Event Coverage: The 2010 Toronto International Auto show

This Saturday I went to the Toronto International Auto show, which I used to go to all the time with my dad as a young buck but this is only my second year going as an ‘adult’.

Going the Saturday before the show closed was perhaps a mistake as the show got busier as the day went on making it harder and harder to take photos.

You could say I went to the 2010 Toronto International Auto Show and all I got were these crowded photos, however the show was a perfect way to add some event coverage, and therefore original content, to an otherwise event less winter season.

Oddly enough this truck was in the parking lot I parked at. Being pretty high this truck juxtaposed next to my car was pretty amusing to me. I couldn’t actually park beside it though as someone did the spot beside it an injustice by throwing up in it meaning that for me to get out I would have had to walk through vomit, gross.

This car needs some mudders to make the lift make sense... Mack emblems?

The Transformers Camaro

GM I have a bone to pick with you… how dare you show a Camaro SS Autobot edition with a automatic transmission. As a Transformers fan and a car enthusiast I do not condone such a travesty.

Regardless here is a pic of the emblem and offending transmission.

I'm curious what the cost of replacement emblems would be and how many will be stolen

Factory performance accessories.

It’s always nice to see what sort of performance accessories manufactures offer for their own vehicles. Things like these are espically nice for people who want to keep their factory warrenty in tact.

Concept Cars

It’s always cool to see concept cars at auto shows like these. It shows what the automotive designers really had in mind for their creation before it got watered down to meet the needs of the general public. Could you imagine where our cars would be today if more automobiles stayed in tact from concept to production?

This VW NCC hybrid concept proves that you can do Hybrid cars that don't look silly (look at you Toyota Prius)

This Soul based jeep like concept was pretty interesting, don't think Kia has a rugged frame though

The following Mazda 2 concepts are based on the upcoming to North America Mazda 2 Chassis

You can see the stock version in red, I think these have a decent chance in becoming reality

Though a little small for my needs I prefer these to the Fit/Yaris

I had considered getting my wheels powder coated a similar color

The Lexus LF - CH concept was looking pretty rad

I think the idea of hiding rear door handles on 5 doors should make its way to production

I didn’t take pictures of all the new cars at this years show because stock cars, as a rule, are fairly boring and have copious amounts of fender gap (do we really need fist size fender gaps on sedans?).

However I did take pictures on some of the more interesting models.

The more modified Coopers I see the more I like them

There was a pretty awesome classic Motor sports exhibit at the show. In all honesty my knowledge of racing is pretty sparse but I know when a car is worth stopping to snap a photo.

In addition to these there were also a few classic sports/muscle/rods strewn about the show which were there, I would like to think, just to please me.

Shelby Exhibit

Carrol Shelby is a boss. What this man has done for automotive enthusiasts everywhere is incredible. The Toronto International Auto show had a very well put together tribute to his accomplishments over the years. The aforementioned Jag was my favorite car of the show but this was my favorite part of the show.

Shelby was a big part of the vipers development, anyone remember the show Viper?

Event Coverage: Maxbimmer Autumn e30 meet 2009

Even though I don’t drive an e30 anymore I still have my ear to the ground when it comes to what’s going on in the community, so I watched this years thread about the Autumn e30 meet on max and figured it would be worth making an appearance. The turnout was awesome and I am really glad I made it out, it was a good excuse to kill an afternoon, reminisce, and do some ’spirited’ driving.

For whatever reason every e30 meet has a disproportionate amount of red e30s

Having owned an early model e30 myself I think they get a bum wrap on account of the US/Canadian spec bumpers but those brave enough to still rock them do a good job.

Event Coverage: CSCS Finale Part 1

I’ve been wanting to take a trip out to Cayuga for awhile and I have been wanting to go to a CSCS event for just as long so it figures that when I finally had the time to go to one the weather was a mixed bag of nuts. The weather eventually led to the cancellation of the drag racing and had the show and shine guys spent more time drying their cars than showing them but I still took quite a few pics. I am going to start breaking up my event coverage into easier to load pieces (about 30 photos per post) so this is part 1 of the coverage; Random stuff, Drag, Paddock Cars, and Drifters.

Event Coverage: Cruisin For The Cure 2009

On September 13th, the day after Import fest, the 3rd annual Cruisin’ for a Cure charity car show took place at Chingauacousy park in Brampton Ontario. I have mentioned time and time again that I am a fan of charity car shows so I make a point to hit up as many as I can. Cruisin’ for the cure had a pretty decent turn out (although some cars had left by the time I arrived) and a few very unique cars.

The Possum
I saw this car on the road awhile back and wondered what the heck was going on a mural with some dudes face on the front of a tour bus, weird. Well turns out the Possum is a country singer names George Jones, or no show Jones when he is drinking.

This is the first time I have been to importfest in probably 9 years. Last time I went Randys Sparres e30 was still around. This show is hyped as the biggest car show in Canada so I guess my expectations were really high. I’ve been to a lot of shows this summer so that lead to me having seen a lot of the cars already. However I had not seen a lot of the models already so I took lots of pictures of them to make up for it haha. Let’s go.

Sometimes I find car shows and sometimes they find me, the latter happened on September 5th when I stumbled across the 20th Annual Kirkfield Car show and Parade while camping with my girlfriend. She just got a Cannon 50D so I got to relax while someone else took the pictures this time around. A vacation indeed.

Cadillac Northstar v8 motors have been turning up in the weirdest places lately, first that Chevy Cavalier from Scrape By The Lake and now this 53 or so Eldorado Convertible. After my “Holy Shit” reaction the owner showed interest in me and we conversed for awhile about the car.

He told me that he got this car for a steal because the swap wasn’t running and all it needed was a sensor replaced to work with the engine harness used during the swap.

He also went on to tell me that he had it appraised at 150 grand and that it was for sale so he could redo his other ride, Orange Crush, I really wish I could afford this unique Caddy.

Event Coverage: Extreme Invasion

The second show I went to this past weekend was Extreme Invasion. Even though the weather was looming all day and hurt the turnout a little bit the show was still decent. The big feature at this show (at least for me) were the SPL (Sound Pressure Level) cars. Prior to this weekend I never got a chance to see one of these contests in person or sit in an SPL car and even though my ears were telling me Monday morning that was a bad idea it was still something I had to experience.

Event Coverage: Hyper Meeting 2009

I got a chance to tag along to the Toronto Subaru Clubs Annual charity show and shine BBQ in Mississauga on Saturday with my friend Kev, I always have a good time at charity shows since everyone is friendly and in a great mood. None of that super competitive feel. It also helped that all of the winners were picked by the crowd. The weather looked pretty dodgy aft first but managed to hold out all day. Before I got my current car I was looking at Subaru’s but they were just out of my price range, now I wish I saved up a little more money.

The KTC crew is a group of friends that hang out at Krispy Kreme Donuts and Timmies on Thursday nights. I might invade one of the meets one of these days, my car can almost pass for a Subaru.

Event Coverage: Street Classics Pre 1955 Show

I have been to a few Street Classics shows before and I always have a good time so when I saw a flier for their Pre 1955, Hot Rods – Roadsters -Rat Rods, show I made sure to stick it on my fridge so I would remember to cover it.

While the show was smaller than previous Street Classics shows I had been too (due to age specification) the quality of cars was still amazing.

Vintage trucks just have a certain look about them that makes them unique. I think it has to do with the balance of round fenders with strong body lines.
