Featured Ride: Dominic’s Focus SVT

9

Anyone that’s grown up riding (or skating) was probably told at some point prior to getting their license that as soon as they got the keys to their first car they would no longer be interested in spending hours on end at their favorite street spot, skate park, or set of trails and would instead be interested solely in automobiles.

While that is true for some, those of us who love bikes and boards as much as we love cars always knew that both would have a significant presence in our lives.

Dominic is a perfect example of this, he’s a monster on a bike, one heck of a fabricator, and up until a few weeks ago (when he sold it) the owner of this very proper looking US spec Ford Focus SVT.

Not knowing a lot about the ins and outs of these Ford hatchbacks the first thing I noticed about this car were the Work Ryver wheels.

At 17×9 and 17×9.5 and finished in all black (with gold accenting on the bolts and center caps) these wheels suit Dom’s SVT much better than one might have thought looking at all of the specs on paper.

With the car being as low as it is, thanks to the KW V3 coilover setup, these wheels had to be wrapped in 205/40/17 rubber in order to clear the rolled fenders, and even still the sidewalls have been shaved clean in some spots from the more than occasional rub.

Because the suspension and tire setup on this car is so dialed it looks like these wheels where made for the car but initially they didn’t fit at all. In fact In order to get them to fit a 4×114.3 hub conversion was required.

While in some cases this can lead to another set of wheels being purchased as the driving force behind Dominant Engineering, a company that provides a wide range of custom parts for the Ford Focus and Mazda 3, Dominic had no problem quickly fabricating a set if hub adapters to get these wheels to bolt up.

Since the tools were already out Dominic also fabricated a very nice 304 stainless steel exhaust setup for his car.

Once he was done under the car Dom turned to the outside where he got rid of the US bumpers and side skirts and replaced them with Euro models. The front bumper and grill are ST170 units (a matching badge is on the hatch), and the rear bumper and side skirts are from the European RS collection.

At this point you have probably already noticed the roof rack on the top of the car which isn’t just for show, or a place to mount more stickers. Dom’s super talented on a bike and there is proof below with a video of the FU Lets Ride 2 rail jam where he finished second.

Having the chance to feature another riders car is basically the perfect match for me so I want to thank Dom for letting me do it and I have to give him a second shout out for making my Dominant Engineering camber arms which will be a big help in my fitment goals this year.

Theme Tuesdays: RIP Rusty

15

This is wild, just last week I was talking to my friends Jay and Mike at Stance Factory, who had seen Rusty and Mike in person last year, about the ‘presence’ this car had and now it’s all over.

As a a regular BMW forum reader when Mike first started with this car I remember a lot of the earlier phases of this car quite well, so while I was going to do a BMW 2002 Theme Tuesday today I figured a Rusty one would be more appropriate.

I can’t think of too many other cars that have gone through so many changes and amassed such a following that were not from a movie, owned by a celebrity, or built by a high dollar shop.

This photo takes me back to the whatever forum was before r3vlimited days (e30sport?)
For some of you this might be the highest you have ever seen this car
These type A's are just one of many awesome wheels that have been on this car
Rusty panels start to make their appearance, this stirred up the purists pretty good
HRE's, rusty hood, boom box, this photos awesome
These rims were short lived, I actually forgot about them
Personally I wasn't quite to sure about this combo
To me the car was as close to traditional perfect as it gets here
Then Rusty got killed for the first time and came back, well, rusty
This was perhaps when rusty gained the most followers and my least favorite stage personally
However this is also the stage where I found Rusty on basically every forum
After dieing for a second time Rusty was rebuilt like this, which brought me back around
The air ride and Supra motor were big ways of getting my interest
Until last night I had no idea these are actually BBS prototypes of Work Equips
This phase had a lot of people talking, both good and bad
There was no denying that this picture was cool though regardless of what you thought of the roof
Ashes to ashes

Obviously the most important thing is that no one got hurt in the blaze, and everyone can move on.

Great job on the build Mike and all the best brushing of the ashes, can’t wait to see what’s next.

If you want to know the full story of what happened to Rusty check out this thread on Stanceworks, and if you want to read the entire build click here.

Guest Coverage: Malaga Auto Museum

9

Stance Is Everything’s own intentional correspondent Oliver Pickard recently too his Misses (or she took him) to the Malaga Automotive Museum in Spain, while he was there he took a bunch of photos and emailed them over to me.

While most of these cars are one hundred percent stock and none of them anywhere near slammed there is absolutely no way I couldn’t share these photos with the class.

I mean really how could I not share photos of a Jaguar XK 140 and Aston Martin DB4 with you guys?

This car was a little, well a lot, out of place compared to the ones below
BMW went from this... all the way to what they have now..
Vintage Bugatti
Cars looked cooler when they were built without hitting pedestrians in mind
1936 Lancia Astura... I know nothing about this car but looks like a fine machine
Supercharged Cord, another car I know little about
Jaguar XK 140
And now a little American Iron
Model A motor covered in crystals, why? Because.
If any car deserves to be in a museum its a db4

Thanks for the photos Ollie, I’ve got some cars to Wiki now.

