Insane Parisienne

0

At the same Father’s Day show I saw Fred’s Cadicallac (and the ‘Frankenmerc’ for that matter) I spotted this amazing Pontiac Parisenne. For those of you outside of North America the Parisienne was a Canadian market specific car from ’58 to ’83 then sold in both US and Canadian markets from ’83 to the end of its run in ’86.

This one specifically has been given a proper kustom treatment resulting in the drop dead gorgeous look below.

Pontiac-Parisienne-kustom-1

A very big car this one has all the touches of a traditional kustom with a spotlight, low ride height, lakeside pipes, lots of chrome and a wicked paint job.

Pontiac-Parisienne-kustom-2Pontiac-Parisienne-kustom-5

I am usually not a continental kit fan but the fins and length of this car in general really make it work.

kustom3kustom4Watching this car roll out it will please some of you to learn its as static as they get. Really excited to see more of what the Durham region has to offer for classics, so far so good.

Theme Tuesdays: Rare Wheels

3

Reader Matt suggested last week that I do a Theme Tuesday on rare wheels, and I admit it’s a pretty theme idea that I have never tackled.

Rare wheels come in several different forms, low production, out of production, and unique applications and this week’s Theme Tuesday touches on all varieties.

It’s also just a quick skim of the surface until I get some time to really dive in to this topic, expect this theme to boomerang back around in the next few months or so.

Going to start things off with the Messer wheels on Stance East Chad's Mercedes

Event Coverage: Formula Drift Canada Round 2 – Redemption

1

For the last few years Formula Drift Canada has been largely a Quebec based affair, with much of its fan base and competitive field residing in Quebec or in very close proximity to it.

However with the number of Ontario residents supporting the series growing year after year, Formula Drift Canada gave back to the Ontario fan base by bring an event back to Ontario for 2016.

When the Sunset Speedway was announced as the venue I’m sure I was not the only one a little surprised a somewhat remote oval was chosen.

formula-drift-canada-2016-round-2-line-up-1To be completely honest I didn’t even know there was a racetrack in Barrie, and when I asked people about the track many said they had memories of coming to the track to watch Demolition Derbys, and were surprised it was still around.

formula-drift-canada-2016-round-2-10Drake sat out last year’s world round, but this year we’d be covering this Ontario event together and we both showed up about half an hour before the media meeting kicked off.

formula-drift-canada-2016-round-2-dedication-1formula-drift-canada-2016-round-2-8In the break between the meeting and practice Drake and I wasted no time taking advantage of the venue being empty so early in the morning as both the pits and the show would fill up later that day.

formula-drift-canada-2016-round2-ls-2 formula-drift-canada-2016-round-2-pits-ls-1 formula-drift-canada-2016-round-2-pits-turbo

Being a compact venue it was pretty easy to get a quick lay of the land without a bike, scooter, golf kart or moped.

formula-drift-canada-2016-round-2-showlot-drakeformula-drift-canada-2016-round-2-show-z31The pits were close to the parking lot, and the show area was close to the track. This all meant it was easy to wander around when the track was cold without worry of being too far out of position when the engines started to fire up.

formula-drift-canada-2016-round-2-line-up-2The show portion wasn’t the largest I’ve seen at a drift event, but the cars were pretty decent, however since there’s a lot of other show coverage on the site it won’t be priority in this post.

formula-drift-canada-2016-round-2-show-ae86

But, it has become quite obvious at this point that I can’t walk past Brad’s Miata without taking a photo of it, so here are a few more.

formula-drift-canada-2016-round-2-show-ls-miata-3

formula-drift-canada-2016-round-2-show-ls-miata-1

With this being the sole Ontario stop of the season all of the local competitive field was trying their best to put on a good show for the fans, and fill spots one through three with Ontario residents.

formula-drift-canada-2016-round-2-steven-van-sluen-5formula-drift-canada-2016-round-2-steven-van-sluen-4

Moneygang Steve‘s car is now mechanically complete and even more of a beast than it was the previous season.

formula-drift-canada-2016-round-2-steven-van-sluen-1

Steve drove well and made it into the top 16 however his axles decided they had enough, both snapping once the tandems started.

formula-drift-canada-2016-round-2-steven-van-sluen-2formula-drift-canada-2016-round-2-steven-van-sluen-3

