Event Coverage: Trendsetters 2016

3

The last show put on by Kieron Ramjohn, better known locally as KJohn, was 2012’s Wickedest Slam. Since that show KJohn shifted his focus to building cars including Trevor’s previously featured Widebody Mazdaspeed3 and his own Skyline.

His hiatus from organizing events has ended in 2016 with the introduction of his new Trendsetters series of events, that had it’s first show last Saturday June 18th 2016.

With intentions of growing the show into a series of events KJohn chose to hold this first show at the Powerade Center in Brampton, a venue that can hold thousands of cars if necessary.
trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-porsche-suv-3 trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-porsche-suv-2Numbers for this year’s event didn’t reach into the thousands, but did hit a high of just below 500 cars which is a respectable number considering Montreal’s Eurokracy was the same weekend essentially taking out most of Ontario’s European crowd.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-ez-bin-8trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-javed-4trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-car-roll-intrendsetters-2016-powerade-center-donktrendsetters-2016-powerade-center-jeep

There was a bit of everything at this show which to be honest was refreshing to see, and the crowd was really into the events that were being held including the loudest exhaust, sound off, and limbo.

With no real line of sight into the competitive car audio community I often forget about it entirely, but shows like this remind me that these guys and girls are as serious as any other enthusiast when it comes to modifying their car for a purpose.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-speakers-2trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-speakers-1

While chasing decibels over horsepower might not be everyone’s scene its always impressive to see and hear.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-speakers-3

This Cadillac Escalade basically provided music for the entire venue. It was so loud that when playing I actually couldn’t get to close to it because Ash didn’t have hearing protection.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-yellow-impala-1 trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-yellow-purple-impala-1

That was a bit of a shame because these two Impalas, both yellow, and I think both owned by the same person, parked next to the boomin’ Caddy were quite nice.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-yellow-purple-impala-3

As you all know I’m a fan of flaked roofs and the one on the darker yellow ’64 was perfect.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-javed-4

Speaking of perfect, Javed’s EL showed up looking immaculate as it always does.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-javed-2

It was sitting in the Royalty Auto Spa booth where it was fittingly detailed from bumper to bumper.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-rwb-gtr-2

Royalty also had two flared cars outside their booth, Havrin’s GTR and a new to the scene fighter plane themed BMW drop top.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-rwb-bmw

I can count on one finger the number of bagged Talons I’ve seen and that number matches the amount I have seen on Work VS-XX wheels.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-bagged-mitsubishi-talon

This Miata, also on Work Wheels, sat quietly at one end of the show and I couldn’t resist a photo.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-miata

I’ve seen the Civic below at a few events, but somehow always forget to snap a photo of it. At this show I did slightly better by taking a partial shot.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-yellow-civic-camber-2

I managed the same with this Lexus which is static if you can believe it.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-static-lexus-3 trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-static-lexus-2

Seeing @thesqueege‘s car out in the sun really does the wrap on the car justice. The vinyl used on this car has a ton of depth to it and the application is done well too. Had I not known it was a wrap I might have mistook it for paint.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-the-squeeg-1

He told me that he was on his fourth turbo for this car and that big changes should be coming soon for some more reliability, I won’t spoil the surprise but it should be pretty awesome.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-the-squeeg-2

Of course, as you saw in the Spring Fever Coverage, Kevin at Chop Shop did a stellar job with the trunk set up. He’s been super busy this year banging out quality install, after quality install.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-the-squeeg-3

Just as wraps have come a long way so has hydro dipping, and I’m glad people have stopped using it for stuff like fake carbon fiber.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-silvia-red-cover-1

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-silvia-red-cover-2

Personally I’m not sure I’ve figured out a use case for it on my car, but the more I see, the more I’m interested in the potential applications of this process.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-project-monster-rear trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-project-monster-tire

Matt brought out his wide body 300zx, and parked it ass out so people could see just how wide the tear of it is.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-project-monster-interior

I took a look in the inside for the first time and it too is tastefully done, there’s much more than just additional gauges, and a lot more to come as well.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-ford-ranger-snowboard-spolier-1And now for something completely different, a snowboard used as a wing on a Ford Ranger.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-ford-ranger-snowboard-spolier-2

