From Russia With Low

It's been a great week for videos, first the Level One video popped up, then Aidan's IS300 video was dropped, and now I've got this great video of a low MKV GTI to share all the way from Russia. Both the car and the video are simple and to the point, and while dimaekimov didn't attach much info about the car he did include a few static shots of it from the video. Take a look.

Theme Tuesdays: Women And Cars Part 2

Time again to do a pretty straight forward Theme Tuesday post, the kind you could find on any other blog. Sorry this is not as creative as some of the previous ones. I'm not even sure you guys will like it.... /sarcasm Warning: Potentially NSFW unless maybe you work at the Brass Rail or just DGAF.

Sweden Stays Down

Since posting Richard's ride Monday my mailbox has been buzzing more fine cars from Sweden, but before I get to those I have to spin it back a bit to a car that I actually saw for the first time in August. Somehow the car ended up getting lost in the shuffle of event coverage until I was reminded of it yesterday.

Sweden gets down

It's still a little shocking how popular this Canadian based blog with predominately North American content is on a global scale. I'm not complaining of course because this global appeal is how awesome cars like this dub which belongs to Richard "Mingan" HÃ¥veland of Sweden show up in my inbox.

Sterling

Calgary correspondent (aka nice guy with beard and camera) Mike McConnell of MDM Visuals got in touch with me recently about a new set of photos he had taken of an exceptionally clean air cooled bug. His message was pretty simple 'pick your favorites and go nuts'. Choosing my favorites ended up being a little harder than I thought as this simple shoot yielded excellent results.

WTF Friday: Pacemaker

What could be more embarrassing than getting blow away by a Pacer? Probably getting blown away by a Pacer that still has its original wood paneling in tact. You've got to give it to the builder Steve Bashford for keeping this Pacer as factory looking as possible while turning it into a balls to the wall drag car that runs down the quarter mile in 10 seconds.

Guest Coverage: Drift Ops Oct 30 2011

Drift Ops along with Cool Kids and sponsor Sailun Tires just wrapped up a successful season of drift events at local track Shannoville. In some cruel twist of fate I was busy every Sunday that they had an event this year, but for the season-ender Charles Spivak was able to make it out and he kindly offered up his coverage for the site.

Featured Ride: Mike’s 3.3T GTI

I've never met Mike but based on the picture he paints of himself on twitter he is one hard working SOB. When these pictures of his car arrived in my inbox it was easy to see where all those late nights nights and early mornings have gone over the past several years. His GTI is the perfect balance of function and form and there simply won’t be anything like it again for long time.

Event Coverage: Squeaky Clean 2011

After successfully running Tuners Against Street Racing for a few years Matthew M (previous feature s2k owner) decided to switch gears a bit and start a new show series called 'Squeaky Clean' aimed towards those with more subtle modifications done to their cars. The first Squeeky Clean show took place two weeks ago at JRP and even though mother nature didn't seem to fond about the idea of Matt having a show that day about 35 or so cars ended up coming out to participate in the event.

Theme Tuesdays: Air cooled Beetles

The 'blame' for this weeks Theme Tuesday can squarely be placed on the shoulders of previously featured photographer and current BC(?) resident Mike McConnell. After spotting the Beetle that used to be his at Oktoberfest I read through the entire build thread which left me wanting more. Since it's been a long time since I have dedicated a Theme Tuesday to this iconic car I spent some time last night pulling a quick list together.

Event Coverage: Oktoberfest 2011

With winter just around the corner Chop Shop decided to send the 2011 season off properly with a charity BBQ (proceeds to the Canadian Cancer Society and the Food bank) called Oktoberfest. The somewhat unseasonably nice weather lead to a great turn out and because this wasn't a show the atmosphere was super laid back which made it a great way to kill a couple of hours on a fall day.

WTF Friday: T-Tops

Last week I tried something a little different for WTF Friday but this week I am going back to a tried and true formula: A wild car with a crazy power plant. Or in this case a wild car with TWO crazy power plants between the frame rails. UK based Fast Car Magazine recently did a feature on this car and since I follow them on twitter it popped up in my feed and immediately blew me away.
