Last week my friend Chris, from Toronto Mazda 3 gave me a shout asking if I wanted to take part in a little photo shoot/meet on the May 24 holiday Monday.
Having nothing better to do I cleaned my car, grabbed my girlfriend and headed out, here are some of the resulting photos my girlfriend took of the day.
TM3 guys if you want high res versions of this shoot just send me an email.
Last Saturday I felt the need for a little bit of change from the super slammed, stretch tire, flush type of stance and decided to head out to the weekly Street Classics Show and Shine at Canadian Tire Etobicoke and take in some real American Metal.
Since it was a long weekend the turnout was smaller than usual but 20 cars or 200 I still enjoy these shows, it’s something about the atmosphere.
Quick little post today. I have redesigned the basic url stickers a little thicker so that they stand out a bit more as the original ones were a little thin and just need to ask you guys what colors you want to see them in.
Go wild and the most popular colors here and on facebook will be produced.
I plan on ordering the new batch Wednesday and will keep updating the color suggestions on this page until then.
I have nothing against compact cars, if you need something to drive with the misses and are not really concerned about performance or hauling miscellaneous crap around with you then they are perfect..
However when modifying them it’s best to not use a heavy handed approach but rather with a certain grace & finesse. Most certainly not with a full size body kit and a large quantity of body filler. These talented, but misguided body men decided to throw caution to the wind and go all in, here are the results.
GT:50% – Gone in 60 Minutes
This one is based on a smart car, and um… looks like so:
Funny Porsche
Guess what this kit bash was based on and win a set of the standard URL stickers!
Site Updates
I am going to be work on some new sticker designs this weekend, no excuses. I am making one new url sticker and going to put the designs up on facebook and let the winner be decided there.
When I order the stickers I am going to get more ‘I Like Em Dropped’ stickers in different colors. I am also looking into getting 2 color one’s made so you guys don’t have to color in the panties yourself. I know the store image is a bit of a tease since I don’t actually sell that but I am going to work on it.
Patience my friends 🙂
As for a bit of a personal thing with my car, my spacers and camber arms finally arrived and I am just waiting on my coil overs now and then I will be able to debute my new stance shortly after that.
I felt I had to rep a bit harder this year after looking at all of the cars you guys send in and the ones at the events.
My ultimate goal is no fender gap, no tucking, and no poking. I want the perfect balance of everything as this is what I have always wanted in my own vehicles and it’s about time I got it. Can’t wait.
Flashback Friday
Dan recently commented on this post so lets throw some light on the Star Status Feature.
To date this is my longest, and most extensive feature, and I learned a lot while doing it and would love the chance to do one again.
Probably hit up an event or two on the weekend so see you guys on Monday.
Got another quick message board find today, this shortened week combined with running around getting parts for my car means that a lot of the drafts I have written for such occasions are finally seeing the light of day.
I spotted this e30 awhile back and I am still not 100% sure how I feel about it. The black helps the ‘Testarossa’ sides for sure, and the wheels have gobs of dish, but the small brakes behind them kind of throw me for a loop. At any rate all of the work is well done and it’s nice and low.
Came across this e46 a few days ago on Max and even though the owner thinks his track wheels look tiny I’m a fan of how this e46 looks set up for the track on Apex Arc-8 17×9 (et) 42 wheels with 255s all around.
At 17lbs a piece these wheels won’t slow the owner down on the track either.
My friend Keith has been working on his Model T coupe for the past four or so years and last Friday the angry bastard fired up and screamed at the world.
To say that the Olds 303 in this car sounds mean as hell would be an understatement, and I can’t wait until this thing is road worth because I know how hard he has worked on it. Once it’s on the road I plan to pay him a visit and get some more pictures, info, and a ride!
Here’s a pic from when he had it trailer-ed to a local show last year:
BBS LM’s are an amazing looking wheel with a design that never goes out of style. Some might say the LM is played out but I would rather go with timeless, BBS is one of the few wheel manufacturers with a near flawless record of putting out designs that are versatile, unique, sought after, and often imitated but never duplicated.
Nextmod is a great tuning shop here in the GTA, and it’s one of those places that whenever you go not only are you likely to run into someone you know, but there is also a good chance you will have leave with less in your wallet than when you arrived.