Pretty well something you’d only see in Canada, and it was parked beside a second ranger with a larger rear wing and a remote mounted turbo set up.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-ford-ranger-big-wing trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-ford-ranger-rearmount-turbo

The Ranger wasn’t the craziest, or most unique, power plant at the show however, that accolade has to go the the black Jaguar XJ6 below.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-2jz-jag-1trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-2jz-jag-2

When I saw the car pull in I’ll admit I wasn’t really all that intrigued, until I heard a peculiar noise come from under the hood that didn’t sound at all like it belonged.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-2jz-jag-4

As it turns out what I heard was a turbo coming from a 2JZ that has been stuffed under the hood. The body was pretty rough, but the swap seemed to be done pretty well.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-2jz-jag-5

It’s also for sale right now, and priced at 12k, which I think might be a bit high, but I have no idea how many man hours are in it.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-ez-bin-1trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-ez-bin-6

EZ bins brought these two rustic rods to the show, each unique in there own way.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-ez-bin-5 trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-ez-bin-4

Square tube headers have never been my thing, but, I do enjoy the unique cross stitch touches and flame cuts on these.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-endless-possibilites-mazdaspeed3

Jay has put a ton of work in his Speed3 over the past few years, and as of recently this includes carbon kevlar component covers under the hood.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-endless-possibilites-mazdaspeed3-2

He’s also got a pretty nice hardline set up in the hatch now, powdercoated by RoRo Designs.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-endless-possibilites-mazdaspeed3-3

Going to close things out with photos of Kieron’s personal R32 Skyline mentioned in the intro. It’s a clean an subtle build that comes together very well.

WTF: Friday The Franken Merc

2

On Father’s day my wife surprised me by locating a staggeringly large show at a local Church here in Durham, neither of us really knew what to expect, but it ended up being a really great show that we will be back to.

I didn’t take a lot of photos, originally not even taking my camera from its bag, but I had to take photos of this 1947 Custom Mercury known as the ‘Franken Merc’.

Modified so far from its original form I’m really glad the owner kept a photo of the car on his seat because without it I would have not been able to tell what it was.

frankenmerc4frankenmerc2

Originally a two door hard top the car is now, well, not that at all. The roof is gone, the belt line shaved, side pipes have been added and the bumper is now a carbon fiber split piece.

frankenmerc1

The largest change however is the electronically actuated 1 piece front end and headlights from… somewhere. The combination gives the car a bug , or Prowler like, look.

frankenmerc5

The door handles have also been shaved, and the rear bumper is gone too before a flaked orange paint job was added.

All the smoothing and lack of roof give the car a hefty looking rear end.

frankenmerc6frankenmerc3

The interior is pretty late 90s street rod and the Franken Merc name has been added to a few various places in the car, most notably here the dash, end of the filters. However the valve covers (not pictured currently but I will add it later) also wear the Franken Merc branding.

I’m not sure the number of hours in this car, or if the owner did it all himself, but its safe to say that there are no other Mercs out there quite like this one.

Event Coverage: The 2016 Niagara Truck And Tuner Expo

0

The Truck And Tuner Expo is one of the few events that Stance Is Everything supports by way of award sponsorship. Though I have not been able to make the event ever year –I’ve only been able to attend two– I know the organizers and support their vision so I contribute where I can.

Since their motivation comes from the right place, and they strive to make the event better year after year I always find a way to get some coverage on the site regardless of my personal goings on.

TnT by Gray-0060TnT by Gray-0055TnT by Gray-0065For the past two years Still Steezy’s Gray Schilling has contributed his coverage and for that I’m really grateful because Gray is an awesome photographer with an acute eye for the details many people (including myself) often miss.

TnT by Gray-TnT by Gray-0031TnT by Gray-0066

One of the main reasons TNT is so well supported among the community is that it is a truly diverse show that shows no discrimination or bias to one crowd or another.

It brings as many scenes together as possible which means there’s a great mix of both cars and trucks at every event.

TnT by Gray-0203TnT by Gray-0007TnT by Gray-0142 TnT by Gray-0144 TnT by Gray-0122

Since it’s one of the few show s in the Niagara area –June Jitterbug being a notable exception– there are usually a number of cars at TNT I don’t see too often, or have plain never seen before.

A great example of that this year is this Pro Street Chevette.

