WTF Friday: Hemischmitt

7

The Messerschmitt KR200 is what happens when an aircraft company can’t make planes so they create a “bubble” car similar to the BMW Isetta and other post World War II German vehicles.

Truth be told the Messerschmitt is not a vehicle that I’ve paid a lot of attention too, I’ve just gleaned a bit of information here or there about them watching random car shows on Velocity or Speed when it was still around.

Usually cars that fall in that category don’t make it here on the site, however, big motor-small package-odd car is a WTF Friday recipe for success.

siemobilelogohemischmitt3

A far cry from the 191cc motor the KR200 was originally fit with the Chrysler Hemi v8 wouldn’t work with the factory chassis so it was binned (presumably with much of the floor) for a chassis of currently unknown origin. The front axle looks to be from an air-cooled but really it’s anyone’s best guess at this point

hemischmitt2

Information about this car is sparse at best, but, I have no doubt WTF was uttered when the Allison and Sherman drag race rolled this Messerschmitt up to the line and then subsequently left the competition in the dust.

Folklore has it this car blew up but maybe, just maybe, it is in a barn somewhere waiting to be found.

Seat Of Your Pants Engineering: Bob Ward’s Turbo Diesel ’52 GMC

2

About a year ago I received an email from then stranger Bob Ward, asking if I would be interested in shooting his project ’52 GMC 9700. Inside the email Bob included a few images along with a link to his build thread on 67-72trucks.com.

After giving the thread a quick skim –I’ve since read it several times in its entirety– I let Bob know I’d love to shoot the truck as soon as he deemed it ‘ready’.

turbo-diesel-1952-gmc-9700-holset-8

About a year later the truck was ready for the road, and on the day of the shoot I could hear Bob approach long before his truck pulled into view, once it did it was hard to ignore the presence this truck has on the road.

A former City of Woodstock Pumper #1 fire truck, Bob’s GMC was originally a 3 ton which means it has a larger front end than it’s smaller counterparts, but more typical proportions than a cab over of the same year.

This larger front end, combined with the visor give the truck a really intimidating look head on.

turbo-diesel-1952-gmc-9700-9600-4

Before coming to a complete stop, Bob gave the loud pedal a few quick stabs causing diesel smoke to roll out of the exhaust tip just fore of passenger side rear wheels.

turbo-diesel-1952-gmc-9700-dually

Yeah, the 6″ exhaust tip isn’t big just to be big, but rather the only visual cue that this truck is powered but diesel not gas.

The story of how an International 7.3 liter diesel motor ended up under the hood of this truck is one of coincidence and a generous neighbor.

turbo-diesel-1952-gmc-9700-holset-4

Bob purchased and stripped the truck about six and a half years before he really got into it, and in that time he had built the truck in the garage of his mind several times over. Every time the truck ran through his dreams it did so with diesel power so the real truck had to be diesel powered as well.

turbo-diesel-1952-gmc-9700-holset-3

As luck would have it when time came to build the truck for real his neighbor popped his head into the garage and asked if Bob could find use for the motor, transmission and rear end of the Ford E series van he kept in his driveway for storage.

turbo-diesel-1952-gmc-9700-holset-2

Since a free, complete, operational, power plant is hard to turn down Bob rolled with the less than typical hot rod motor choice. Because he now no longer had to budget for buying a motor he decided to throw a little boost into the mix to keep things interesting.

turbo-diesel-1952-gmc-9700-holset-1

The International motor has since seen a few upgrades to accommodate the Holset HX35 turbo including; arp head studs and Fel-Pro gaskets.

He also gave the motor a good scrub down and a lick of paint while he was at it.

turbo-diesel-1952-gmc-9700-1

For underpinnings Bob’s truck is similar to many bagged Advanced Desgins in that it rests on a S10 chassis. This is proven approach to quickly update the front suspension of the truck and bring it to the ground.

Out back Bob designed the double triangulated four link back half himself. The size of the dually rear wheels made things a bit of a challenge but not one Bob couldn’t overcome with what he calls “Seat Of Your Pants Engineering”.

turbo-diesel-1952-gmc-9700-bed-open

The chassis is actually somewhere between a long box and a short box in length, which necessitated custom bed sides so that the truck looked visually correct from the side.

Bob of course built those bedsides himself.

turbo-diesel-1952-gmc-9700-9600-3

The 300(!!) pound Dana 70 rear end was fit with a 4:10 locker and Moser axles before being narrowed so Bob could retain the dually wheels without radically modifying the rear fenders.