Lower than a snakes belt buckle

I’ve already shared a few of my favorite Mazda Speed3s here with you, SumThaiGuys white one on SSR Long Champs and the Fat and Flush black one on 17×9 RPF-1s, are two recent examples and I’m about to throw this one from Black Mamba Motor Sports into the mix because it’s another speed3 I think looks really, really good.

This car is a great example of what can be accomplished with a realistic budget, a healthy drop, and a little originality when choosing a paint color for your wheels.

Looks like a car you wouldn't want to meet in a back alley
This Mazda 3 wears these Evo wheels better than the Mitsubishi ever did
The money shot, this really shows just how low this car really is

The car is on KW variant 1 coilovers and the wheels (if you don’t recognize them) are 18×8.5 Evo X Enkeis fit with 245/40/18 tires.

More info on this car can be found in his thread here on Mazda 3 forums and I was altered to the recent photos of this car via Mazda Fitment’s facebook page.

I’m still a little jealous of the speed 3 being able to tuck more aggressive wheels up front, just sayin’…

WTF Friday: Legit Kit

9

It looks like since I left high school my auto teacher has been busy, really busy. He’s moved on from turning clapped out Pontiac Fieros into Lamborghini Countach, and Ferrari 355 Spiders, replicas and is now creating full tube chassis BMW V12 (M70 I think) powered Diablo replicas.

Helping build a Lamborghini kit had a big impact on my life as a car enthusiast so it’s awesome to see that he’s still working away at it, and still passing on the love and knowledge of cars to other impressionable youth who would rather be putting welding burns in their shirts than learning calculus.

Mr. Dinner, or I suppose I can call him Jim now, spent a hell of a lot of time making sure that this replica would be the best one he’s done yet and has documented a lot of it on his blog kwikercars.com.

Door hinges, interior pieces, double hinged wipers, transmission bits for the v12, and the exhaust are just some of the things he engineered himself to make this car look and perform as close to the real thing as he could.

Anyone with enough money can go out and buy a super car but to build one yourself with your own to hands in your own garage is something I respect.

One thing I remember from high school is that these shells never look right from the factory
Every panel gap needs some sort of addressing.
He made sure the angel of the doors matched that of the engine cover
The BMW v12 has been covered to disguise its origin
He even printed his own idiot lights for the custom dash cluster
The interior
Fresh out of the paint booth
Damn near complete
Gotta say it's pretty convincing
Setup for the video below

Site updates

I’ve been talking to Mat at Seche Media this week and the store should be completely restocked by Monday.

Once it is and I do a quick product shot update to the store I am going to be putting some things on sale late next week or early the following week.

Those of you who visit the site (as oppose to just subscribing via RSS) may have also noticed that the site’s header has changed slightly to incorporate the rotator on the main page.

It took awhile for me to actually get around to it but I have finally started rolling out design tweaks. I’m going to continue to change a little more over the weeks to come.

Nothing drastic just a little spit shine.

Flashback Friday

Since I got rid of it here is a throwback to the Pantera that served as the header car of this site for so long.

If anyone has more info on this I would love to have it

My body’s finally healing so maybe I’ll get some BMX shred on this weekend…

Mini Feature: Jujhar’s Golf

11

Because it’s been winter here in the GTA most of the recent features have showcased cars from sunnier climates, however as our seasons gets closer and events are being announced left right and center it’s time I turned the spotlight back towards local rides.

This Golf is a perfect example of the level in which a lot of the local VW enthusiasts operate and when it arrived in my inbox I was immediately impressed with what I saw.

The beauty of this cars is in it’s simplicity. The changes to the exterior have been kept to a minimum to avoid looking tacky or overly flashy, and of those exterior modifications the only thing that isn’t OEM are the molded 20th anniversary replica side skirts.

Everything else is straight from the VW factory: a R32 front bumper, OEM hatch spolier, and R-line rear bumper.

Satisfied with the exterior of the car at this point, Jujhar got down to business in the ride height and rolling stock department by installing a set of coil overs and 18×8.5 and 18×10 BBS RSII’s which were bolted on with a set of adapters.

Those modifications yielded the look below:

However as eye popping as that look was Jujhar decided to go for jaw dropping by making the switch from static to bagged with an air ride setup made up of HPS Premium bags up front and Firestone bags out back.

A week or so after getting the air ride components this VW was fully plumbed, wired, and able to squat down to where the fenders sit right on top of the Falken 452 tires (215/40 Front and 225/40 rear) that are stretched carefully over those timeless BBS rims.

The car, which was finished last year, looked incredible roaming the streets of Toronto and should look just as good this year provided it stays the same.

Because these pictures over a year old there is no guarantee that this car will look the same this year. So if this is really a preview or feature truly remains to be seen.

Either way I can’t wait to see Jujhar’s car in person in 2011.

Cruisin’ Solo

9

I’ve been a fan of this  Toyota Celsior (Lexus LS430) since I first saw it at last years SEMA show. Since then I’d only seen a couple additional photos of it online but not as many solo feature photo shoots as I would have expected a car of this caliber to have.