TnT by Gray-0197

I’ve always thought Chevettes had a decent amount of potential, being a small inexpensive rear wheel drive car, but their proclivity to rust, and their unremarkable OEM power plants have held them back.

TnT by Gray-0199

I’m not sure what is under the hood of this car but it is safe to say that ‘unremarkable’ no longer applies and power is not an issue.

TnT by Gray-0193

I’ll take any info I can on this one if you’ve got it!

TnT by Gray-0130TnT by Gray-0126

Moving on from the Chevette, take a look at this Ford Ranger with a vintage F-100 front end conversion. If you remember this truck was at Northern Showdown incomplete, and instead of painting the car in a more traditional fashion the owner has chosen to air brush it.

This gives an already unique truck an even more defining look.

TnT by Gray-0346TnT by Gray-0347

Speaking of Northern Showdown, the first time I saw this Miata was at that show. It’s a tidy Miata with a bit of forced induction under the hood for some added fun.

The answer is always Miata after all.

TnT by Gray-0119TnT by Gray-0070TnT by Gray-0325TnT by Gray-0147TnT by Gray-0052 TnT by Gray-0078

Gray is a bit of a wheel aficionado so any photo set he produces is full of detail sots of wheels. He does such a good job of it that I’m surprised he doesn’t have wheel companies knocking at his door.

TnT by Gray-0260

Also it wouldn’t be a TNT Expo without a goat, don’t ask me why there is always a pet goat at this show, there just is. Furthermore it isn’t even always the same goat, but I digress.

TnT by Gray-0161TnT by Gray-0154TnT by Gray-0178TnT by Gray-0153 TnT by Gray-0150

TnT by Gray-0171Not just a sit around and twiddle your thumbs affair TNT has a few side events with the most popular being the limbo, flowed closely by the loudest exhaust. It’s all in good fun of course as, while there are awards, this show is typically drama free and laid back about them.

Glittery plastic is not the focus.

Going to end this post with a few more photos from Gray but except a couple more shots here and there to make their way to Facebook and Instagram over the next few days!

Project Why Wait: Today Was A Good Day

10

Well, actually a week ago yesterday was a good day, but keeping with the musically influenced titles today was a good day works better than two weeks ago a good day happened. Regardless, two Sundays ago the cab of Project Why Wait was removed from its original chassis and placed on the one that Jeff Wybrow and Dave Newberry built.

I’d been steadily chipping away at removing everything necessary for this transfer so that the tensile strength of some random component wasn’t tested when the cab was hoisted into the air.
sie-gmc-update-4-1

If you remember the truck on the stock chassis is actually too tall to fit in any of the bays which meant we had to do the swap outside. Since it was just Blair, Chris Johnston (who also took a few photos because I forgot my camera), Brian Taylor, and myself we enlisted the help of a tractor to do the heavy lifting.

Seeing the cab floating in a tractor bucket was a little nerve-racking because that’s where the bulk of my money is so far.

sie-gmc-update-4-2

Thankfully nothing happened (though the strap did break later that day moving something else) and the cab went down on the frame without incident.

sie-gmc-update-4-3 sie-gmc-update-4-4

With the cab on the shorter, air ride equipped chassis, everything looked so much smaller, and about 100 times cooler.

But there were no laurels to be rested on as the bed had to get roughly placed as well. The bed was, prior to us moving it in the bed of another truck underneath the front end of yet a different truck.

sie-gmc-update-4-9

I’ve actually owned the bed and running boards for a few months now, but didn’t feel it was worth mentioning until now because lets be honest that is a bit of a boring update on its own.

Body wise I need one of the small filler pieces between the running board and body then I have everything needed to make a short bed.

sie-gmc-update-4-5

As you can tell the bed is, red(ish) and not blue, this will be rectified at a later date. The plan is to paint the bed all the colors we can currently see on the cab then patina it to match.

For now it sits on the frame in all its crooked glory.

sie-gmc-update-4-8

After that the only natural next step was to mock a fender up and take a bit of a step back.

sie-gmc-update-4-10 sie-gmc-update-4-7

If you squint, and use a bit of imagination, it looks exactly like the renderings Chris did last year, and no, if you’re wondering that isn’t the truck fully aired out.

sie-gmc-update-4-6

From here the rough order of operations is as follows; square up the bed via an inserted frame and mount it to the chassis, build shock mounts, mount the cab, build front shock mounts, order motor mounts, order a cross member, and then finally build a radiator core support mount the front end and hope everything lays where it should.