Mats Baribeu, another Ontario native, was putting his Chaser through its paces.

formula-drift-2016-pits-mats-1Black last season, Mats car is now a vibrant copper color. His Toyota has always been one of the more stylish cars in the field and this year it looks even better, he’s also one of the few cars in the field that have wheels sitting mostly within the fenders.

formula-drift-canada-2016-round-2-mats-baribeau-5

Mats has always been one of my favorite drivers to watch since I first saw him drive at DMCC six years ago. He’s never afraid to let it all hang out with tons of angle every time he’s on the track.

formula-drift-canada-2016-round-2-mats-baribeau-1

formula-drift-canada-2016-round-2-mats-baribeau-2 formula-drift-canada-2016-round-2-mats-baribeau-4

Unfortunately, as fun as Mats is to shoot, we were only able to do it in practice and qualifying as he straightened during both of his judged runs and didn’t make the top 16.

formula-drift-canada-2016-round-2-mats-baribeau-3Riley Sexsmith drove well out in Barrie –actually I don’t think I’ve ever really seen Riley have a bad day– making it into the top sixteen at the thirteenth spot.
formula-drift-canada-2016-round-2-riley-sexsmith-4

His NV Auto 2JZ Subaru is a smoke machine out that seems to never really hiccup. The vibrant orange livery makes it a really great photo subject too no matter how bright and hot the sun is.

The local veteran Pat Cyr had a bit of a rough go at the Sunset Speedway. In practice the day before the event he was plagued with fuel delivery problems that ended his day seven laps in.

formula-drift-canada-2016-round2-pat-cyr-pits-1

After a late night at the shop replacing the fuel delivery system, the Cyrious Garageworks team was rewarded for their efforts with an intercooler that cracked their first practice lap.

With no TIG welder to be found, Brad (a member of Pat’s crew) had to head back to Mississauga weld the intercooler, then turn right back around and come out to the track to put the car back together in time for Pat’s qualifying run.

formula-drift-canada-2016-round2-pat-cyr-2Most people would have a tough time coping in a situation like this, or at least most normal people, but Pat was as cool as ice signing posters and talking to fans as time ticked away.

formula-drift-canada-2016-round2-pat-cyr-pits-2

Miraculously they got the car back together just in time and Pat put together a killer qualifying run that earned him the tenth qualifying spot.

formula-drift-canada-2016-round2-pat-cyr-1Unfortunately transmission problems ended his day sooner than he would have hoped in the top sixteen, but no one can say it was for lack of trying.

formula-drift-2016-round2-15

Pat wasn’t the only one having a rough day, Tommy “Tom Tom” Bosivert found himself hard into the wall at Sunset speedway.

formula-drift-canada-2016-round2-Tomy-Boisvert-Bellemare-crash-1 formula-drift-canada-2016-round2-Tomy-Boisvert-Bellemare-crash-2

The impact was pretty significant, but I’m pretty sure he was alright. His car however was a different story, and though it looked like a write off from where I was standing his team tried their very best at getting it fixed for qualifying.

formula-drift-canada-2016-round2-Tomy-Boisvert-Bellemare-crash-4

It was all for naught though. They did get the car back onto four wheels but it was still in no condition to compete.

formula-drift-canada-2016-round2-Tomy-Boisvert-Bellemare-crash-5

Practice for everyone else seemed to go pretty well, with no other major incidents and watching from the infield qualifying was pretty exciting even though I feared I might pass out as it was extremely hot and I had a rapidly depleting water supply.

formula-drift-canada-2016-round-2-bass-gauthier-1formula-drift-canada-2016-round-2-tom-synder

I managed however, and Drake did a great job of capturing the action from the spectators point of view which really gives some depth to the coverage perspective wise.

formula-drift-canada-2016-round-2-1

formula-drift-canada-2016-round-2-6formula-drift-canada-2016-round-2-7

Alex Blanchette didn’t qualify but he drove his supercharged Genesis has hard as he could.

formula-drift-canada-2016-round-2-alexandre-blanchette-2 formula-drift-canada-2016-round-2-alexandre-blanchette-1

If being the only Genesis in the field wasn’t unique enough, he also added some Rollerblade wheels to his bash car that protruded from the bumper.

