This’ll wake you up

3

On a typical workday, the alarm on my phone tortures me to wake up at 7:30am, 8:00am, 8:15am, 8:30am, 8:45am, and 9:00am. That’s right. I’m so terrible at waking up I need six separate alarms.

Then, one day last week I woke up naturally before my alarms. Barely awake, and struggling to see anything, I roll over to check the time on my phone and notice I have e-mail from Hoda, our favourite reader from Japan. I didn’t care too much until I realized each e-mail had an attachment. So I opened the first e-mail to find he had sent photos of his Honda Odyssey–with a fresh set of wheels.

And just like that, I’m wide awake on the edge of my bed before my first alarm. Hoda told me about getting new rims a while ago and I kind of forgot about it.

JDM Odyssey. New SSR Professor M1 rims. Beautiful photography. Great way to start the morning, right?

Now if only my morning drive to work looked a little something like this. For now I’ll just have to repeatedly daydream about the cruise he took me on in Kyoto last year.

Hoda’s Odyssey sets a great example on how to make a bold statement without going over the top. No fender rolling, no crazy-wide rims, no aggressive tire stretching—just well-executed mods that truly compliment the vehicle.

I never get tired of staring at this thing. In fact, I’d bet my obsession bride-to-be, Emma Stone, could walk right past and block my view without me noticing her. And how could anybody blame me with a rear end like this?

Would you change anything? The only real problem that I see needs fixing is my name isn’t on this Odyssey’s ownership slip.

Hoda’s going to be turning a lot of heads in 2012 with this red-silver-gold combo.

If I were Dave, I’m feeling that right about now is when I’m supposed to say, “Hoda’s stance is dialed in.”

I think we can all agree this Odyssey’s gotten a healthy dose of class with the new Professor M1s.

If you aren’t familiar with the previous setup, head on over to my guest post from last year where I wrote about meeting up with Hoda in Kyoto, Japan. You’ll appreciate his Odyssey’s new shoes so much more.

Huge thanks to Hoda for sending these photos in AND helping me getting my lazy ass to work early for once.

Theme Tuesdays: Four On The Floor?

7

Today’s Theme Tuesday originally started off as a follow up to the Tripoding Theme Tuesday from September of 2010 but then progressed into one that had cars with varying amounts of wheels on the ground.

Most of these are caused by a stiff suspension, steep angles, speed, or a combination of all three but a couple juice induced.

Static Induced

Accord gettin' tipsy
Loading docks are a standard way to get a low car on 3
These wheels are very similar to my own... I think this car was parted
Quebec 3, three
Apparently the suspension on this car is stiff enough to let it 3 on nearly flat ground
Different angle
I've actually been meaning to post up this car on it's own for awhile now...
This is just kind of messed up

Speed Induced

Stock suspension and sticky tires
Gettin' it
Being a rally driver you know he was poker face
Jaggerbombs
Can't say I have seen this happen at CSCS
I have seen this at CSCS though
More CSCS action
Anthony Chasing Martino. Pretty sure Martino will be back at it again this year
Angry looking Merkur... errr... Ford Sierra
Another pic I grabbed from God's Chariot
Sentra!

Juice Induced

You know I couldn’t leave out low lows, but I made sure to grab a few different ones in addition to a 64.

Just in for an oil change
Don't see too many Caprice Classics out and around anymore let alone any doing a reverse 3
Nissan 300C.
Datsun!?
Ya... this is happening
Insane.

This.

Following up a post like the one I made on Friday with a car that wasn’t straight to the point, and uber clean just wouldn’t be right so here are some new(er) photos of an e30 I first posted April of 2011.

Not much has changed since then but honestly nothing really needed too.

On the way to Eurokracy
Initally I thought this car was on coils but it's actually on H&R Race springs with E90 hats and a coil loped off up front
15x8/9 BBS RS 195/50 all around
My opinion of this car is still the same as when I first saw it, perfect.

These photos were taken on the way to Eurokracy 2011. Eurokracy 2012 was just announced for June 23rd of this year for those who may have missed it.

The first car show of 2012 starts this Friday and thanks again to SIC RYDE I have two free VIP day passes to give away to one lucky Stance Is Everything reader.

Mega Speed is Toronto’s newest show and if the show it is replacing (Performance World) is any indication it will have something for everyone.

The person who correctly identifies the most plates will be the winner.

In the event that multiple people correctly identify all (or the same number) of SIC RYDE vanity license plates a winner will be chosen by mathematical random of those who answered correctly.

Here’s one to get you started…

Further help can be found on the SIC RYDE Facebook fanpage, SICRYDE.CA, and Stance Is Everything event coverage.

The contest closes Wednesday March 7th 2012 at 11:59PM with the winner being announced bright and early Thursday March 8th 2012.

WTF Friday: Fitment By The Numbers

25

I’ve been trying to avoid posting about the topic of wheel fitment as strictly a numbers game for some time now as it is a discussion that may touch on a few nerves and one that could leave be sounding a tad hypocritical.

However it is an issue I feel needs addressing now more than ever before things degrade into a pissing contest of epic proportions.

My first brush with the ‘Fitment By The Numbers’ mentality came a few months ago when I noticed people responding to members rides threads by asking wheel and tire fitment questions first, and offering compliments or criticisms second.