Then tear it all apart and send it out for paint.

I’m not sure when the next build day will be just yet but in the meantime I’ve been ordering a ton of parts and waiting for more. I should have a motor and transmission for next update but I’ll leave you all guessing on that for a bit longer.

IMG_9835-copy

Until then here’s a parting shot of Ash and I spending a little time in the truck.

Theme Tuesdays: J Swaps

1

Sometimes Theme Tuesday ideas just kind of pop into my head and won’t leave and today’s post on Honda J Swaps is exactly one of those. There was no trigger car or anything like that, the idea just came to me and wouldn’t leave.

For those of you not super familiar with Honda power plants (I am no expert myself) the J is one of Honda’s two V6 motor families. The motor is normally found in the Odyssey, Accord, Acura RDX and so forth.

It makes, depending on donor vehicle, anywhere from 200 to 286 hp in factory trim. The biggest downside to this motor is its size. To give the oil pan plenty of clearance it has to be mounted in such a way that you need to cut the hood, or run no hood at all, for it to work.

Event Coverage: The 2016 Paris Unfinished Nationals

2

You might remember that I only somewhat recently had my first true swap meet experience and I absolutely loved it.

So when I discovered the Unfinished Nationals, which is both a show and a swap meet not all that far, from my house I had to go even though it was on the same day as the Niagara Truck And Tuner Expo and the London’s Fleetwood Country Cruise In.

After a few messages I was able to get some representation at both of those events, and still head out to the Unfinished Nationals.

unfinished-nationals-rolling unfinished-nationals-dually-c10unfinished-nationals-elta-lineup unfinished-nationals-rod

As with 90% of the events covered so far in 2016 the weather was not on this events side, which meant heavy rain was in the forecast and on the way to the Paris Fairgrounds I actually drove through three different Thunderstorms.

At the venue the rain held off for most of the day, however since I figured I would be forced inside at some point I didn’t make my way to the swap meet until most vendors had started packing up.

So if you’re looking for swap meet photos I am afraid you are out of luck.

unfinished-nationals-buick-1 unfinished-nationals-t-fordy-acres unfinished-nationals-plum-wild-1

But if you are looking for photos of awesome hot rods, classic cars, and trucks then you are in luck, because The Unfinished Nationals was the perfect place to take in a variety of builds.

unfinished-nationals-advanced-design-7unfinished-nationals-advanced-design-8

In its eleventh year the name Unfinished Nationals is a bit of a double entendre. Yes unfinished cars are welcome, but most of the vehicles at the show drive themselves too and from. Of course as we all know no project is ever truly finished hence the name Unfinished Nationals.

…or at least that is my interpretation of the show’s unique name.

unfinished-nationals-elta-chevunfinished-nationals-dragsterunfinished-nationals-frontenac

At any rate it’s a show where polished, primped, un-drivable vehicles are best left at home because it’s time for the enthusiasts eager to put some miles on their cars to gather round and talk shop.

unfinished-nationals-elco-6unfinished-nationals-elco-2unfinished-nationals-elco-4unfinished-nationals-elco-1

Some of my absolute favourite local classics were at this show like Keith Cox’s ’59 El Camino. I fell head over heels for this car at the ELTA Summer Bash, and since Keith and I have been talking about lining up a shoot with this car.

Our schedules have yet to connect but its something I need to make happen.

unfinished-nationals-hotrod unfinished-nationals-wagon-2unfinished-nationals-wagon

Speaking of the ELTA, they were the feature club of this year’s show. Unfourtnatley I somehow managed to take very few photos of their cars, sorry brothers I’ll get you guys next time!

unfinished-nationals-rat-truckunfinished-nationals-rat-truck-3

With vehicles like the ornate, and unique, Dodge truck above can you blame me though for getting a little side tracked and losing track of time?