The wheels looked pretty fresh, and I feel like if they actually did hit the wall they would just vanish entirely, but it was a nice talking piece none the less.

formula-drift-canada-2016-round-2-alexandre-blanchette-3

Pennsylvanians Troy Manners became one of my favorites of the day because I’m pretty familiar with the drive from Penn to Ontario and it’s not something I expected someone to do to compete in drifting.

formula-drift-canada-2016-round-2-troy-manners-1

After something in the rear end let go right near the end of his first qualifying run, he had to let it all hang out in run two and just making it in.

formula-drift-canada-2016-round-2-troy-manners-2

He’s a pretty young competitor, but it looks like there’s a bright future ahead of him of he can keep a program together. In fact I need to take a second to appreciate just how hard everyone in the Formula Drift Canada field works to keep their programs running.

Motorsports are in no way cheap and every competitor works incredibly hard to keep doing this year after year.

formula-drift-canada-2016-round-2-jonathan-guitard-1

Jonathan Guitard qualified in seventh spot and ended up facing Pat Cyr if the first round of the top 16 elimination, after Pat’s transmission problems cropped up Jonathan moved on.

formula-drift-canada-2016-round-2-21formula-drift-canada-2016-round-2-jonathan-guitard-2

Youri Levesque drove extremely well in practice, and in his qualifying run, and ended up at the top of the heap with a 79.5.

formula-drift-canada-2016-round-2-youri-levesque-1

He ended the day in third spot, and celebrated a great day with his son during the award ceremony.

formula-drift-canada-2016-round-2-19

formula-drift-canada-2016-round-2-youri-levesque-2

Miro Ovcharik put on quite a show at the Sunset Speedway from practice all the way through to the finals.

formula-drift-canada-2016-round-2-5formula-drift-canada-2016-round-2-12 formula-drift-canada-2016-round-2-23

As the competition went later into the night Miro stayed consistent and took home a well deserved second podium position under the Barrie lights.

formula-drift-canada-2016-round-2-jonathan-nerren-1

Jonathan Nerren was one of two halves of a Zenna Tires sponsored pair. Both drivers made it into the top sixteen, with Jonathan taking the fourteenth spot.

formula-drift-canada-2016-round-2-jonathan-nerren-2

formula-drift-canada-2016-round-2-15

Tyler Nelson was the other half of the orange and silver qualified fourth, but battled from there up to the first place position.

A long day for drivers, media, and fans alike this Barrie Speedway round was great and I really hope that Ontario gets the opportunity to welcome Formula Drift back next year.

The Next Formula Drift Canada Event is July 16th at St Eustache, and it’s a world round so there will be some big names there. Head over to formuladriftcanada.com for more info.

WTF Friday: Blended GMS

0

A large part of the minitruck community sure does love panel swaps. Mustang front ends on S10s, Eclipse front ends on Blazers, Corvette C4 rear ends on everything, the list goes on and on.

Some of these swaps work really well while others, well, sometimes the best laid plans don’t turn out as expected.

gmmashup1

What you’re looking at above is a 2002 Trailblazer with a 2012 Camaro SS front clip, but wait there’s more!

gmmashup3gmmashup4In addition to the front headlights, bumper, and hood, the rear bumper and tail lights have been added too.

The whole thing was then covered in a chameleon paint job in what looks to be an attempt to cover up the filler used to get things to work out.

gmmashup2The side profile of the mashed up GM is well, unique to say the least. However the vehicle does have one saving grace, which would be the power plant.

gmmashup5Under the hood is a 383 stroker that’s been bored over which means this product of the GM parts bin should go pretty well. Or at least well enough to really test how well those panels have been grafted on.

If you’re willing to find out just how fast you can go before the swapped panels leave the truck it is for sale for 10k in Tampa bay.

Fred’s ’57 Cadillac is incredible. I saw it at the Jalopy Jam Up last year and it’s just my style. Astros, thin whites, flaked roof, juiced, gold paint, and white wheel wells that are somehow always clean.

Fred is also a really nice guy to who does a lot for the local car community out here in Durham so I’ve been lucky enough to see the car again and again.

At Fire Up The Grill On Fathers day I saw it once more and decided to take a couple snaps. The background isn’t stellar or anything but with a car like this you really can’t take a bad shot.

He’s invited me to come check out his place some time so who knows maybe an upcoming feature?

