Event Coverage: S&P 3 – Sayonara Summer

On Sunday October 3rd in odd, but appropriate, weather the GTA car community said Sayonara to Summer with an event put on by the good people at Stretch and Poke.

When I showed up (late) some of cars had come and gone but from the coverage I have seen on the Scraped Crusaders and courtesy of Gawa on JDMR the event was a great success.

That’s not to say that the turnout was bad when I arrived the smaller group actually made it a little easier for all of us to get together and talk about cars, the weather, and the scene.

Imports

The import turn out was large as usual

spacers — Spacers would help this car immensely.

gilbert — Gilbert runs the Scraped Crusaders if you couldn't tell

mazdaspeed_protege_front — Creative sticker bomb and nice wheels

mazdaspeed_protege_rear — I saw this car for sale on kijiji the other day for 9 grand

stickers — and added a Stretch and Poke to the collection

worked905 — The worked 905 cover Civic passed through

silvia_1 — More of the super flush Silvia

silvia_3 — Note the people checking the fitment out rear

stanley — Stanley's Evo... the only Ontario plated one I have seen

dave_rear — Dave is the one behind the whole day

mike_front — Mike's G35, probably the last time it will be seen all year

mike_rear — He has a few changes in mind for next year but I won't spoil it here

Stancefactory

Mike and Jay from Stancefactory rolled out to the meet and anyone who was at H20i might remember these guys for drifting (and getting caught doing so) on the strip.

zimmie_1 — If you need your BMW down and out visit these guys

zimmie_2 — Mike's car on his new wheels which really make the car

mystikal_1 — The wheels from Jay's m3 have made their way onto his M Roadster

From what I hear there were a lot of VWs and Audis at the meet all day in addition to the BMW and Benz crowd.

merc_190 — The 190 I spotted in the field at CSCS

This clean e30 sedan makes me miss mine...

vw_2 — These wheels were brighter in person

champvw_1 — First time I have seen this Golf in it's new skin

susannah_1 — Now that the car is a new color I wonder if the wheels are going to change too

silver_jetta_3 — This car caught my eye as soon as I rolled up, kudos to the owner well done

Theme Tuesday: MKII Golfs

I was over on Supermade last night looking at all the nice Volkswagens he posts when it hit my like a brick that I had yet do do a Theme Tuesday dedicated solely to the MKII Golf.

I can’t believe it’s taken me this long, these cars a staple of the low lifestyle and are always at shows and meets.

mk21 — I love the fitment on this car, the rear especially

mk24 — No gap all around and perfectly flush, love it.

mk26 — I don't think MK2's on beebs will ever get old

mk29 — Beautiful rootbeer Mark II from Supermade

mk211 — Red on red is not a color combination you see very often

mk212 — Don't see MKII's on wires much either

mk215 — Everyone knows this moment... hoping a car isn't going to come destroy you as you ease out

mk210 — The color, the bay, the wheels, the photo, all win

mk217 — A little humor to end things off

Without you all, the readers, this blog would be me writing about cars to myself and that wouldn’t be a whole lot of fun. When I first started this I had no idea how well it would go but the support I have received so far both locally and abroad has been absolutely fantastic.

Event Coverage CSCS Finale – Part 3

Even though this show was just last weekend with the way the weather has changed (and the amount of time it’s taken me to post all of the parts) it seems like it was longer than that.

Most of the cars in today’s coverage are probably stored away by now or will soon be in winter mode so here is a look at one of the last show and shines of the season.

This CSCS had quite a few cars that I had yet to see at a CSCS event which helped add some variety mixed in with the show regulars.

WTF Friday: Look Another Front End Swap

These front swaps are getting a little out of hand. Sure many (like today’s) are executed fairly competently, meaning that the body work doesn’t look like ass, but the final results never do the shop that did the work any sort of justice.

1994 Mustang, meet your 2008 face, sorry you didn’t get a v8 in the process.

Site Updates

The biggest, and most important, site update I am going to talk about this week is this:

SEMA 2010

My media application to attend has been approved and I am very, very excited. I never imagined I would be going to a SEMA without hitching a ride on someone else’s coat tails so to be able to do it on my own is incredible.

I still have to book my flight, accommodations and all that good stuff but the hardest part is over with. I expect to come back with an obscene amount of coverage, can’t wait!