It seemed like every few steps there was another vehicle that you could spend a lot of time pouring over.

unfinished-nationals-aqua-c10-bike-1unfinished-nationals-aqua-c10-bike-2

I’m really not sure what I like more here the bike, or the truck, there’s no denying that they go together quite well and each have a unique style of their own.

unfinished-nationals-ford-truck-2unfinished-nationals-ford-truck

When it comes to unique style this Ford truck had a face only a mother, or a hot rodder, could love. The long nose and style of exhaust reminded me of a classic fighter plane to the point where I’m curious if that was the goal.

unfinished-nationals-t-bucket-3unfinished-nationals-t-bucket-2

I really enjoyed this t-bucket. I’m not sure if it’s an era correct build, or a real deal survivor, but with no top in sight the owner didn’t dare tempt fate and stay all day.

unfinished-nationals-advanced-design-3unfinished-nationals-advanced-design-4unfinished-nationals-advanced-design-1Advanced Design trucks were pretty plentiful at the show, and with each one my son Ash exclaimed “ads uck” which, in two year old, means “Dad’s Truck”.

Considering how little he’s seen of my truck that took me by surprise, but you know the expression, start ’em young.

unfinished-nationals-trailer-1

I’m clearly not the only one that shares that sentiment either.

unfinished-nationals-advanced-design-5unfinished-nationals-advanced-design-6

Visually this particular AD truck was the least complete, missing things like the bumper, running board spats, and a few other odds and ends but under the hood the diesel –4bt Cummins perhaps– swap seemed to be fairly sorted, loose belt aside.

I quite enjoy how the motor looks similar to the exterior. I wonder if all that dirt and grit came from years of sitting or was added afterwards?

unfinished-nationals-bob-ward5

unfinished-nationals-bob-ward2

The Horsefall’s Auto Service truck wasn’t the only diesel-powered AD sitting in the grass of the Paris fairgrounds, Bob Ward’s ’52 GMC 9700 was also on display.

Bob is keen to have me shoot this truck, and having seen it in person I am keen to shoot it, so we’re both looking at our calendars to make things work out. Yes, for those of you paying attention my list of cars to shoot grows every event.

unfinished-nationals-bob-ward3 unfinished-nationals-bob-ward6

He’s got a few cool details slipped in here and there that should make shooting it quite enjoyable.

unfinished-nationals-rawtin-rearunfinished-nationals-rod2

While awards were far from the most important thing at this show, a few were handed out and I was in ear shot to hear that this ’27 Ford took home The ‘Low Low Low’ and traditional award.

unfinished-nationals-rawtin-motorunfinished-nationals-rawtin-side

It used a chain drive for its accessories which was really quite cool, why I didn’t take a picture of it I am not sure, but take my word for it.

unfinished-nationals-milk-truck-1unfinished-nationals-milk-truck-2

I’ve seen this Milk truck around but never taken photos of it before. Ash was quite a fan hopping right in and making his way to the driver’s seat. Big thanks to the owner for welcoming him in.

I’ll explain to ash the true meaning of that “fire pole” in roughly 16 years.

unfinished-nationals-ls-c10-5 unfinished-nationals-ls-c10-8

Choosing a vehicle to close out this post with was a little difficult, considering all the awesome showcased above, but Richard Ruiter’s ’62 C10 seemed like a perfect place.

unfinished-nationals-ls-c10-3

This is the first of Richard’s builds I have seen in person and as many people have told me before his talent is incredible.

Having seen his son Brad’s work in person I wasn’t expecting anything less, but with this truck there’s so much attention to detail in this truck that it is almost overwhelming.

unfinished-nationals-ls-c10-6unfinished-nationals-ls-c10-1unfinished-nationals-ls-c10-2

I’ll leave you guys with one last shot of Richard’s truck and an optomistic promise that I’ll have my truck (in some form) at this event next year!

Uptown New York

0

I got the chance to go to the Unfinished Nationals last Sunday, and despite the wicked storm on the way out it was a great event. You can expect much more coverage from the event as a whole on Monday but I just had to get this car up today.

I, unfortunately, have pretty much only pictures for this one as I didn’t get a chance to talk to the owner and I couldn’t jump high enough to see the mod sheet on the driver’s window.

unfinished-nationals-4x4-new-yorker-2

But still you get the jist of it right? I assume the chassis is a fullsize truck of some sort, but I’m not well versed enoguh to tell what. I do like the use of the original hub caps in ‘show’ mode.

unfinished-nationals-4x4-new-yorker-1unfinished-nationals-4x4-new-yorker-5unfinished-nationals-4x4-new-yorker-4

The car drove in and out too, but the dealer plates suggest it just might be quasi legal. Either way it was certainly not what I was expecting to see at the show.