Theme Tuesdays: Recently Viewed – June 2016

2

Apologies for MIA Theme Tuesday last week. This post was actually supposed to be that but I just didn’t get time to sit down and finish it much beyond the title.

There’s a bit of old, a bit of new, a bit of borrowed, and nothing blue for this week. Including, of course, Leno’s heck of a ride in Hemi Under Glass if you’ve yet to see it.

Of course as cool as Hemi Under Glass is, I was always more of a Little Red Wagon fan.

And while we’re talking abotu wheels up, how about Eddie Bellos 1300hp 911?

I’m open to ideas for the next few Theme Tuesdays so drop some in the comments and I’ll see what I can do.

Event Coverage: Trendsetters 2016

3

The last show put on by Kieron Ramjohn, better known locally as KJohn, was 2012’s Wickedest Slam. Since that show KJohn shifted his focus to building cars including Trevor’s previously featured Widebody Mazdaspeed3 and his own Skyline.

His hiatus from organizing events has ended in 2016 with the introduction of his new Trendsetters series of events, that had it’s first show last Saturday June 18th 2016.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-kanjo-civic-1 trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-classic-hondas-2 trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-s14-work-meisters

With intentions of growing the show into a series of events KJohn chose to hold this first show at the Powerade Center in Brampton, a venue that can hold thousands of cars if necessary.
trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-porsche-suv-3 trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-porsche-suv-2Numbers for this year’s event didn’t reach into the thousands, but did hit a high of just below 500 cars which is a respectable number considering Montreal’s Eurokracy was the same weekend essentially taking out most of Ontario’s European crowd.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-ez-bin-8trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-javed-4trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-car-roll-intrendsetters-2016-powerade-center-donktrendsetters-2016-powerade-center-jeep

There was a bit of everything at this show which to be honest was refreshing to see, and the crowd was really into the events that were being held including the loudest exhaust, sound off, and limbo.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-vw-loudest-exhausttrendsetters-2016-powerade-center-ez-bin-7 trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-honda-wagon

With no real line of sight into the competitive car audio community I often forget about it entirely, but shows like this remind me that these guys and girls are as serious as any other enthusiast when it comes to modifying their car for a purpose.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-speakers-2trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-speakers-1

While chasing decibels over horsepower might not be everyone’s scene its always impressive to see and hear.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-speakers-3

This Cadillac Escalade basically provided music for the entire venue. It was so loud that when playing I actually couldn’t get to close to it because Ash didn’t have hearing protection.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-yellow-impala-1 trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-yellow-purple-impala-1

That was a bit of a shame because these two Impalas, both yellow, and I think both owned by the same person, parked next to the boomin’ Caddy were quite nice.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-yellow-purple-impala-3

As you all know I’m a fan of flaked roofs and the one on the darker yellow ’64 was perfect.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-javed-4

Speaking of perfect, Javed’s EL showed up looking immaculate as it always does.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-javed-2

It was sitting in the Royalty Auto Spa booth where it was fittingly detailed from bumper to bumper.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-rwb-gtr-2

Royalty also had two flared cars outside their booth, Havrin’s GTR and a new to the scene fighter plane themed BMW drop top.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-rwb-bmw

I can count on one finger the number of bagged Talons I’ve seen and that number matches the amount I have seen on Work VS-XX wheels.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-bagged-mitsubishi-talon

This Miata, also on Work Wheels, sat quietly at one end of the show and I couldn’t resist a photo.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-miata

I’ve seen the Civic below at a few events, but somehow always forget to snap a photo of it. At this show I did slightly better by taking a partial shot.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-yellow-civic-camber-2

I managed the same with this Lexus which is static if you can believe it.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-static-lexus-3 trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-static-lexus-2

Seeing @thesqueege‘s car out in the sun really does the wrap on the car justice. The vinyl used on this car has a ton of depth to it and the application is done well too. Had I not known it was a wrap I might have mistook it for paint.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-the-squeeg-1

He told me that he was on his fourth turbo for this car and that big changes should be coming soon for some more reliability, I won’t spoil the surprise but it should be pretty awesome.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-the-squeeg-2

Of course, as you saw in the Spring Fever Coverage, Kevin at Chop Shop did a stellar job with the trunk set up. He’s been super busy this year banging out quality install, after quality install.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-the-squeeg-3

Just as wraps have come a long way so has hydro dipping, and I’m glad people have stopped using it for stuff like fake carbon fiber.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-silvia-red-cover-1