That said he did end up modifying the rear fenders somewhat, taking 3 inches off the bottom to get the truck air out just right
turbo-diesel-1952-gmc-9700-6 turbo-diesel-1952-gmc-9700-tailgate turbo-diesel-1952-gmc-9700-9600-5

For the exterior Bob wanted the cab tight and weather proof so he had it sand blasted. After fixing a few rust outs, and shaving the door handles the cab was primed black and sprayed in matte clear.

The hood, fenders, and visor however were all in good enough shape to leave untouched. To preserve the natural patina Bob had the various shades of red, and hand painted lettering covered in matte clear as well.

turbo-idl-51-gmc-pinstriping-3up

Too add a little personality to the truck Bob let his friend Adam, of Pett’s pinstriping, have his way with the visor fenders, and cab.

turbo-diesel-1952-gmc-9700-dually-2

The wheel tire set up is standard dually out back, and s10 zq8 package wheels up front. Because the truck isn’t light by any stretch — clocking in at around 5000lbs– Bob upgraded the factory s10 front brakes to Wilwood units so they could bring the truck to a halt in a reasonable amount of time.

turbo-diesel-1952-gmc-9700-7

turbo-idl-51-gmc-wheelAfter all was said and done Bob wasn’t left with a lot of bed space so he crafted a one piece raised wood bed floor, and decorated it with various road signs and a metal representation of his french bulldog Tiger.

turbo-diesel-1952-gmc-9700-bed turbo-diesel-1952-gmc-9700-dog

Inside, Bob modified the floor to fit the giant automatic transmission before spraying it in Lizard Skin.
turbo-diesel-1952-gmc-9700-interior The dash and door jambs were originally meant to be a metallic grey but to his surprise a metallic brown came out of the paint gun. Bob quickly became fond of the color, particularly in the sun, and dubbed it ‘burnt root beer’.

turbo-diesel-1952-gmc-9700-dash2up

Capping off his interior are gauges to monitor his air pressure, rpms and boost. A Quick 1 shift controller allows Bob to shift the auto transmission manually which he does through a shifter topped off with an ornate beer tap handle.

turbo-diesel-1952-gmc-9700-boost-gauge turbo-diesel-1952-gmc-9700-speedometer turbo-diesel-1952-gmc-9700-shifter

Since getting the truck on the road Bob’s proclivity for towing and burnouts necessitated a transmission rebuild. Tri City transmissions handled the rebuild replacing all the soft parts with new ones, as well as throwing some additional automatic transmission voodoo into the mix.

turbo-diesel-1952-gmc-9700-brake-light

Bob thanks his wife, and boys for supporting him through the build process along with his painter Joe, and of course neighbor who gave him the motor.

He’s promised them all a chance to drive the truck at some point, but for this year it’s Bob’s turn to put some miles on the truck. I’d say he’s earned it!

Theme Tuesdays: Import Powered Hot Rods

2

I’ve never really bought into the idea that a car of any type “should” have one particular motor or another. I feel that the motor choice is solely up to the owner, and while there might be more standard, easier, cheaper and convenient options I admire those who go the extra mile to be creative or use a motor they had on hand.

Some people might disagree with the motor choice in the end, but ultimately hot rodding is about using what you’ve got on hand to make something better and unique. That and a lot of loud noises and tire smoke.

Today’s Theme Tuesday celebrates those who have broken the unwritten rules by using Japanese motors in their American hot rod builds.

WTF Friday: The Heart Wants What It Wants

2

There are a lot of cars that don’t seem to have a huge aftermarket following, but when they do show up modified there appears to be no middle ground, all or nothing. I would place first generation w body cars (and to a point most w bodies) in that category.

W body owners will likely disagree, but I’ve never really seen these cars mildly modified, usually they are supercharged bagged and full of audio or simple daily drivers. In the handful of W bodies that stick out in my mind none have been quite as heavily modified as this one.

oldsmobilewb5

If looking at the picture above all you see is a wrap, flares, and racing seats (aka the standard 2016 ‘game killer’ package) you would be right, and wrong.