Theme Tuesdays: GTA Then And Now Pt. 2

1

This site has a lot of back content, so much so that I often have to delete some of it from my external up hard drives just to make space for the more recent photos. Most of that vintage content isn’t particularly memorable (thanks for following along while I figured out how to use a camera) but some of it is worth keeping onto for archival purposes.

What is really cool is seeing photos of cars in 2010, ’11 and ’12 that are still around today. In the import area this is a little less common, but when it comes to American metal many of have stood the test of time. Some changing slightly over the years while others a little bit more significantly.

WTF Friday: Struggle Bus

1

Got a quick WTF Friday this week as I recover from a week of editing and gear up for a busy Sunday of event coverage.

I spotted this 1996 Ford Powerstroke short bus, know as The Struggle Bus, on Facebook a few days ago and had a good chuckle.

Modified short busses are nothing new, and I’ve seen a few in the metal, but usually I see lowered ones not lifted ones.

strugglebus1

This one has been lifted ten inches in total (I’m hoping it’s not 10 inches of lift block) which probably gives it the same handling characteristics of a Canyonero.

strugglebus5strugglebus3strugglebus4The interior is unfinished but it looks like it is set up to party, though a stripper pole is mysteriously absent.

strugglebus2

It has also been converted to all wheel drive but currently needs a transfer case. I could see it being used a cool transport for a downhill team or something though the 14k price tag might be steeper than the hills.

At any rate if you’re interested here’s the Facebook link, it’s located in North Carolina

Event Coverage: Fitted Lifestyle Toronto 2016

0

As mentioned in Tuesday’s post featuring the cars outside the venue, Fitted Lifestyle has grown significantly since its inception to the point where it is now one of the largest shows in the Toronto area.

With each passing year the reach of the show extends further across Canada drawing out cars from as far away as New Brunswick.

fitted-lifestyle-2016-quebec-miata-1 fitted-lifestyle-2016-quebec-miata-2

These out-of-towners, who probably represent at least 40% of the show, trailer or drive some of the craziest vehicles of the event. The Québécois in particular pull out all the stops.

fitted-lifestyle-2016-soclean-1-dnfitted-lifestyle-2016-vw-passat-equips-1-dtfitted-lifestyle-2016-vw-passat-equips-2-dtAs my friend Chris De La Cruz put it, since the laws in Quebec are currently quite strict in regards to aggressive fitment, the Quebec contingent shows up to ‘wild out’ (thankfully without Nick Cannon).

fitted-lifestyle-2016-low-level-datsun-1-dt

Having been to Quebec late last season many of the cars were familiar to me, but nearly all of them had changed to some degree.

fitted-lifestyle-2016-best-engine-1-dt

One of the cars that changed most significantly was Cimon Brouillette’s s13. It now sports a shaved, tubbed bay featuring the almighty Toyota 2JZ motor. The interior is just as detailed as the exterior to boot making this car a truly complete build.

fitted-lifestyle-2016-beetle-green-dt

A duo of air-cooled Beetles also made the trip from Quebec, which was great for me since I unfortunately won’t be at Eurokracy this year.

fitted-lifestyle-2016-villian-fab-beetle-rear-flares-2up-dt

As you can tell from the photos above the two beetles were very, very, different from one another. The first was built in a more traditional manner, while the second was quite the opposite.

fitted-lifestyle-2016-villian-fab-beetle-side-front-three-quarter-dn

With not a single non patina’d panel on its body this bug sits on fittingly unrestored wide Cragar five spoke wheels.

fitted-lifestyle-2016-villian-fab-beetle-side-profile-dn

Those wheels, more typically found on muscle cars, look surprisingly at home on the German machine.

fitted-lifestyle-2016-villian-fab-beetle-rear-dt

I’m sure some purists will react to this car in a knee jerk fashion but they should scroll up and look at the photos again. From the looks of all the patch panels this car was closer to the scrap yard than it was the Councours before the owner got a hold of it.

fitted-lifestyle-2016-stance-east-benz-1-dtfitted-lifestyle-2016-stance-east-benz-7-dt

