Ass So Fat You Can See It From The Front: Ms. Fat Booty

1

Mini Moto Lab‘s latest build, Ms. Fat Booty, started out as a small side project for co-owner Anthony’s girlfriend to cruise around on and was nearly completed four years ago before life got in the way and the build was torn apart and shoved in a box.

Brought back out years later as a much needed distraction from the now ex-girlfriend this once shelved build is now one of the most unique looking ‘Rucks’ on the streets of Toronto.

The focal point of this build, and how it earned its moniker, is of course the Douglas 10×10 rear wheel wrapped in a Duro Top Fighter rear tire.

This combo gives the bike a unique look only possible with a wheel that is as wide as it is tall.

mini-moto-lab-ms-fat-booty-4-chris-johnston-photo

Housing that massive roller is a custom one-off Rucksters rear mount and behind the steam roller is a custom foot actuated rear drum brake.

Up front is a Kitaco 10×3 solid disc wheel wrapped in Pirelli rubber.

The GY6 motor has been given a little help thanks to a OKO 30mm slide cab, NCY Intake manifold and custom WirusWin exhaust.

The Ruscksters GY6 harness cleans everything up essentially giving the bike a Ruckus version of a wire tuck.

A custom seat, deep blue paint, and a laundry list of black and polished accessories outlined below round out the rest of the build and Anthony says she rides like a tank and is a whole lot of fun.

If you have a Ruck of your own join their cruse to the show, starting at 9am August 15th at Honda Canada 180 Honda Blvd.

Event Coverage: Tuner Dynasty 2015

0

This summer has been a busy one in Ontario with events happening so frequently it’s often hard to get to all of them never mind getting coverage up in a timely manner! I once again have to thank the guys at StillSteezy.com for helping out with event coverage this year.

While the Importfest Vossen owners meet was taking place at Lexus Downtown, on the other end of the City The Tuner Dynasty was hosting their first show in Kitchener.

Proceeds for this event went towards the Pledge To End Bullying along with the United Way Kitchener and the momentum generated from their monthly meets translated to great support for this show.

Today’s coverage focuses on the stand outs and personal favourites of Gray and Kurt.

First up a factory Fresh Datsun 280z. Looking like it rolled right off the factory floor this car demand the respect elders often do.

Next up is a fairly regular sighting around here, Gary’s Ranger.

As connoisseurs of fine details a truck like Gary’s is the perfect subject for the likes of Gray and Kurt.

tuner-dynasty-2014-gray-schilling-gary-donkers-ranger-3 tuner-dynasty-2014-gray-schilling-gary-donkers-ranger-4

I’m not sure if Gary still has the truck up for sale, but if he does here’s hoping once it’s sold it doesn’t vanish for good.

People go on and on about how BBS wheels on Volkswagens are ‘played out’ but honestly they look so damn right that I find that whole argument silly.

Some people like to go against the grain others like to keep it timeless.

The coverage today will end out with Gray’s Mazdaspeed Protege and Beau’s GS400.

Gray’s car is easily one of the cleanest MSP’s in the city (no easy task thanks dodgy Mazda Metal) and a bit of a unicorn as it doesn’t appear much, and when it does it’s usually discreetly parked outside of the spotlight.

Beau’s GS400 has been getting a lot of attention lately due to its impressive static fitment, but really big body sedan on wheels with tons of dish? Who doesn’t like that.

Theme Tuesdays: Jaguars

2

My mother, who is not a car person by any means, has always had a thing for Jaguars. My father, who is what we can say now a dormant car guy, always swore them off is unreliable and expensive to operate.

I, (outside of the e type which everyone loves) have never really had much of an opinion about them one way or another. Visually I like some, and I get a kick out of seeing them race, but I don’t think I’ve ever been in one nor am I inclined to ever want to own one.

However I’ve dedicated many a Theme Tuesday to cars I’ve never been in, and probably won’t ever own, so what’s one more?

I have unfortunately never seen this car and its eccentric pilots on the road course again, shame as it was cool to see out there

Event Coverage: Classics On The Square 2015

0

July 5th was a busy weekend here in Toronto, Car’s and Coffee, CSCS, and Mississauga’s own Classics On the Square. In its second year Classics On The Square is a free to spectators event aimed at enthusiasts and non in the Mississauga area.

Hosted by Ron Starr and the Mississauga Classic Car club this event, as the name suggests, is heavily focused towards classics vehicles but everyone is welcome and they don’t discriminate.

Having been east of the city earlier in the day I missed a few cars that rolled out early (most notably a large crew of air-cooled vehicles) but when I did arrive there were still a lot of spectators and a full square full of cars.

