Theme Tuesdays: Pinup Girls

12

Pinup style models, (and Rockabilly – esque) women are something I never really see at shows around here, even the classic ones I go to.

Whenever I see photos of them online I’m a fan for two reasons the first is because it’s something different than your typical yoga pants and bikini top fare, and the second is that wherever a pin up style model is a bad ass classics is never too far behind.

I know it hasn’t been that long since I posted women on a Tuesday but I’m in between a few car themes right now and didn’t have time over the weekend to finalize them so you guys are just going to have to suffer through this theme.

Hopefully it doesn’t traumatize you too bad…

David Perry came up a lot maybe I should buy this DVD
Balancing act
See what I mean about a sick car not too far behind?
Need a lift?
This looks like the Nicki Minaj of pinups
I like a great many things about this photo
...
This photo makes me think of Vegas
Damn hubcaps always falling off..
Seconds after this picture was taken the guy in the back noticed the woman and his significant other got mad
Is that a BMW Bavaria?
I should be mad at this photo for reminding me of winter
Classic car and pinup style
I need more info on this hearse contraption
Not a car you would expect to see paired with a pinup girl
Chillin'

A lot of these photos came from a tumblr I quite like called Motor Models

I need more of this

I saw this on Supermade (one of my favorite dub blogs) a few weeks ago and my jaw dropped. I’ve always loved Corrados and Supermade seems to consistently post some of the best looking ones I have ever seen.

This car is simple and sweet. Clean, low, and flush, deadly combination.

These cars have such a great looking side profile
Gorgeous.
Interior looks all business
I need to hit up more VW events

I wish I had a few more pictures of this car because it looks to be a contender for the Fat and Flush category but it’s a little hard to tell based on these pictures.

If someone has anymore or this is your car holler.

WTF Friday: Furious Friday

6

So Fast Five opens today (here anyway) and I’m going to see it tonight with a few friends, I have not seen one in the theaters since the second so hopefully it’s enjoyable.

As I am sure some of you are going as well and because it’s inevitable that the parking lot will be full of interesting cars I had an idea: Everyone who is going to a showing and wants to win something snap some photos of the most WTF worthy ride (good or bad) that you see and send them in for next weeks WTF Friday.

The person with the most ridiculous picture (as chosen by commenters) will receive some sort of prize, probably some stickers but perhaps something else.

Now just so this post has some content here are a couple videos I was watching today. They have nothing to do with Fast Five but the second was is particularly amusing.
AAC’s truck From Scrape 2007

This came up in related videos, pretty sure they didn’t mean to go all the way back like that, pleased the crowd though.

Full features may be on hold for a little bit as I am writing two pieces on my auto teachers Diablo replica that I got to see in person this week. Because one is going to be a consideration for a magazine feature I should make it a priority. The other which I will work on after is for here, not quite a feature but more into the mind of a very resourceful person.

One that’s wrapped up I’ve got a few other local cars check out for features including but not limited to my friend Keith’s Model T:

The article on my first track experience should be up next week as well.

Car wise I dropped my tires off with Mike from curbed.ca as my wheels are ready to go. I have yet to see them in person yet but he sent me some Black Berry pics which look really good.

Here is a bit of a teaser, I kept the center color vague for now until I can take some high res photos of the final product.

I don't think I could have near as good a job by hand

Flashback Friday

Because I was talking about the Fast and The Furious I might as well take it back to the last time I posted a car from the movie which was a Theme Tuesday on FD Rx-7s.

I am not even going to lie I liked a lot of the cars from the first movie even though they are eye sores now.

*Hangs head in shame*

The Charger will always be sick however.

A bunch of hardworking Canadians: Part 2

8

Last week the spotlight was on a couple of Canadian drift builds I’ve been following whereas this week I’ve got on a few daily driver and show car builds to share.

Similar to part 1 the builds this week run the gamut of manufactures but two things remain the same, all of them are Canadian, and all of them should look very sick once the dust settles.

John’s Widebody Mazda3

I’ve actually known about the wide body Mazda 3 project John (from Exclusive Wheel and Tire) has been working on for at least 6 months but I was sworn to secrecy (kinda) for most of the winter because he wasn’t quite sure whether or not to show progress or just do a big reveal when it was done.

This build got of to a bit of a shaky start with the original wide body manufacturer shading off (with some of Johns money), but now progress seems to be going quite quick as a local body shop has taken on the task of building him a completely custom wide body from scratch.

Very interested in the end result of this project and whether or not John goes with the color he has been hinting at over gtalk.

John's turbo 3 pre-rebuild
Curious to see how this bumper looks like in the wide body stage
If this isn't a teaser I don't know what is

Jonathan’s 350z

This Jon hails from Quebec and is working on quite the project, pre winter tear down his 350z was already a head turner that was capable of putting down 451hp and 397 foot pounds of torque to the wheels.