Note: If you’re looking at the photo above and see a diving board e30 IS air damn then good on ya fellow e30 nerd.

oldsmobilewb4

With the hood popped you can clearly see that this car is much, much, more than just a visual endeavor. The motor is a L67 with 8.5:1 compression Intense Racing s3 cam, forged pistons, fortified wrist pins, new rings, ARP hardware throughout the entire thing, ported heads and of course a T-72 ceramic coated turbocharger.

oldsmobilewb7 oldsmobiblewb3

This is all mated to a Getrag 282 5 speed transmission that has been rebuilt and fit with a stage 3 clutch and F-body flywheel. The builder/owner/seller says that the combination is good for up to 600 horsepower but states that it needs a professional tune so it has not seen a dyno yet.

oldsmobilewb6
oldsmobilewb9
oldsmobilewb8

The suspension consists of A1 coils all around, and up front behind the Corvette wheels sit C6 z06 brakes, Gen3 w-body brakes are in the rear and the ABS system has taken a permanent holiday.

oldsmobilewb10

The car is a project, so it isn’t quite finished but it does run and has survived trips around the block and a few launches.

Things on the list to be completed are the fuel system, wiring, and the aforementioned tuning. Sound appealing to you? Then take a trip out to Orlando with $5500 and pick up a unique project that actually doesn’t look to bad, considering the base chassis.

One Low Fargo

0

A few weeks back I took the family out to the Tottenham Classic Car & Truck show. Held at the Tottenham conservation area, which is a wicked venue with a great beach, event coverage quickly slipped to the bottom of my priority list as the day went on.

However before I did put the camera down for good I took a few photos that will make their way onto the site as small photo features with the first being this Dodge Fargo.

tottenham-classic-carshow-dodge-fargo-4

A ’56, if I’m not mistaken this truck was a favourite among the crow usually surrounded by a circle of curious on lookers. It took a few trips back but I was able to get a brief window where I could look at the truck and snap a few photos that were mostly free of people.

tottenham-classic-carshow-dodge-fargo-3The hood emblem was pretty unique and the engine bay had been given a bit of polish but nothing too crazy that it wasn’t befitting of the exterior

tottenham-classic-carshow-dodge-fargo-5Inside the engine bay was also an engine driven compressor for the air ride, EDC’s are quite a bit more efficient but not nearly as commonly used as their electric counterparts.

tottenham-classic-carshow-dodge-fargo-2tottenham-classic-carshow-dodge-fargo-1

The truck was on the ground naturally and tucked a lot of wheel all around.

tottenham-classic-carshow-dodge-fargo-6

In the bed of the truck sat a Cadillac push car modeled after the owner’s other vehicle at the show. I’ve got a few more pictures of that to get to at a later date.

Event Coverage: Formula Drift True North

0

Canada’s unofficial, yet undisputed, house of drift is Autodrome St-Eustache so when Formula Drift comes to Canada its the only venue event considered.

After a demo in 2014, and a World Round in 2015, 2016 marked the first year that the US Formula drift series held an official points round here in Canada.

IMG_9892 DSC_0383

Dubbed True North, this event was hopefully the first of many to come where Canadians get to see Formula Drift competitors from the US series compete for the finals without crossing the border.

forumula-drift-canada-2016-rd-3-crowd-2forumula-drift-canada-2016-rd-3-crowd

Since this was a points round anyone in the running for championship points came out including Dean Kearne, Chris Foresberg, Mad Mike, Ryan Tuerck, Vaughn Gittin Jr, and Fredric Aasbø to name a humble few.
forumula-drift-canada-2016-rd-3-autograph-session-3forumula-drift-canada-2016-rd-3-autograph-session-1forumula-drift-canada-2016-rd-3-autograph-session-4forumula-drift-canada-2016-rd-3-drivers-meeting

If that wasn’t enough there was also a Formula Drift Canada event held on the Friday, and since it rained pretty heavily the finals for that were moved to the Saturday as well.

With two grids to get through, and torrential downpours to avoid, the track was essentially never cold between practice, qualifying and top 32 competition.

Those people in the stands, a few scrolls up, who brought their tents and camped out were perhaps the smartest in the whole venue because for everyone else it was a long day in the hot July sun.

forumula-drift-canada-2016-rd-3-tuerck-2forumula-drift-canada-2016-rd-3-tuerck-1 IMG_0184

Leading up to the event their was a lot of contempt towards the Formula Drift series, and a lot of ill words had been said about judging, politics, this, that and the third.