Naturally I spotted the low riders from a mile away and made my way towards them.

classics-on-the-square-lowriders

Representing Affiliated these cars were all flawless and had crowds around them at all times. My personal favourite was the teal Impala, the copious use of chrome worked extremely well with the shade of teal the car wore.

classics-on-the-square-lowrider-motor classics-on-the-square-lowrider-trunk

A few rows down from the low riders was a Thunderbird that had all of the paint tricks thrown at it, windows, lace, shading, pinstriping, flake stripes, shadows…

classics-on-the-square-thunderbird

Whoever put the no doubt staggering number of hours into this paint job is truly an artist.

Moving through the rest of the show all of your typical notable classics were well represented.

The Riviera and Camaro below stood out to me in particular. They could have been modified yesterday or ten years ago, either way the style was timeless.

Bullitt fans were treated to a screen accurate ’68 Ford Mustang GT.

Beside the Mustang was a real deal GNX, which considering how much these cars are worth, was nice to see out.

One of my favourite shops, A&D Performance, brought out a few of their cars.

Builds from A&D never cease to amaze me, they look like show cars, run like race cars, and are capable of driving the streets.

If I had to pick one favourite of the entire event though it would be the Ford ‘Rat Rod’ below.

Built right this car was a great example that time and car can be applied to a rat rod and not disturb the over all aesthetic.

I was a fan of the interior in particular that had a very evident aviation look about it.

Hats off to the owner and hopefully I get to see this car again one day.

At this point there was nothing left to do but pack up and roll out, so I took a cue from the couple below and made tracks.

See you at the event next year!

Mothers Worry

0

After reading yesterday’s update on Project ‘Why Wait?’ I’m sure a few of you wanted to see a bit more of the 1930 Ford taking up residence in at the 87 Advance Road Performance Improvements store.

‘Mother’s Worry’ is a drag sedan done to the nines previously owned and built by Neil Candy (of Candy’s Hot Rod Supply), and now owned by Cliff Waller.

sie-gmc-performance-improvments-15 sie-gmc-performance-improvments-2

Currently the car is being stored at Performance Improvements but should roll out in a blaze of Hemi induced tire smoke this Wednesday.

sie-gmc-performance-improvments-14 sie-gmc-performance-improvments-16

It’s destination after PI is the Jalopy Jam Up of course, taking place at the Frontier Ghost town August 15th.

sie-gmc-performance-improvments-18

Be there or be square as the saying goes.

Project Why Wait: Friend Of PI

1

In Project Why Wait?‘s introductory post I talked about the somewhat lengthy period of time it took to acquire a solid starting point. While that process had its periods of frustration, and why the heck can’t I just find something moments, one positive is that along the way I met a number of people willing to help with the build once the time was right.

Blair Taylor/Taylor’d Customs is an obvious key contributor to this project, providing a place to work on and store the truck as well as advice throughout the build, and another valuable relationship is the one I have with the McJannett family and Performance Improvements.

sie-gmc-performance-improvments-1
If Stance Is Everything were your standard auto blog here is where I would insert a canned marketing blurb detailing how Performance Improvements has been a vital part of the Canadian Hot Rod Community for over 50 years.

That is of course true, and PI is an important local business that provides a valuable service to gear heads all over Canada, but just flying through a bullet point list about Performance Improvements would be doing the partnership a disservice because the relationship I have with PI is about much more than numbers and returns.

sie-gmc-performance-improvments-2

My first introduction to what could be considered one of the most ‘hot rod’ of families in Canada came in 2012 through Rob McJannett who like everyone else in the family is a bit of a jack of all trades.

His primary focus in the family run business is creative direction and he first approached me via email about contributing to their Performance In Motion print magazine.

pi-covers

Having purchased the suspension for my Blazer from their Brampton location I was familiar with the Performance Improvements name but not the magazine. However I liked the idea of my work in print so I agreed and I’ve been a regular contributor to the magazine ever since.

With a reach of 35,000 people per issue the magazine is a pretty big deal and something I’m really happy that Rob brought me into.

Every time a new issue drops I get a handful of text messages and emails from people who are excited to see their vehicles in print.

sie-gmc-performance-improvments-12

Shortly after I met Rob was introduced to his brother Andy (another Jack of all trades with his focus being more numbers based), and he and I have spent more than a few nights on Facebook trading links of outlandish projects, odd motor swaps, and half-baked ideas.

In fact he’s the one who first put me wise to Rick Dobbertin’s Pontiac J-2000 which to this day is one of the most popular WTF Friday posts ever.

sie-gmc-performance-improvments-10re
sie-gmc-performance-improvments-11

After that I was introduced to father Bob, and mother Susan –the roots of Performance Improvements whose story is touched on here— who along with Rob and Andy took Lyndsey and I out for a celebratory dinner in Vegas after we got married.