I decided to take a quick break from the CSCS coverage for a moment and live vicariously through Tucson AZ native Will (@solefoodOG), who you might remember as the owner a very low bug from the friendly rivalry post in 2009.

Will recently picked up a bagged Ranger and took it and his camera to the 2010 West Cost Nationals, and being the nice guy that he is sent me the link to his flickr so I could run some of his photos.

I gotta say I am pretty jealous of what the weather looks like in AZ, as it’s nothing but gray skies here in Toronto 🙁

Event Coverage: 2010 CSCS Finale – Part 2

As I’ve mentioned the 2010 CSCS Finale was the first time I had been to Cayuga and the weather had fully cooperated which meant that the track saw a lot of fast action all day.

Personally the track action is the main reason I make the drive out to CSCS as it’s an added bonus on top of the show and shine that I can’t take in at your average show.

It’s also a lot of fun to shoot.

Time Attack

Tried my hand at more time attack panning shots as I am not at the level to try it for drifting yet.

cat — This Caterham shoots huge flames, I missed them.

civic_stage4 — Time attack looks like a lot of fun...

civic_white — It brings out a lot of Civic drivers

civic_yellow — EK sedan on the far straight

corner — Everyone is about on the same line

corner_2 — More often than not that red VW was on the track

This shot inspired yesterdays Theme Tuesday

vw_pan — I wish I framed this a bit better, probably the best pan of the day

s2000_1 — This shot wasn't too bad either

Drift

Drifting is always exciting to watch but at the 2010 finale I knew a number of the drivers which made the battles even more exciting.

Big props to Chris De La Cruz for making the final four!

union — Union Autoclub knows how to make an entrance

drift_liam_1 — This battle had to be run a few times, it was pretty close

drift_loughead_2 — Loughhead and St John battling it out

drift_tandem_3 — This was the first battle I saw all day actually

drift_loughead_3 — Lougghead sending smoke signals

drift_loughead_4 — Getting loose during the demo

drift_loughead_1 — He really carried a lot of speed and angle through this portion of the course

drift_tandem_2 — Mike Martiono up on three

drift_jesse_lineup — As far as I know this was Jesse's (left) first event and he did pretty well

drift_jesse_2 — His entries were pretty solid normally hitting hay bale

drift_jesse_fire — Somethings hot under there

drift_jesse_lead — He easily made it past this round

drift_jesse_lead_3 — Loughhead gave him some tough competition though

drift_jesse_lead_2 — Sliding on the back half of the course

drift_fiddy_2 — Fiddy and Loughhead are always consistent and make the finals

drift_fiddy_1 — Fiddy loves to get rid of tires

drift_chris_1 — Chris had a great day in his e30, qualified 14th then made it all the way to the final 4

drift_chris_2 — All those people randomly standing there are so brave haha

Yesterday I mentioned that the 2010 CSCS finale had an absolutely stellar turnout, the best of any CSCS I had attended personally.

There were cars everywhere, on the track, in the pits, and all over the visitor parking, it seemed like everyone and there mom was out at Cayuga.

Today I have 30 plus photos of what I saw off the track and away from the show and shine, few unique/rarity’s here.

Pulsars

I guess Pulsars are starting to pop up more and more around Ontario, I wonder what they go for.

pulsar_1 — I wouldn't mind taking one of these out on the track, looks like a lot of fun

pulsar_3 — I guess being affiliated with an autobody shop it ought to be

Drifters

Those who go sideways, we salute you.

marin — Marin ended up with some brake trouble and couldn't compete but he was in the demo later

ryan — Ryan's Nissan powered e30, don't see him on maxbimmer much anymore 😛

Originally this Theme Tuesday was just going to be low cars having trouble getting over steep grades which lead to a wheel being hung in the air.

However after looking at (and taking) photos of cars getting up on three wheels while cornering I decided to combine both ways of three wheeling into this Theme Tuesday.

The CSCS finale was yesterday and it hands down the best CSCS I’ve been to so far, the lack of rain in the forecast combined with it being the last event of the year drew lots of people out to Cayuga.

While I didn’t have a chance to really get into editing the near card full of photos I took when I got home I did make a point to edit these photos, because not only was this car unique but it was also quite swift on the track.

I’m not a purist by any means, in fact I think as long as it doesn’t disrupt the natural balance of the car too people should put whatever motor they want under they hood of their car and be damned what the manufacturer thinks.

This MGB is an example of just that. The stock motor took a hike and a rotary plant (13b?) found it’s way in.