However this event was simply all about hard-driving consistency and style something many criticize that the series for lacking.

forumula-drift-canada-2016-rd-3-wang3forumula-drift-canada-2016-rd-3-dean-kearneyforumula-drift-canada-2016-rd-3-drift-3Heck even @formuladerp didn’t have anything negative to say about this round, which is huge considering he –or they– slay pretty much any drift event at any time these days.

As day turned into night, and the track was shut down for the day, the party and smoke (tire and otherwise) just moved to the campground where people stayed up until the sun arose once more.

But before this post goes too Formula Drift after dark, let us bring things back to the track.

forumula-drift-canada-2016-rd-3-tuerck-1-(2)Drake who covered this round a long with Julian Dzialoszynski, is a Miata owner so naturally he paid a special mind to the Miatas in the venue.

forumula-drift-canada-2016-rd-3-rain-4IMG_9390

The Miata to see was of course Mad Mike Whiddett’s turbo 4 rotor “RADBULL”.

forumula-drift-canada-2016-rd-3-mad-mike-motor

Mike smashed the wall pretty hard in qualifying which meant his pit crew had to work extra hard to get his car back out just in time for his second qualifying run.

forumula-drift-canada-2016-rd-3-mad-mike-1 forumula-drift-canada-2016-rd-3-mad-mike-pits forumula-drift-canada-2016-rd-3-mad-mike-pits-2

With it being such a hot weekend a hat tip has to be given to all of the pit crews for keeping the cars on the road all weekend long.

I’m sure drowning in a puddle of sweat under a car isn’t exactly the best way to spend a weekend.

forumula-drift-canada-2016-rd-3-heat

Suffering in a race suit isn’t all that great either, but if there’s one good thing that comes with the hot weather it’s that the models need to dress appropriately to avoid heat stroke and dehydration.

IMG_0090IMG_0085DSC_0781

Like any drift event carnage was unavoidable and the weekend left a few cars battered, bruised, and just plain broken.

With irresponsible Mustang drivers accosting pedestrians world-wide Justin pawlak and Vaugn Gittin JR. have had an uphill battle restoring people’s faith in the pony car.

IMG_0034IMG_0226

Being consummate professionals of course they kept their cars between the walls and away from the crowds.

As the Top 32 whittled itself down the ‘great 8’ shaped itself into a listing of Forrest Wang vs Odi Bakchis and Coffman Vs Aasbø on one side, and Turerck Vs Foresberg and Vaugh Gittin Jr. vs Yoshiara on the other side.

IMG_0197IMG_0049forumula-drift-canada-2016-rd-3-wang

Foresberg left it all on the line to make it through his battle with Tureck eventually moving on to face Aasbø in the finals.

IMG_9811IMG_0169IMG_0348

Vaughn Gittin beat Dai Yoshihara and Odi bested Forest.

IMG_0281IMG_0287

In the end it was Aasbøand Forsberg who squared off for the final battle, with Aasbø and his rock solid consistent driving taking him to the podium.

Foresberg took the second spot and Odi Bakchis ended up third.

IMG_0390

As much as I’d like to be able to make Canadian Formula Drift stops every year it just isn’t possible for me, so I’m glad that I can depend on Drake to head to the track and get some great coverage.

Here are a few more photos from this round and you can follow the rest of the series at Formulad.com!

WTF Friday: I Used To Be With “It”

3

I used to be with “it”, but then they changed what “it” was, now what I am with isn’t “it”, and what is “it” seems weird and scary to me.

That quote, which itself is pretty old, is from Abe Grandpa Simpson and adequately describes my reaction when I saw what cgod_zak is working on.

Taking the 3 piece up-sized “Sudani” lip truck (putting a larger diameter step lip on to a wheel to create the illusion of a massive unsafe stretch) to the next level he’s created what people are calling a “4 piece” wheel.

sundai1
Photo: @cgod_zak

Basically its a combination of lips and barrels that allow the wheel to be mounted to one of the barrels while the second barrel and an additional lip remain exposed.

sundai2
Photo: @cgod_zak
sundai
Photo: @cgod_zak

This means that the tire is, more or less, safely mounted even though it looks like it’s being held on by the collective will of the entire Camber Gang.

sundai4
Photo: @cgod_zak

While I actually quite like the design of the wheel, the color choice, and think the mirror finish on the lips themselves the end result is not for me.

sundai5
Photo: @cgod_zak

For this old man it is a bit much but a quick peruse through Zak‘s instagram reveals its right up his alley and what he wanted so more power to him for wildly going against the grain. Hopefully the police department where he lives is pretty lenient because around here, well, that’s a paddlin.

