Girls Can

0

It’s been awhile since I have (knowingly) posted up a female owned ride so today I plan to post two.

The first of which belongs to the better half of a third of everyone’s favourite grass roots BC drift team, Drift Union.

Photos of Brieanna’s car have popped up in my timeline now and again, each time looking better and better, so posting it was long overdue.

The setup her ride consists of Raceland coils and 16×9.5 +13 Riken mesh wheels (mounted with adapters) and 205/50 tires, the frame has also been notched so ride quality doesn’t completely go out the window.

Gaelen Norman (@GaelenN) of BigBoyMedia.net worked the soul stealer on these shots and the full set of photos can be found here on flickr.

Check back in a little bit for an import south of the border.

WTF Friday: CBS Super Van

2

Have to thank Ollie again for bringing awesome cars into my life, this time in the form of a Van called the Supervan. What is the CBS Supervan you might ask?

Well on paper the CBS Supervan was a promotional vehicle but that doesn’t mean it shares any similarities with other promotional vehicles like say the Oscar Meyer Weiner mobile.

Alan Arnon, the marketing manager of CBS automotive parts built this as a promotional one off sometime in the 80s. (CBS made brake pads, clutches, belts etc)

Starting as a standard Bedford CF the most noticeable modification done to this Van at first glance is the wide body but beneath all of that custom bodywork lies the real craziness.

This van is powered by a 4.4 Rover v8 motor, has a Jaguar XJ12 front and rear suspension (that’s the one with inboard brakes), air shocks, Recaro seats with speakers in the headrests… the list goes on and on.

Basically the CBS Supervan is a super awesome van that once roamed the uk but seems to have have vanished over the years.

Apparently it is being mothballed so really someone needs to find it and bring it back out.

More info on this van including scans of a feature in Hot Rods And Customs can be found here on The Amazo Effect which is also where I grabbed these photos.

A store restock is in the works along with an affiliate setup that will allow you guys to custom order the stickers in any color to suit your needs.

Flashback Friday

I know this wasn’t really all that long ago but since we have been talking about fans on the fanpage all week I figured why not throw back to the Previa/Estima Theme Tuesday which is one like away from 100.

K Car…wagon!?

7

Most people (in North America) remember the K car for the simple fact that they were everywhere for awhile.

Personally I knew someone who’s dad drove a sky blue one and treated it like gold. He washed it every weekend and stored it in the winter.

I stumbled across this particular K wagon while avoiding the sharp ends of pitchforks from anti stance Mopar drivers when I was doing the ‘Turbo Dodge’ Theme Tuesday.

The owner owned it once, sold it, then bought it back and did this. The end result is somewhat reminiscent of older Japanese wagons… somewhat.

K cars seem to have disappeared from the roads around be but surely they all couldn’t have died.

Someone has probably just hoarded all of them for the zombie apocalypse.

Thread with more info on xceedspeed.

Probably the most interesting use of an odd platform I have posted since 95naSTA’s Bonneville

2012 Canadian International Auto Show Part: 2

4

Before I begin part 2 of the coverage from the Canadian International Auto Show let me say I missed a few manufacturers on media day, most notably Mazda, BMW, and Scion.

I only ended up with about four hours to shoot and trying to cover the show in that time while still being somewhat social proved a little more difficult than I thought.

Next year I will make sure to get the entire day off work for the media day festivities because if nothing else it will at least equal more free fancy USB keys.

All that being said there are still roughly 50 photos in today’s coverage put the total CIAS coverage so far up in the 80+ photo range.

I’ll start things off with the concepts I saw…

Cadillac Urban Luxury

This is Cadillac’s attempt at luxury in a small package and it reminds me of what the G1 Transformers looked like back on Cybertron.

Despite it’s odd shape and sharp angles it has got a few redeeming qualities including a 1.0L turbo motor that gets an extra kick in the pants from an electric motor when necessary.

I can see people trying to copy these doors all ready...
The interior is actually not too unlike something I could see produced

Kia KV7

Kia calls this an ‘urban passenger vehicle’ (which I suppose is better than Soul XL) and it is packed with electronics (including wifi). A turbo 2.0 also sits under the hood which Kia says makes ‘up to’ 285hp.