More events, more food, more cars, more drinks, more laughs and I’ve become a pretty familiar face around the PI booth at events and the main store at 87 Advance Road in Etobicoke.

So to reiterate this isn’t some baseless marketing partnership made by people in suits with cash lined hand shakes, we are all genuinely friends and like myself they are all excited to see what I do with this truck.

sie-gmc-performance-improvments-4 sie-gmc-performance-improvments-5 sie-gmc-performance-improvments-6 sie-gmc-performance-improvments-13 sie-gmc-performance-improvments-8

As you can see by the photos throughout this post Performance Improvements stores have literally everything I could need to build a truck (save for body panels) and through the course of the build you better believe I am going to need a lot of it!

As I ransack their shelves, and empty my piggy bank into their tills, I will be documenting the build progress in the pages of Performance in Motion, following in the foot steps of more than a few outstanding builds including Mark Bovey’s awesome Targa truck.

sie-gmc-performance-improvments-9

While I can safely say that this truck won’t be straightening corners in Newfoundland, I hope that it will see a whole of Canadian road once it’s moving about under its own power much lower to the ground.

As the build progresses I expect my visits to the Advance Road location to triple, but I also imagine I’ll also do a few grease covered impromptu stops at their Oshawa location when I inevitably forget I needed one extra fitting or connector.

sie-gmc-performance-improvments-19

In the meantime I’m sure some of you are dying to know what ideas I have so far regarding the truck. Chris Piscitelli (of Design 165) has been working on a few official renders and here’s a first preliminary sketch.

design-165-project-why-wait-line-drawing

We’ve been going back and forth on a few details and final projected visions of the final project should be coming along very shortly and I’ll share more direction then.

Quick house keeping note this project now has a sub domain for those of you just following along with the build. It can be accessed directly at stanceiseverything.com/whywait as soon as the dns clears.

Through The Visor

0

My friend and BMX rider Darcy Peters –mentioned in the last Rider Owned Theme Tuesday— was just featured in a video by Red Van Studio for Bell Helmets Through The Visor Contest.

In a nutshell the contest is set up to give races to share their love for driving with enthusiasts around the world. A grand prize of $10,000 is up for grabs, so if you like the video below head over to bellracing.com and give him a vote.

If he wins I will twist his arm for some exclusive video for the site.

Theme Tuesdays: Acura Legends

1

My first introduction to the Acura Legend came through music, not sure who I saw in one first but Ludacris is definitely the one person who really reps the Legend hard.

Being a fairly successful Japanese Luxury car back when Japanese Luxury was just emerging in North America, these were a big deal ‘back in the day’.

Today however they seem to have all but disappeared, it’s not like the RL was made of old Legends so where’d they all suddenly get off to? The same place as all the K cars perhaps?

Anyway I digress, here is some Legend love.

The Purple Pontiac Redux

1

In 2011 I spotted an outstanding ’62 Pontiac Laurentian at Performance World, then later that year the Fleetwood Country Cruise In. The owner contacted me later on and I actually re-edited the photos and posted them up in 2013.

Since Rob and I been like ships passing in the night and just managed to miss each other at a variety of events.

At this year’s Cruise For The Cure hosted at Tim and Brenda’s Place, we finally managed to meet after all these years and I got to take a few more photos of his beautiful car.

tim-brendas-2015-tomahawk-pontiac-4

Currently up for sale Rob’s Pontiac is a work of art that he built entirely himself.

tim-brendas-2015-tomahawk-pontiac

tim-brendas-2015-tomahawk-pontiac-3

With over 3000 man hours of work into it this car will be an absolute steal for whoever picks it up. Literally everything you could want has been done to it, chopped, channeled, bagged, and a 454 Big Block Under the hood.

tim-brendas-2015-tomahawk-pontiac-2

tim-brendas-2015-tomahawk-pontiac-5

If you’re wondering why someone would sell such a car it’s because he’s got a Cadillac sitting in the garage waiting to get similar treatment. Can’t wait to see that one when it’s finished.

WTF Friday: Another Single Shot Kill

6

I know, I know, one photo WTF Friday, again. Sorry. But I spent a fair chunk of time trying to find more on this C4/Countach creation and came up with nothing.

One can only assume it was never finished and is sitting behind a shop somewhere becoming one with the earth.

nevertobeseenagain

Of all the things the wing placement really perplexes me. Why so far forward?

I guess that’s a rhetorical at this point but if anyone has any more info on this car I’d love to see it.

Update: CDSETXO manged to dig up some photos of the final product, which all things considered looks not bad.