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-silvia-red-cover-2

Personally I’m not sure I’ve figured out a use case for it on my car, but the more I see, the more I’m interested in the potential applications of this process.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-project-monster-rear trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-project-monster-tire

Matt brought out his wide body 300zx, and parked it ass out so people could see just how wide the tear of it is.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-project-monster-interior

I took a look in the inside for the first time and it too is tastefully done, there’s much more than just additional gauges, and a lot more to come as well.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-ford-ranger-snowboard-spolier-1And now for something completely different, a snowboard used as a wing on a Ford Ranger.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-ford-ranger-snowboard-spolier-2

Pretty well something you’d only see in Canada, and it was parked beside a second ranger with a larger rear wing and a remote mounted turbo set up.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-ford-ranger-big-wing trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-ford-ranger-rearmount-turbo

The Ranger wasn’t the craziest, or most unique, power plant at the show however, that accolade has to go the the black Jaguar XJ6 below.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-2jz-jag-1trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-2jz-jag-2

When I saw the car pull in I’ll admit I wasn’t really all that intrigued, until I heard a peculiar noise come from under the hood that didn’t sound at all like it belonged.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-2jz-jag-4

As it turns out what I heard was a turbo coming from a 2JZ that has been stuffed under the hood. The body was pretty rough, but the swap seemed to be done pretty well.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-2jz-jag-5

It’s also for sale right now, and priced at 12k, which I think might be a bit high, but I have no idea how many man hours are in it.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-ez-bin-1trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-ez-bin-6

EZ bins brought these two rustic rods to the show, each unique in there own way.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-ez-bin-5 trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-ez-bin-4

Square tube headers have never been my thing, but, I do enjoy the unique cross stitch touches and flame cuts on these.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-endless-possibilites-mazdaspeed3

Jay has put a ton of work in his Speed3 over the past few years, and as of recently this includes carbon kevlar component covers under the hood.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-endless-possibilites-mazdaspeed3-2

He’s also got a pretty nice hardline set up in the hatch now, powdercoated by RoRo Designs.

trendsetters-2016-powerade-center-endless-possibilites-mazdaspeed3-3

Going to close things out with photos of Kieron’s personal R32 Skyline mentioned in the intro. It’s a clean an subtle build that comes together very well.

WTF: Friday The Franken Merc

2

On Father’s day my wife surprised me by locating a staggeringly large show at a local Church here in Durham, neither of us really knew what to expect, but it ended up being a really great show that we will be back to.

I didn’t take a lot of photos, originally not even taking my camera from its bag, but I had to take photos of this 1947 Custom Mercury known as the ‘Franken Merc’.

Modified so far from its original form I’m really glad the owner kept a photo of the car on his seat because without it I would have not been able to tell what it was.

frankenmerc4frankenmerc2

Originally a two door hard top the car is now, well, not that at all. The roof is gone, the belt line shaved, side pipes have been added and the bumper is now a carbon fiber split piece.

frankenmerc1

The largest change however is the electronically actuated 1 piece front end and headlights from… somewhere. The combination gives the car a bug , or Prowler like, look.

frankenmerc5

The door handles have also been shaved, and the rear bumper is gone too before a flaked orange paint job was added.

All the smoothing and lack of roof give the car a hefty looking rear end.

frankenmerc6frankenmerc3

The interior is pretty late 90s street rod and the Franken Merc name has been added to a few various places in the car, most notably here the dash, end of the filters. However the valve covers (not pictured currently but I will add it later) also wear the Franken Merc branding.

I’m not sure the number of hours in this car, or if the owner did it all himself, but its safe to say that there are no other Mercs out there quite like this one.

Event Coverage: The 2016 Niagara Truck And Tuner Expo

0

The Truck And Tuner Expo is one of the few events that Stance Is Everything supports by way of award sponsorship. Though I have not been able to make the event ever year –I’ve only been able to attend two– I know the organizers and support their vision so I contribute where I can.

Since their motivation comes from the right place, and they strive to make the event better year after year I always find a way to get some coverage on the site regardless of my personal goings on.

One of the main reasons TNT is so well supported among the community is that it is a truly diverse show that shows no discrimination or bias to one crowd or another.

It brings as many scenes together as possible which means there’s a great mix of both cars and trucks at every event.