KDM on the rise?

I could see box fans doing some ok stuff with this... possibly
Like I said... Soul XL

Corvette Stingray Concept

I was a little surprised to see this at the show because, correct me if I am wrong, hasn’t this car been in the concept stage since 2009?

Regardless this was my first time seeing the car (not surrounded by explosions on screen) and after seeing it in the metal I wouldn’t be against them making it into production like this.

Surprised it didn't have Autobot badging on it
Looks like an auto trans 'P' in there... but that wouldn't be right....

Honda NSX

Not much really needs to be said about the NSX concept that hasn’t already, I am however interested to see whether the final production model looks even remotely similar to this.

Not that I could afford one of course.

I worry the lights will be first on the chopping block for the production model
Lower it. (Front especially)
Soon after this photo the guy in the back there covered the car back up

Jaguar CX-16

Of the concepts I saw on Thursday the one that impressed me the most was the Jaguar CX-16. I had no idea it was going to be there (largely due to me not paying attention to Jaguar in the 2000 Ford years) and in person this car is pretty spectacular.

Good on Jaguar for promising to release this soon.

Jaguar states it has perfect 50/50 weight distribution
A 3.0 Tubro v6 sits up front that makes 380hp

Moving on now from the concept cars to the production cars.

Suzuki

This is the only thing that interested me in the Suzuki booth
Good thing to notice though..

Subaru

The platform the BRZ was on was rotating way too fast
At least I got photos of one of the Toybarus

Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep

As a big fan of the original Jeep SRT8 I am a little disappointed with the 2012 model... it looks sedated
Shame a license plate has to be put on the front of this in Canada
JK8 Wrangler

Ford

ST Focus =/= UK Focus RS 🙁
Hopefully Ford strengthened the frames on the new Raptor...

Chevy

One mean looking bowtie
There was a lot of radio advertisement for this Foose Cruze charity car
Sonic Z- Spec
Brembros, BBS wheels, and a snail underhood? Not bad Chevy, not bad at all
Hotwheels leading the way... with a little help from Chevy

Volvo

K-Pax Racing C30
Went from stock to race car in 4 weeks
Driver Aaron Povoledo is signing autographs at the show

Audi

I could see all of these wheels lookin' good on some dubs...
Audi had this cool case full of revolving scale cars
Audi Union Type C... step up from Power Wheels
TT RS
Not fully sold on the spoiler
The mighty R8
I have yet to pilot a car with a gated shifter...

Honda

Honda Canada / Performance Auto And Sound Remix 2.0 project
Sitting on 20" Vossens this Accords got a supercharger under the hood, someone just needs to wind the BCs coils down
More used to seeing these in Toronto in the summer
A bit of a tease sitting still

Nissan and Infiniti

After looking at the BRZ the GTR looks HUGE
As always I like it when manufacturers cater to the enthusiasts at any level
As soon as I saw this I spent the rest of my time in the Infiniti booth shooting it...
Magnificent piece of machinery
Rebull and their wings
Controller for the best video game ever

I might be going back to the show before it closes to see a couple more things, if I do anything you think I should get a shot of?

Winter Wednesdays: Finnish

4

With a name like No Pokemon Shit it is clear from the start that this Finnish car ‘club’ is a little different.

The name might be a little odd but from what I can tell No Pokemon Shit means no body kits, no wings, no gimmicks.

Just low, clean, and to the point.

This fastback is one of their ongoing projects and a great example of they style they believe in.

These pictures are from a 2011 refresh.

More on the No Pokemon Shit Forums and Stance | Works.

I’m still on the hunt for some cars in even colder climates and deeper snow so we’ll see if I can’t get some up here next week.

Theme Tuesdays: E30s Part III – God’s Chariot Edition

4

For the third e30 Theme Tuesday installment I hooked up with fellow maxbimmer member Steve (Bullet Ride) who in addition to owning an e30 runs a tumblr called God’s Chariot that I happen to follow.

God’s Chariot, in Steve’s opinion, just happens to be the e30.

A few quick pm’s back and forth later and we have a Theme Tuesday made up of my favorites of his favorites.