If you do want something to get upset about, how about this year’s best Euro sedan winner.

fitted-lifestyle-2016-stance-east-benz-4-dt

Those very aggressive Messer wheels, are one of very few sets in the world and the only ones in North America.

fitted-lifestyle-2016-stance-east-benz-3-dt

Fitting them got a little… messy, but I think (or hope for his wallets sake) Stance East‘s Chad McGairity is working to straighten this up a bit.

fitted-lifestyle-2016-e36-dt

But lets switch from the overly aggressive and dial things back to the kind of wheel fitment that stands the test of time.

fitted-lifestyle-2016-e36-2-dt

Adrian’s e36 might not be the lowest BMW around but this car could remain unchanged for ten years and never look dated. A true testament to the staying power of a classy touch and eye for detail.

fitted-lifestyle-2016-kjohn-gtr-1-dt

The same could also be said for Kieron’s –aka Kjohn– Skyline. Sitting right on the function and Form line this car looks stellar and it’s great to see him out again with a new build.

fitted-lifestyle-2016-attenion-whores-3-flare-1-dt

Kjohn’s work also appeared on this Mazda 3 hatch, albeit not originally. If this front end looks familiar to you it’s because it was previously on Trevor’s Mazdaspeed3 that was featured last year. In addition to parts from Trevor’s now parted out car,  this 3 has Clinched flares and work wheels.

fitted-lifestyle-2016-attenion-whores-3-2-dt

Ryan, who recently re dipped his car, got new wheels, went lower, and caved a fender days before the show. With no time to refinish a new fender to match his pearl dip he used a unique wrap to cover things up.

fitted-lifestyle-2016-bagged-rx7-1-dtfitted-lifestyle-2016-bagged-rx7-2-dt

Rounding out the Mazdas is Jordan’s bagged FD RX7 on Blitz 03 wheels. It is pretty impressive how much wheel an FD can fit stock body, sort of makes you wonder why so many people are cutting them up these days.

fitted-lifestyle-2016-nissan-silvia-flares-2-dnfitted-lifestyle-2016-nissan-silvia-flares-1-dt

But the counter to the no flare argument could be the s14 above and FRS below.

fitted-lifestyle-2016-nissan-silvia-flares-3-dn

I particularly like how the s14 has the black molding running between the flares and the body reminiscent of an RWB build.

fitted-lifestyle-2016-silvias-dt

The s15 faced s14 spotted at CSCS was at Fitted, sitting beside Matt’s pearl s14.

fitted-lifestyle-2016-silver-s2000-1-dtfitted-lifestyle-2016-s2000-circuit-garagefitted-lifestyle-2016-bagged-s2000-dt

S2000s continue to be quite popular among the fitment community with a variety sitting at Fitted. The Carshop Glow tail lights on the red one are quite stunning.

fitted-lifestyle-2016-bagged-370-dtfitted-lifestyle-2016-galeforce-z-1-dt

370s are also popping up quite a bit more, among this crowd. Or is it popping down? Anyway the Airrex bagged blue turbo 370 above features the first Varis Arising II kit in North America and TE37 Ultra wheels.

FITTED2016_10

Matt Budz competed and won the Tuner Battlegrounds competition at Fitted 2016. His all metal wide body 300zx is a car I really should make arrangements to feature sometime this year.

fitted-lifestyle-2016-gt-custom-exhausts-e46-1-dt

GT Custom Exhausts’ Mike Catell claims his car is used and abused but I say for a daily driver/occasional drifter it holds up pretty well compared to show cars like the red e46 below.

fitted-lifestyle-2016-bmw-e46-bbs-1-dt What do you think?

fitted-lifestyle-2016-moniz-detailing-1-dn

fitted-lifestyle-2016-moniz-detailing-3-dnWhen it comes to show level attention to detail it’s hard to deny the effort put into the Moniz Detailing Acura CL.

fitted-lifestyle-2016-moniz-detailing-2-dt

Not exactly sure how the engine bay was done (hydro dipping I don’t think would work here, however I could be wrong) but I can’t imagine it was a quick application.