While this would have satisfied a lot of people (self included) Jon decided he wanted to lower and wider so he spent most of the cold weather months installing a bag over coil setup.

Jon’s got a few more mod’s to finish up before the season starts in Quebec and he says a full shoot is coming once it’s done so hopefully he sends those through when everything is ready to go.

Jon's car before major renovations
Mock up of how his wheels we be fitting after the re barrel
I think the art of lip meeting fender is known as Tsuraichi
Rear fitment test the specs are 19x12.5 in the rear -6, 19x10 +8 in the front
John's Willwoods and bag over coil setup
John aired out on his spare set of wheels
When not working on his car he collects wheels

Jon is documenting his entire build which you can follow here.

Aidan’s VIP IS300

Aidan’s kept at his VIP build over the winter, carefully choosing a few new additions for his Lexus and his most significant for 2011 is going to be his wheels and tire setup.

He’s decided to dip into very aggressive IS300 territory by switching from 18×8 +21, and 18×9 +25 to 18×8.5 +27 and 18×10 +24.

I got a chance to see his wheels last night after their curbed.ca treatment and they look very good.

Test fitting with wheels slightly less aggressive than his
Healthy pull to get things fitting nice
I know it's not Aidan's style but murdered out doesn't look bad
Front tire fitment, new rubber from his new sponsor gbtires.ca
Rear tire fitment, lots of stretch

Got a build going on you want shown some love? Send it on through and I will see what I can do 😉

JDM Ev(g)o

5

Spotted this on JDM Ego, a blog I have been reading for awhile now thanks to it’s combination of nice cars and occasional bmx content (run one of there plate covers too), and found it completely share worthy.

The owner of this car clearly knows what it takes to build a super clean looking, functional car.

I’m not an Evo buff but I know what I like and I like what I see.

No stretch here
Love the diffuser, doesn't look obnoxious
So I did a 'dat ass' post but I think maybe I should do a front end post too

Check out the original post on JDM Ego here

Coincidentally I was on some Evo boards the other day reading a very long thread debating a car that I have posted here before.
It was interesting to say the least….

Theme Tuesdays: Steelies

20

This one’s all teamwork. Nash suggested it on facebook, I started working on it, and Ollie came through huge with the final touches.

Steel wheels work on a variety of vehicles, are cheap, and fairly strong. I hear they are a bit on the heavy side however.

The cheap, light, strong triangle strikes again.

The more typical fare is from my collection, a lot of the more interesting and lesser seen platforms are from Ollie’s collection.

Lowballers.
This might be one of the raddest bugs I have ever seen
I'll take one
One of these too
Street Karnage reppin for the Volvo lovers
Scraped Crusaders scrappin through
Mean
I thought monsters only came out at night?
Some of the biggest steals I've seen, I know some BMW guys may not dig
Wagon mafia
So simple, so nice
Another brick
Hemi.
Polish makes everything look a little better
Ollie's collection is sure diverse as hell
I don't post enough MR2s
Sick little Miata
The first time I saw banded steels was on a vw
Just simple
This just oozes style
I think I have some more pics of this, should dig them up as Ollie reminded me
You should know by now Ollie will always sneak a Mini in
Ollie dares anyone to say this is not awesome, I agree.

To be continued….

Thanks again for the help Ollie.

Featured Ride: Rob’s International Loadstar

46

The first time I saw this truck it was surrounded by rows and rows of low riders and mini trucks but the second I laid eyes on it tunnel vision took hold and everything else instantly became a blur.

I must have circled this truck at least a dozen times and stood by it for at good ten minutes and still had no idea just how much work the owner Rob put into transforming this 1977 International Loadstar from a standard work vehicle into the pavement scraper you see today.

From the front bumper back everything on this truck is the work of extremely talented fabricators and builders. The floor and firewall are completely scratch built as are the suicide door hinges, and all of the front body seams have been welded and smoothed shut to give the body cab a clean refined look.

In addition to all of the unnecessary bits being shaved from the exterior the factory 1977 lighting has been addressed all around the vehicle. On the roof pedestal mounted lights have been added and on the sides and rear the accessory lights have been swapped to LED units, last but not least HIDs now sit in the headlight position under the chrome visors replacing the factory equipped sealed beams that lived their previously.

Beneath the cab the frame is a work of art now serving double duty as the trucks 25 gallon air tank in addition to its backbone. The 3 x 1/4″ wall frame has been completely sealed shut allowing air to travel through it to the 10, 000lb transport truck air bags via 3/8″ steel half lines and 3/4″ valves.

The suspension that parks this truck in the weeds is a custom solid beam/3 link setup and the semi truck wheels have been milled down to 22″ and 24″ (from 22.5″ and 24.5″ inches) giving Rob the ability to run Falken FK452 255/35zr22m, and 255/30zr24 tires.