The owner, Peter, is an active member of the local tuning community and often holds meets and free barbecues at the shop. When he emailed me a few days ago with pictures of his 2010 team I realized that Next Mod’s really got quite the trio going: dope shop, awesome meet spot, and an excellent line up of cars.
Nextmod: Honda Civic
This Next Mod/Level One Civic is quickly becoming a Stance Is Everything veteran with it’s clean exterior and performance oriented mods (Endless 6 piston BBK, Skunk2 Pro-C coilovers, t1r catless header /toda catback just to name a few), and with a Type-R front end swap in the works there is no telling how many more times it will be posted here as it continues to evolve.
Nextmod: Subaru STI
This Subaru owner is a regular poster on Toronto Mazda 3 and I’ve been following this build since stock, and Eeen though he has not had the car long he’s already put in lots of work.
So far an HKS Turboback (titanium Kevlar wrapped), HKS Hipermaxx sport III coilivers, and Takata Green CE28n wheels are just a few of the things that have made their way onto this car.
As a big Subaru fan I can’t wait to see where this car goes in the next few months.
Nextmod: IS350
I couldn’t imagine being the owner of a performance shop and being a car enthusiast, I would probably sink more money into my car than I made. Peter (thankfully) has more sense than myself and seems to have been been able to strike the perfect owner/enthusiast balance as both Next Mod and his IS350 are running strong.
Nextmod: Voltex 350
This is the only Voltex kitted 350 I have seen in the GTA and the only time I saw it was out front of the NextMod shop at the NextMod/TM3 season opener. With the staggering amount of work done to this 350 I am glad to not be the one footing the bill.
I would gladly take it for a boot though.
Nextmod: Amuse GT1 S2000
Looking like no other s2000 in the GTA The Next Mod Amuse GT1 is not for the faint of heart. With it’s love-it or hate-it kit this s2k turns heads and starts conversations wherever it goes.
I’m going to be heading out to Nextmod within the next week or so to lighten my wallet so don’t be surprised if I have more photos from the Nextmod HQ soon.
Mike Burroughs, over at Stance Works, isn’t a person afraid of breaking new ground, as I am sure you guys already know based on what he has done with rusty, this is also very much apparent done with his freshly finished one of a kind s54 powered e36 which has already been posted on both HellaFlush and Speed Hunters.
However with all of the coverage his e36 getting I think a lot of people are over looking the fact that with this build he has spurred the development of small number, high performance, AST coil over setups designed for handing well, while being low.
The potential of a suspension system that can hit both form and function means that the game has reached a new, safer, low.
I’m a function AND form person and most of the cars that truly win my heart have a fairly even split of these two aspects (60/40ish).
However I also believe that a cars 2nd function (first being point a to point b) is to please the driver, which is how I justify my love for cars that are obviously low to the point where performance has been greatly sacrificed.
But what if a car can please (and move) the driver, look amazing, get low, and handle as good or better than stock?
This would be the best of all worlds, and create a vehicle that essentially pleases every ‘party’ of the automotive hobby.
Well thanks to Mike and AST suspension a perfect balance such as this has been achieved, and will soon be achieavable by others.
With AST’s system on the market there is no telling how many other suspension manufacturers will follow suit and no telling where the innovation will stop.
Here is whatt Mike had to say about this system:
What might be as equally noteworthy to the motor is the suspension. When the car went under the knife, it went under with Bilstein PSS9 Coilovers.
The car now sits on something far more specialized. Last year, we approached AST suspension, known for building some phenomenal race suspensions, and said we want a coilover engineered for “low”.
What we got was was greater than imagined. AST took their track proven suspension and shortened it substantially. The shortened housings combined with unique struts valved for stiffer springs, we’ve got what is essentially built a coilover for “stance”.
Words can’t describe the quality, the ride, the handling. Go on and suggest I’ve ruined the car with imperfect suspension geometry and stretched tires. For those of who you do care- there’s no better E36 suspension out there as far as I am concerned. I’m merely halfway down, with gobs of travel and a car that rides like a sports car is supposed to. No jarring, no banging, no roughness.
We’re calling the suspension StanceWorks: Zero Clearance by AST.