"THE BARRELS HAVE SPOKEN" - STREETSWEEPER.NORTHWEST

A little investigation revealed that, more often than not, these were the same people who seemed adamant that to have a ‘stanced’ vehicle you needed wheels of a certain width, stretch of a certain amount, and camber to a certain degree.

Which is wrong.

If that were true then how would traditional hot rods, mini trucks, imports, euros, classics, and low riders lacking one, if not all, of those ‘prerequisites’ earn features on some of the most popular and respected stance oriented websites today?

"He Did That?" - STREETSWEEPER.NORTHWEST

There is no book of stance, no guidelines that must be followed to be deemed worthy, the only common thread amongst cars with great stance is a ride height significantly different than factory.

Aggressive fitment just happens to be something works better the lower you are so the two are often linked and, as you I’m sure you are all well aware, aggressive fitment has become quite popular over the last several years.

With this popularity came a larger following and more people looking to push the boundaries, and as that happened the question of how much is too much began to come into play.

18x11.5

Aesthetically flow is perhaps the most important part of a car and the reason that so many people dislike body kits, roof racks, loud graphics/paint, and spoilers. Depending on execution those items can often disrupt the entire flow of an otherwise great looking car.

The same rule applies with fitment, execution is paramount.

When you run a wheel so wide that it takes away from your other modifications then does it really matter that you can claim the widest and lowest for your platform or that you can play a game of Jenga on your exposed barrel?

"GOT BARREL?" - STREETSWEEPER.NORTHWEST

If aesthetics and function start to leap frog each other out the door then what are we modifying our cars for, shock value? Notoriety?

Food for thought.

Modify your car as you see fit because aesthetics are a subjective thing with opinions differing from person to person, but if your end goal is only your end goal to outdo the person before you remember that there is always someone behind you who is ready to do the exact same thing.

Flashback Friday

For this weeks WTF Friday I will forgo the usual site updates and end with a photo one of my all time favorite Subarus.

Julian in my opinion always knew when enough was enough.

Good Ol’ Boy

3

This ’47 Ford Coupe has been kickin’ around my hard drive for awhile now because I wasn’t sure if I wanted to include it in another post or throw it up solo but I recently found a few more pictures of it so solo it is.

Wearing what I can only assume to be natural patina and appropriate sign art on the side this Ford looks right at home in the weeds.

I would really love some more info on the truck if anyone’s got it. So far the only other place I can find these photos is over on JJizzle’s blog.

Fat and Flush: Silver Sleigh

6

Enkei should just sponsor the Fat And Flush section of this blog because their RPF-1 wheel is now making it’s fourth appearance in this now nine post category.

Yes nearly 50% of this entire category is made up of cars on RPF-1 wheels, crazy.

I guess it goes to show that function oriented minds think alike.

Specs are: 17×9 +45 255/45 in the front and 17×9.5 +38 245/40 rear.

S2000s and Subarus are most of the Fat and Flush category now that I think about it….

Winter Wednesdays: The Wanderer

5

Last week I said I would try and dig up something a little ‘extra’ for this weeks Winter Wednesday so today I make good on that promise.

The story of how this four door R32 Skyline ended up in the snow begins in Vancouver.

The owner purchased the car (for $600!?) to replace his previous missile (240) and right after acquiring it he packed up to move from Lethbridge Alberta to Nanaimo BC which is about an 18 hour drive.

Nothing too crazy right?

Well… the weather in that part of Canada isn’t all that predictable after September and snow ended up following him from front door to front door.

Of course the car was fitted with summer wheels and tires which made the trip even more exciting.

Midway through he picked up some winter wheels and continued on joined by his friend with the Subaru in the photos.

All’s well that ends well as the owner made it to his new home and the car is now being put to good use as seen below.

A little bit more on the car and the story can be found on the Violent Running Tribe message board.

Theme Tuesdays: Pictures With Attitude: 7

3

Not restricting this weeks post to one brand or model like the recent few instead just continuing the ‘Pictures with attitude’ (should just change it to awesome pictures) theme for another Tuesday.

It is almost hard to believe that I have done six of these so far… eventually I am going to have to think of something different to do for the tenth.

Kick this off with two rollers
Amazing looking car
Uh... lower it?
Have to figure out when I can see a wheel stander in person
Minitruck dudes always up to something...
Like a person in a position to tell other people what to do in a professional capacity
Such a wild photo
Simply G'
Why wasn't this made into a poster? Much better than it sitting on checkered tiles
Everyone one of these posts has a car lost in the smoke
Doin it right.
A little grounds keeping
The flame of the past lights the torch of the future
Incredible capture

Girls Can Two

3

The second of today’s female rides belongs to Heather and was shot by previous featured photographer Nathan Powers.

Like Bri’s Jetta Heather’s Civic is free of all the typical female modification cliches so it stands out without screaming ‘I’m a girl’.

Under the hood of Heather’s civic is a B18B1 with an AEM fuel rail and 4-1 header, outside Type R front and rear lips have been added to the exterior along with EK side skirts and spoon mirrors.

Inside S2000 front seats have been installed along with Integra GSR leather rear seats.

Finally The car sits on coils and Sportmaxx 501 wheels.

Ladies I am looking to do another Girls With Hot Rides Theme Tuesday so send in some photos of your rides!