Under the hood of this Chrysler Yellow behemoth lives a 7.3L Ford IDI diesel motor pulled from 1991 E350 (which also donated its front hubs and brakes) that’s been given a power upgrade via a Ford Power stroke turbo and and Dodge intercooler.

The motor now up on power the motor has no problem moving the truck down the road while powering the York engine driven compressor.

While it’s fairly easy for me to describe the modifications done to this vehicle I can’t really find the words to convey the presence that it has in person. Its size alone demands a certain type of respect.

Thankfully talented St. Catherines based photographer Steve Wharton (the man behind E11even:11: Photography) has been able to capture almost all of this trucks essence in these fantastic photos.

Steve and I have been waiting to work together for awhile now and 2011 should see a lot of collaboration between Stance Is Everything and E11even:11: Photography. If these photos are an example of the type of work he produces then we should all be in for a treat.

I am stoked to have a photographer like Steve on board and have no doubt that the kind of work he submits for this year will be second to none.

I hope you are as excited as I am.

Random Dopeness: Volume 6

4

I almost completely forgot I mentioned on Friday I was going to post today.

At some point between doing my taxes, and cleaning the house, I remembered. I suppose I needed a distraction from those two mundane tasks.

Here are a couple of my random favorites.

International Harvester given the dump, steel, pin stripe treatment
Wicked Mayhems Luv from s10forum is out prowling the streets
Just chillin in your local Walmart parking lot, no big deal
Been kind of digging nice simply understated cars lately
I think this was on Jalopnik a month or 2 ago
No parking, anytime.
Truth

Off to Easter dinner.

Site Updates

The Facebook fan page has over 3000 likes now which is pretty damn cool to me.

This week I’m checking out my auto teachers Diablo kit car build in person and I will be bringing my camera and so will my girlfriend so we should have an in depth look at that coming up shortly. Additionally I should have some photos and maybe a feature on a fairly unique slammed ride up on Monday.

Quick car update on my end, my car is going back to the body shop in the next two weeks to address some warranty work that wasn’t done correctly last year (side skirt misalignment, peeling clear) and I am going to follow up with curbed.ca on Monday and check up on the status of my wheels.

I’m still aiming for the first Stretch And Poke meet to have everything dialed, but there is a decent chance it will be done a couple weeks before then.

Flashback Friday

I’ve totally been dropping the ball on Random Dopeness and Sunday Swagger posts so with this weekend being a long one I might try and get one up this Sunday.

Here is a look back at the first Random Dopeness I did.

I still think this is cool as hell

Happy Easter.

A bunch of hard working Canadians: Part 1

1

Springs in the air here in Canada, sort of. Actually the amount of spring in the air actually really depends on your definition of spring, the given day, and your current location. Also yesterday there was a lot of stuff in the air but it wasn’t really spring… but for the most part (unless its snowing) its spring that’s in the air.

With spring comes spinning wrenches, cutting metal, sprayed paint, and stretched rubber. I’ve been following a bunch of great looking builds based right here in the land of red and white and here are a few of them, all drift builds coincidentally.

Dorimoto

The Dorimoto blog has been getting a lot of love recently as they (Liam, Jesse, Martino) all get ready for the 2011 drift season. Most of their cars have gone under the knife for some under hood work along side foot ware changes.

Jesse is aiming to make more power this year so he plucked his motor out and got to work. A few numbers have been tossed around but I think someone said he will be around the 250-300 at the wheels when all is said and done.

Project car in and amongst all those parts
Bay emptied out for work to be done
Look at those frame rails, then back at yours, then back at his again...

Liam’s also been busy, Dorimoto partnered with GB tires for this season and as such they have got a hook up with Varrstoen wheels which he has already mounted.

Mad props to fellow single car garage workers
18×10.5 +15 Varrstoen TE reps
Down.
His original motor was not playing nice so he ripped it out
Oh this is in the shop as well

Drift Union

Logan and Shawn from Drift Union took apart there cars once again in anticipation for the 2011 season. They had a killer season last year and judging from the work they have been doing recently this year should be more of the same.

If you like their videos be sure to give them a like on facebook they are on video strike until they hit 2000 fans.

Check out what they have been up to with their race cars they take out on the street…

Now this is full lock.
Still lovin' the purple color they went with
Logan up to something
Logan wanted to run the same width but no camber this year, so things had to get cut
Looks like he got it all figured out

Pat Cyr

Pat’s year so far is looking great, if you have picked up a copy of Performance Auto and Sound lately you have probably seen his car sideways in HSD suspension ads and that is because they are sponsoring him for the 2011 season.

In addition to that sponsorship PatCyrRacing.com just launched and his F20 powered Ae86 just had a promising dyno day (video below).

If you follow him on twitter you may have seen this status where he said ‘Goin crazy with fiberglass today, I pretty sure I’m gonna have the lightest car in FD‘.

Damn.

Pat's new HSD suspension
Every year this AE gets meaner and meaner...

Cool kids where you at?