Before “hater” accusations start flying left right and center I actually really liked his car when it was like this, oh well.

Event Coverage: Eurokracy 2016 Pt. 3

1

Eurokracy 2016 was big, too big for one post, too big for two posts, and really even with this third post there are probably a few awesome cars we just couldn’t get to.

But life’s all about focusing on what you have, not what you don’t, and today what we have is another wicked photo set from Stillsteezy.com‘s Gray Schilling.

As alluded to in part two, like any other euro show in 2016, there were a lot of over fenders and flares at Eurokracy 2016. To the love, or hate, I’m not quite sure, of body shops everywhere this trend shows no signs of slowing down.

Eurokracy-by-Gray-20But when the end result is as angry looking as @kikaabmw‘s bagged e92 all said and done should this trend die down?

Eurokracy-by-Gray-19

Sitting on AG wheels, and equipped with what I believe are Clinched flares her –yes this is female owned– car combines bags, a high large spoiler, and flares into a great looking, and surprisingly subtle package.

Eurokracy-by-Gray-26

In front of the Nine 1 Forged wheels booth as another flared BMW, this one equipped with a Liberty Walk kit.

Eurokracy-by-Gray-25Nine 1 is boutique wheel company that I must admit I’ve never heard of before. However with so many custom forged wheel manufacturers popping up world-wide it’s become really hard to keep track of all of them.

It’s nice to see an upstart brand like this coming out with unique designs.

Eurokracy-by-Gray-24

Their wheels remind me a bit of Luxury Abstract models, but with a style that is a bit more universal.

Eurokracy-by-Gray-part-II-43

European centric, but not European exclusive, is something I said in part two and the FRS above and Subaru lurking in the background, both likely representing for Scale suspension, are representative of that.

Eurokracy-by-Gray-34The non-European vehicles were just as clean as the European ones,  and there’s a good chance many were in fact owned by previous euro car enthusiasts who moved on to a new platform.

Eurokracy-by-Gray-32

@chetflix’s GTR is, incredible. Yes it’s bagged, and I’m sure just typing bagged and GTR on the same line has evoked a purists scream somewhere but damn the car looks good.

Eurokracy-by-Gray-33

I really like that he kept the wheel sizing reasonable so that aired up I’m sure the car can be driven in a manner still becoming of a GTR.

Eurokracy-by-Gray-part-II-40

Another car that has its fitment nailed, albeit slightly more aggressive,  than the GTR is the owner of this Wheel Garage RX7.

Eurokracy-by-Gray-part-II-41

Like a lot of the other cars in Montreal it too is bagged — remember aggressive fitment is illegal there– and looks great at 0psi.

Eurokracy-by-Gray-31 Eurokracy-by-Gray-part-II-48

Going a little further aggressive still, was this Nissan. Bagged, obviously, the purple paint shimmered under the sun and those GMR wheels (another new multi-piece wheel company) really fill out the fenders front and rear.

Eurokracy-by-Gray-part-II-47

The fitment on this car is absolutely impeccable and of course Gray took a moment to capture just how close in proximity the wheel lip sits to the fender when the car is parked.

Eurokracy-by-Gray-part-II-45

Nope the car above is not a Frog or some other green reptile, that is a Pit Crew front end equipped Mazda Miata. I’ve actually never seen one of these conversions in person,  but I’ve read quite a bit about them.

Eurokracy-by-Gray-part-II-44

I am a bit on the fence about the look myself, but I do like how the owner has remedied the often strange bumper to fender line these conversions have by molding the entire front end into pone piece.

Eurokracy-by-Gray-part-II-34Not to be outdone in their own home when it comes to being unique, the Euro guys can build head scratchers too, like this Audi that looks like an up-sized child’s toy.

Eurokracy-by-Gray-part-II-32Eurokracy-by-Gray-27

And above, is an all wheel steer, all wheel drive, Volkswagen Beetle that does a mean burn out.

Eurokracy-by-Gray-part-II-14

But the real oddity of the show was the next phase of the evolution of the Ghetto_mk3.

Eurokracy-by-Gray-part-II-15

After years of being hammered static, the car is going to continue to be hammered on static, just with an entirely new chassis underneath. You can see the beginnings of it here if you look closely at the wheel arches and up by the roof and door where you can spot the cage.