In fact just this Monday I was looking for high resolution photos of the car to show Mat at Seche Media the vinyl wrap job and had a hard time coming up with photos that were close enough to really showcase the matte white color that’s on the car.

Thankfully that all changed this Tuesday.

As fate would have it bright and early Tuesday morning a new set of photos popped up in my facebook feed with all the detailed shots of the car I could ever want.

While I’m not an LS expert by any means I’ve seen a couple in my travels both online and first hand and I can honestly say that this is one of the cleanest, most unique, and well put together ones I’ve come across to date.

Both set’s of wheels that I’ve seen on this car, the blacked out Forgestars and these Works, have done nothing but compliment the rest of the work done all around the car including the cars look which is a combination of high class parts from various vendors including Job Design and BC Racing.

The Job Design body work really speaks for itself
I really like how the body of the car has a really restrained color pallet...
...but then details like the hood sash and gloss white vinyl really pop out
The subtle trunk spoiler is also another great touch to the rear end along with the unique pin striping
Close up of the Work kicks
The Works in these photos are actually a friends which he was using to test a more aggressive offset
Not sure what Solo has planned next, but I have a feeling its significant...

The best part about this car (other than the fact it’s a daily) is that the owner is not not only a blogger like myself (who’s blog Go With SOLO I have mentioned before), but he is also a super nice guy that’s always down to exchange a few words online regarding the wide variety of automotive subjects I throw his way.

I’ve yet to show him a muscle car from here he has not seen in person or heard about, but I’m working on that…

Theme Tuesdays: Women of the BKK Motor Show

4

When I was going through the photos Jeff sent in for yesterdays coverage I realized that he took a lot of photos of women, I would say the ratio of cars to women was pretty close to 50/50.

While I have only done one other ‘women of’ Theme Tuesday I felt that with the material I was given another one was well warranted.

My apologies in advance to the female readers once again 🙂

It’s pretty interesting to see the differences between auto show models here and auto show models there actually, and the difference between auto show (or motor show) models and Import models is astounding.

As this wasn't your typical aftermarket show the models were dressed much classier
Chillin'
Jackson tribute with the one glove?
Perhaps she is wondering if her photo will turn up on a Canadian blog
Looks like they are trying to outdo Snooki with that hair!
Are car show dresses like Prom dresses? Only worn once?
This reminds me of a popular animated .gif
Lotus came correct with their models
Volvo also selected some nice models
I think I posted this woman already...
Bored.
Not quite as bored
Pretty sure this is another Lotus model who could talk circles around me all things Lotus related
Seems like a lot of models were off doing semi private photo shoots
Jeff did a good job of hiding the other photographer
In an effort to not objectify women anymore I will say nothing
End things with a lady in red, front shot suspiciously missing

Back to cars next week, probably.

Guest Coverage: Bangkok Motor Show

4

My friend Jeff recently got out of dodge and skipped to Thailand for an extended vacation, on one hand this sucks because he was a blast to work and one of the best bosses I ever had, but on the flip side it rocks because now I have someone out in Thailand who is willing to go to events (that have women) and take pictures of the cars (and the women).

Here are some photos from his recent trip to the 32nd Annual Bangkok Motor Show. Pretty cool to see what a motor show looks like in different country.

Random Stuff

Ha! Looks like the track after I have been through it
from the pictures he sent their was a lot of stage shows going on
BC racing was there, and it looks like with some of their made to order rims
Hello Kitty was also in attendance?

Scooters and bikes

Wolf pack?
I am not really a scooter guy but this one looks alright
I wonder what the production version of this bike will actually look like
Don't post two wheels often here but these ones looked pretty neat
Or this one

Cars

Drop top Mini Cooper S
Not entirely sure what this car is, Asian Markets only perhaps
Another shot of it, the front end looks out of place.
What the heck, a wide body Cruze?
I
Back end of the MF
Looking forward to seeing what people do with the 370
I saw one of these loose in a footrace across a parking lot once

VIP

Thailand has a thriving VIP scene that at times can get pretty close to, if not over the top. Quality builds all the time though.

Thailands VIP scene is pretty damn crazy
Still on the fence about oni-camber
I think this is a Toyota Crown
I could get down with this one though I think...
This car makes up for it's more typical camber with loud paint

You may have noticed that women are noticeably absent from this post, even though I mentioned them in the opening paragraph, that’s because I will be posting them tomorrow in a women of Bangkok Motor Show Theme Tuesday.

It’s Amazing

9

It’s pretty amazing that even though e30 m3 has not been produced for years, which is causing the buy in for one to steadily increase, that there are still a bumper crop of clean ones being built today.

Many of which I have never seen on the internet before.

This m3 is setup almost dead in the middle of function and form and no one other than Johnny Cash has walked the line better.

Picture perfect profile
BBS RS wheels, put that ish on everything
Gorgeous
CF Pole positions never looked so good.

This car belongs to fourmotion on s14.net and I think these photos are behind the scenes shots of an upcoming PBMW feature. Spotted these photos on a few different random picture threads on automotive and bmx forums

Pretty sure I am coming up on a decade of being a member on various e30 forums. Wild.