FITTED2016_9fitted-lifestyle-2016-hardlines-dt

Hardlines are still very much in fashion this year and there were several intricate examples at the show, one of the best had to be in the car below.

fitted-lifestyle-2016-trunk-set-up-2-dn

I’ve seen vintage extinguishers used before, but never surrounded in such a complex network of hard lines. With four compressors I bet this car fills with the quickness too.

fitted-lifestyle-2016-trunk-set-up-1-dt

As a true ‘Lifestyle’ show Fitted wasn’t just about the cars, there were actually a few side attractions.

FITTED2016_14

Needed a hair cut? Sure thing.

fitted-lifestyle-2016-rc-drift-1-dt fitted-lifestyle-2016-rc-drift-2-dn

Tired of looking at cars sitting stationary? Well hopefully RC drift cars can distract you for a bit, they certainly worked on my son.

fitted-lifestyle-2016-rc-drift-3-dn

For those interested in neither hair cuts, or small scale cars, there were a few motorcycles sprinkled throughout the two halls.

fitted-lifestyle-2016-motorcycle-4-dn

Again, I’m not sure if it’s a mid life crisis or what, but I feel the clock is ticking on how many days left of my life I can live without a motorcycle of my own.

fitted-lifestyle-2016-motorcycle-2-dtfitted-lifestyle-2016-motorcycle-3-dt

MoonRise Motor Co built the two bikes above and the second Honda is actually going to be up for sale soon, not that I’m looking or anything….

fitted-lifestyle-2016-typer-r-1-dt fitted-lifestyle-2016-typer-r-2-dtBut to get back to the cars this DC Integra on Work CR-01 wheels was clean as a whistle. I feel it just might have been static too, but it is hard to tell these days.

fitted-lifestyle-2016-toyota-celsior-1-dn FITTED2016_6

Ken’s car had yet another set of wheels on it and looked like it was straight out of the pages of VIPCAR Magazine. Every now and then Ken mentions that he might part with the car, but then he goes and buys a new set of wheels or a crazy OEM accessory like a Toyota Celsior Walkman (seriously) so I never quite know.

fitted-lifestyle-2016-jon-perm-s14-1-dt

Another individual who keeps me on my toes is Jon Prem. Bagged in 2014, static in 2015, and for 2016 after a bit of a ‘situation normal all fucked up moment’ shortly after revealing his new wheel set up, he quickly swapped his old wheels back on for Fitted.

FITTED2016_13

It certainly wouldn’t be a Fitted post without a few photos of Brian’s car.

fitted-lifestyle-2016-elevated-civic-1-dt

fitted-lifestyle-2016-elevated-civic-3-dn

He’s got his bag set up dialed in now and I think the same can be said for the h22 turbo power plant.

fitted-lifestyle-2016-elevated-civic-2-dt

For Fitted 2016 the organizers asked if I knew any classic car owners who might be into showcasing their car at the show.

fitted-lifestyle-2016-1936-copperhead-1-dn

I asked a few people and the only person who could be availible was Mike Livia.

fitted-lifestyle-2016-1936-copperhead-2-dn

His 1936 Copperhead is a show stopper anywhere it goes, and I’m very glad he could bring it to the show even if he couldn’t stay the entire day.

fitted-lifestyle-2016-1936-copperhead-3-dtfitted-lifestyle-2016-1936-copperhead-5-dnfitted-lifestyle-2016-1936-copperhead-4-dn

Vehicles like his are the type any enthusiast can appreciate and was the second most talked about classic car of the show.

fitted-lifestyle-2016-world-war-z-1-dn

So what was the first you ask? Well that honour was reserved for the Cyrious Garageworks built World War Z 1970 Camaro.

fitted-lifestyle-2016-world-war-z-2-dt

Seen in various stages of completion last year this car is now done and absolutely outstanding.

fitted-lifestyle-2016-world-war-z-4-dt

Carbon fiber bumpers front and rear, LSA motor, ride tech self leveling suspension and a stellar interior round out just some of the details hidden within this intense build.

fitted-lifestyle-2016-world-war-z-5-dt

I am going to make damn sure to get some one on one time with this car sometime this summer, as well as get a ride shotgun!

fitted-lifestyle-2016-world-war-z-6-dtThat rounds out the Fitted coverage for another year though there’s sure to be a few alternate shots trickling out on to instagram and Facebook over the next few weeks.

So if you didn’t see your car in the coverage thus far keep an eye out!