Since it’s one of the few show s in the Niagara area –June Jitterbug being a notable exception– there are usually a number of cars at TNT I don’t see too often, or have plain never seen before.

A great example of that this year is this Pro Street Chevette.

I’ve always thought Chevettes had a decent amount of potential, being a small inexpensive rear wheel drive car, but their proclivity to rust, and their unremarkable OEM power plants have held them back.

I’m not sure what is under the hood of this car but it is safe to say that ‘unremarkable’ no longer applies and power is not an issue.

I’ll take any info I can on this one if you’ve got it!

Moving on from the Chevette, take a look at this Ford Ranger with a vintage F-100 front end conversion. If you remember this truck was at Northern Showdown incomplete, and instead of painting the car in a more traditional fashion the owner has chosen to air brush it.

This gives an already unique truck an even more defining look.

Speaking of Northern Showdown, the first time I saw this Miata was at that show. It’s a tidy Miata with a bit of forced induction under the hood for some added fun.

The answer is always Miata after all.

Gray is a bit of a wheel aficionado so any photo set he produces is full of detail sots of wheels. He does such a good job of it that I’m surprised he doesn’t have wheel companies knocking at his door.

Also it wouldn’t be a TNT Expo without a goat, don’t ask me why there is always a pet goat at this show, there just is. Furthermore it isn’t even always the same goat, but I digress.

TnT by Gray-0171Not just a sit around and twiddle your thumbs affair TNT has a few side events with the most popular being the limbo, flowed closely by the loudest exhaust. It’s all in good fun of course as, while there are awards, this show is typically drama free and laid back about them.

Glittery plastic is not the focus.

Going to end this post with a few more photos from Gray but except a couple more shots here and there to make their way to Facebook and Instagram over the next few days!

Project Why Wait: Today Was A Good Day

10

Well, actually a week ago yesterday was a good day, but keeping with the musically influenced titles today was a good day works better than two weeks ago a good day happened. Regardless, two Sundays ago the cab of Project Why Wait was removed from its original chassis and placed on the one that Jeff Wybrow and Dave Newberry built.

I’d been steadily chipping away at removing everything necessary for this transfer so that the tensile strength of some random component wasn’t tested when the cab was hoisted into the air.

If you remember the truck on the stock chassis is actually too tall to fit in any of the bays which meant we had to do the swap outside. Since it was just Blair, Chris Johnston (who also took a few photos because I forgot my camera), Brian Taylor, and myself we enlisted the help of a tractor to do the heavy lifting.

Seeing the cab floating in a tractor bucket was a little nerve-racking because that’s where the bulk of my money is so far.

Thankfully nothing happened (though the strap did break later that day moving something else) and the cab went down on the frame without incident.

With the cab on the shorter, air ride equipped chassis, everything looked so much smaller, and about 100 times cooler.

But there were no laurels to be rested on as the bed had to get roughly placed as well. The bed was, prior to us moving it in the bed of another truck underneath the front end of yet a different truck.

sie-gmc-update-4-9

I’ve actually owned the bed and running boards for a few months now, but didn’t feel it was worth mentioning until now because lets be honest that is a bit of a boring update on its own.

Body wise I need one of the small filler pieces between the running board and body then I have everything needed to make a short bed.

As you can tell the bed is, red(ish) and not blue, this will be rectified at a later date. The plan is to paint the bed all the colors we can currently see on the cab then patina it to match.

For now it sits on the frame in all its crooked glory.

After that the only natural next step was to mock a fender up and take a bit of a step back.

sie-gmc-update-4-10 sie-gmc-update-4-7

If you squint, and use a bit of imagination, it looks exactly like the renderings Chris did last year, and no, if you’re wondering that isn’t the truck fully aired out.

From here the rough order of operations is as follows; square up the bed via an inserted frame and mount it to the chassis, build shock mounts, mount the cab, build front shock mounts, order motor mounts, order a cross member, and then finally build a radiator core support mount the front end and hope everything lays where it should.

Then tear it all apart and send it out for paint.

I’m not sure when the next build day will be just yet but in the meantime I’ve been ordering a ton of parts and waiting for more. I should have a motor and transmission for next update but I’ll leave you all guessing on that for a bit longer.

Until then here’s a parting shot of Ash and I spending a little time in the truck.
