that solely the window hinges and roof line
A few things still needed to be straightened out on this dualie but it sat great
This has as many bags in the rear as some trucks do all around
Smooth ass end to finish things off
This very clean GMC would be my choice of the bunch
Clean bed set up, you could still haul a little in there?
I'm a fan of painted emblems when done well
and these were done well

Classics

This was pretty interesting it's a Ford body, more or less, on a Suburban chassis with a 350 under the hood
Remember when wood panel cars earned you a shot in the arm?
Mighty fine looking Chevelle I missed from the other day
This car belonged on the strip
Big ol Impala with lots of chrome
What went in the trunks that the tires had to be stored Continental style?
Clean Impala on Accuair suspension
Very nice bay
Beautiful and streetable wagon
Nova on big ol Forged wheels
I really like the shaved, de-chromed, painted, bumpers
Diiiish
Bitchin 50s Chevy
With great Scallops and pin striping
Making up for the lack of new Camaros with old today
SEMA engine bay shots have been well received
Beauty RS
Swapped.

That’s it and that’s all. Hopefully I can go again next year and figure out what the heck is going on with this thing…

I guess this is one way to work on the motor eh?

I’m off now, to my American readers Happy Thanksgiving and thank you for visiting!

SEMA Showstopper: Gold Mines

6

The last two cars I will be posting as Showstoppers from the 2010 SEMA show are cars that I had to revisit a number of times in order to get clear photos due to the fact that each had sizable crowds gawking virtually any time I passed by.

Both of these cars lie somewhere between show and street-able in the sense that the owners probably drive both of them quite a bit but wouldn’t dare risk daily driving as getting into a fender bender with one of these would be a travesty.

1939 LaSalle Couple

The first car is a beautiful 1939 LaSalle built by Dominator Street Rods.

Not much was really available in way of information about this car at the show, and the internet has only revealed to me the following things:

  • The current owner, Bill West, has owned it for the past 20 years
  • It has a super charged Northstar power plant
  • It was built to be driven

I suppose I will just let the photos fill in the rest:

Great design looks good for a long time.
The lines of this car lend themselves well to the raked stance
This picture is a little fuzzy but still captures the smoothness of this car for lack of a better word
The front end of this car really interested me with the extensive grill work

Joe Brown’s 1967 Ford Mustang

Joe Brown, aka Hot Rod Joe of Hot Rod Joes Rod and Custom brought his 1967 Mustang to SEMA and I thought it was a perfect match for a post with the LaSalle above.

Joe’s Stang is powered by a Supercharged SVT Cobra motor which no doubt makes gobs of power and is a lot of fun to bang through all 6 gears.

While it’s virtually impossible to tell from the pictures this car has got a full tube chassis and custom suspension setup.

Also in order to get those big rear wheels to fit in the arches at it’s new ride height the rear wheel openings were tastefully modified so that they didn’t take too much away from the intended lines of the car.

This car was incredibly clean all throughout and always had a big crowd around it.

The size of those rear wheels is hid well thanks to the reworked fenders
It killed me not to include this shot in the 'Dat Ass' Theme Tuesday
Lots of time was spent under the hood to make it look this good
That super charged SVT motor sure fills the engine bay up
The car has fully independent suspension but I do not know if it's static or not.

Hope you enjoyed this pairing, I’ll be back later tonight with the last set of 50 photos from SEMA 2010.