Should be an interesting car when it is complete that is for sure.

Eurokracy-by-Gray-part-II-1

On the complete polar opposite end of the spectrum is Michael Sabourin’s MkIII Jetta. Shaved bay, supercharged, super clean, and sitting on Epsilion mesh wheels his car always looks great.

Eurokracy-by-Gray-part-II-16

Eurokracy-by-Gray-part-II-37

Eurokracy-by-Gray-part-II-39

Wagon fans fret not there were quite a few at Eurokracy this year and my personal favorite has to be rat4life’s Marlboro themed bagged e39.

Eurokracy-by-Gray-16

Street car livery has been picking up among the Euro and import crowd over the past few years and this has to be one of the best applications I’ve seen.

Eurokracy-by-Gray-1

The wheel choice, and fitment, is so DTM as well which really helps tie the entire aesthetic together.

Eurokracy-by-Gray-17

I’m sure this car is only going to trigger more liverys to hit the street so I’m just going to sit here patiently and wait for the black and gold John Player’s Special colors to roll out.

Eurokracy-by-Gray-5Eurokracy-by-Gray-7

Moving back to solids, how  about the fitment on this m3? Sitting the quarter between the rim and tire outback this isn’t for the faint of heart.

Eurokracy-by-Gray-36Eurokracy-by-Gray-37

The same could be said about the fitment on this e36 that is sitting on the almost criminally under used RF-1 wheel.

Picking a single car to end the 2016 Eurokracy coverage is a difficult ask so how about a pair? Above we have the show branded Porsche, driven by one of the event organizers Sergio,  and below we have an absolutely sinister looking competitor entry.

Black, on black, with just hint of polish this Porsche looks perfectly as a send off to this year’s coverage.

Thanks once again to Gray Schilling for giving us a peek at Eurokracy 2016.

Event Coverage: Eurokracy 2016 Pt. 2

2

In part one of the 2016 Eurokracy coverage we took a look at the infamous burnout contest through the lens of Gray Schilling’s camera. For part two we’ll emerge from the smoke, clean the rubber off that lens, and take a walk through the vast show and shine portion the event.

Eurokracy has grown impressively year after year since it’s inception and now, on the event’s third venue, it has expanded to the point where many regard it as one of the best Euro-centric –but not Euro exclusive– car events anywhere in North America.

A mighty big accolade that the show runners have right to be proud of.Eurokracy-by-Gray-3Eurokracy-by-Gray-4

The European car crowd has always been synonymous with cars that are as low as possible first and foremost,  and the classic Benz sedans above and below represent that to a tee.

Eurokracy-by-Gray-part-II-10

Almost daily I see a meme or two on Facebook chastising cars that,  on first glance, appear to have only wheels and a drop. Whether or not those two modifications make up the entirety of the cars changes ultimately doesn’t matter because sometimes that is all you need to make a car stand out visually.

And despite what black stroked white text over a low resolution image might lead you to believe,  not everyone with a low car wants awards or special attention, they just want to hang out with others who, like themselves, happen to like their cars more on the side of impractical than practical.

Eurokracy-by-Gray-part-II-9Eurokracy-by-Gray-part-II-8

As you already know a bit of everything gets embraced here, so there’s no sense in prattling on too much about the ever-growing ‘us’ vs ‘them’  divide in an event coverage post.

Eurokracy-by-Gray-28 Eurokracy-by-Gray-15

If this type of show, crowd, or modification style isn’t your thing feel free to bail out here, I promise there will be some drift coverage up next week, and some good ol’ fat tired american muscle the week after that.

Still here? Good I knew you wouldn’t get too far (or you happened to see this paragraph on your way down to the comment section), and today, instead of looking at some of the late-model cars present at Eurokracy 2016 we are going to take a look at the vehicles at the show built before 1998.

Eurokracy-by-Gray-part-II-18

When talking about classic cars at a European show there’s not better place to start than a Beetle, and Villan Fab’s low, wide, raw, Beetle has sure been making its rounds both in Ontario and Quebec.

This car polarizes people anywhere it goes,  but at the end of the day there’s no mistaking it for any other on the road.

Eurokracy-by-Gray-23

The Unix Performance Mk I is a Eurorkacy veteran at this point, and its attention to detail seems to have inspired others as there were a number of other clean Mk I variants at Eurokracy 2016.

Caddy or Golf, you can choose one of each, and since more options are better than few you can choose regular turbo or turbo diesel.

Eurokracy-by-Gray-part-II-4

A fan of Sciroccos but you have not seen any in a while? Neither have I but there were at least two wicked ones at Eurokracy and Gray caught glimpses of both.

Eurokracy-by-Gray-part-II-7Eurokracy-by-Gray-part-II-11

There was even a Volkswagen Thing, and a chopped down penny racer style cabriolet at Eurokracy this year.

Eurokracy-by-Gray-part-II-2Eurokracy-by-Gray-part-II-33

With a lot of flares coming up in part three, I’ve limited their appearance in part two to the set below.

Eurokracy-by-Gray-22

I’m sure none of you mind the inclusion of the boxy flares of a Rally ready Lancia Delta HF Evo, this car looks to be worth the price of admission alone.

Eurokracy-by-Gray-part-II-12

But wait there’s more! Maybe its Gray’s eye for the unmodified, or there just happened to be more at this years show, but I can’t recall there being so many pristine classics at any Eurokracy event prior.

Eurokracy-by-Gray-part-II-6

I mean look at that E-Type, it could probably do just as well, if not better, at Pebble Beach than it would at Eurokracy.

Eurokracy-by-Gray-part-II-28

And this Citroen DS21 is another extremely well-kept piece of metal.

Eurokracy-by-Gray-part-II-30Eurokracy-by-Gray-part-II-31

These cars were pretty far ahead of their time technology wise, and despite their age don’t look horribly dated today.

They have a unique look about them sure, but a lot of far worse designs come out of that particular era.

Eurokracy-by-Gray-part-II-29

Fittingly they were also on pneumatic suspension from the factory!

With that bit of french tech we are going to end today’s post, but check back later this week for the conclusion of the Eurokracy 2016 coverage provided by Gray Schilling of StillSteezy.com

Theme Tuesdays: Autocross Trucks

0

I was listening to c10 Talk the other day while doing some painting around the house, and in their Lonestar Throwdown episode the topic of using trucks for autocross came up.

Of course after once I was done painting, and with drink in hand, I cruised around looking for trucks on autocross courses which lead to today’s Theme Tuesday.

This C1500 has a pretty cool story, the owner had started it on one truck which then caught fire, but he transfered his work to this second truck and well, kept on truckin.

It’s an LS powered rig now and more about it can be found here and here on Pro-Touring.com.
auto-x-truck-ad-1
This Advanced design truck might not be built to Autocross, but the owner looks like he’s having a blast giving it a go. Goals for myself perhaps? I need to hit up a Good Guys event anyway… – Source

There’s a Schwartz Performance chassis under this truck that looks like it works very, very well.

It looks as though there seriously wasn’t anything Butch King didn’t try in his Blazer that is sadly no longer with us – source

Here;s another s10 built to corner, a build thread on this truck is here for your convince
I've seen this photo quite a bit, but now I have a build thread on Kill Billet to go with it!

The owner of this truck documented driving his car across the country in the Hot Rod Power Tour, and bending some corners with it here on alloymotors.com
auto-x-truck-ranger
I tried to keep this post to mostly trucks in action but I made a few exceptions, this Ranger is a well deserved one I think. Sadly I have yet to be able to track down more information
auto-x-truck-orange
Of all the trucks I found c10s seem to get autocrossed the most

I usually don’t like roof modifications on trucks, but, seeing this one uses more than makes up for it

No Limit specializes in making trucks do non truck stuff very well.
Chris Smith's C10 is one of my favorite competitive trucks

700hp 434 inside of a show worth engine bay
It also does a damn fine job of looking like a show truck when it needs to as well. When I saw it at SEMA in 2012 it had a 753 horsepower 454 between the fenders in 2012
This truck is such a well built machine that I spent about 15 minutes looking at it
It was in full Optima Street Car Challenge mode at the time
Speaking of C10s, this and the one following it are simply incredible
If you’re curious this is the truck beside it, another C10 built to manhandle road courses and Autocross tracks
Very glad to have seen Brad Coomer's C10 drive, this truck sounds Amazing
It looks (and sounds) great cruising along
But looks more at home on the course - myrideisme.com

As you can imagine this Rabbit hole goes quite deep, and if you’re wondering why I didn’t include noteworthy builds like the PCHRods C10R or the local Targa Truck, well, I’ve already thought of a different Theme Tuesday for trucks taken to the next level.