Early Models

Dish for days
Tough as hell
Spark it or park it
Carman's e30
Mtech I

Late Models

Streetclass x Chop Shop x Gods Chariot
It's chalk... and I don't mind it
God bless e30 owners and their creativity, in my opinion this works surprisingly well
Static?
Is that a.... santa hat?
Can not place this kit, help.
These wheels suit the lines of the e30 quite well...
One of the cleanest mtech II coupes ever build period
Ellipsoids > Sealed beams
Holy crap this is amazing.
Super charged s62.... my god.
Steve's own charriot

Tourings and cabs

These wheels trigger r3vlimited flashbacks for me
Matt's Touring is no stranger to this blog, I think these are his old wheels

M3s

e30 m3 rally cars ftw
Sidling with this car is impossible... hopefully you get the reference
Problem officer?

The photos in this post are just a small sampling of the amount Steve has so if you are an e30 fan check out God’s Chariot.

2012 Canadian International Auto Show Part: 1

1

By now I am sure most of you are aware that the Canadian International Auto Show is currently being held at the Metro Toronto Convention Center until February 26th.

In addition to your typical auto show fare (concept cars, new models, 2012 updates, and so forth) the show also has a number of specialty rooms showcasing Triumps, Classic cars, and Exotic cars.

Most of the coverage I have seen online overlooks these rooms so instead of starting with the manufacturer rooms the Stance Is Everything coverage will focus on three of the specialty rooms.

Not being obligated to attend any of the press conferences opened up a lot of great photo opportunities on media day.

Legendary Motorcar and the The Pagaini Zonda R

Of the three rooms posted today the Auto Exotica room is the one that has received the most coverage online largely in part to Legendary Motorcar Company (whom I visted in 2010) bringing along the privately owned Pagani Zonda R they store at the Milton facility when the owner is not driving it around the track.

One very expensive, very beautiful, track toy
Currently the only one with black wheels instead of gold
Getting photos of this was particularly hard due to where it was positioned and the foot traffic around it
Magnificent

If you’ve never been to LMC it is totally worth the trip, I plan to go back in the spring and see what else is new since my visit.

Auto Exotica

In addition to the Zonda R the Auto Exotica room also held host to a variety of other exotics far out of the price range of the average man or woman.

LMCs Barnfind 300SL that they got from the second owner
The Fisker Karma was a treat to see, a 400hp luxury hybrid sounds like a fun time
Pfaff Tuning and McLaren Toronto brought this MP4-12C
The twin turbo v8 back their spits out 592 horse... no big deal..
This color is simply amazing in person
Pfaff Tuning also wanted to highlight that they are Rotiform dealers
As well as HRE dealers
Lotus of Ontario and their two of hearts
*Insert Fast & Furious quote here*
Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport now available in blue

Haggerty Cruise Nationals Exhibit

While I was avoiding having champagne spilled on me (seriously) in the Auto Exotica room I noticed that the Cruise Nationals room was practically empty so I made my way over.

With the exotics right across the hall I fear a lot of people are going to overlook this room, which would be a shame.

After featuring the Taylor'd 57 I 've been a little more drawn too older Chevy and GMCs
This one was in exceptional shape, especially the chrome
No mater how hard Dodge tries they will never be able to replicate this front end
Supercharged 355 '34 Ford Tudor
Another look at this red beauty
Deuce coupe, a necessary part of any classic exhibit
A pulled back view of the Duece
Closer look at that bowtie heart
The car of the room in my opinion was this 1955, Viper Red, Chevy Bel air bagged with an LT-1 V8
The few people in the room were asking how this car drives so low...

Triumph Display

On my way to the Auto Exotica display I got side tracked by this amazing Triumph display put together by Castrol and the Toronto Triumph Club.

While the free food, beer, and ongoing press conference in the Auto Exotica room explains why it was empty on media day I’m not sure why there still isn’t much coverage of this area.

For those who have yet to go to the show this is located on the 700 level, don’t miss out.

How could I pass this up?
British Racing Green.
Beautiful TR6 on the way to the room at the end
This interesting Triumph delivery van, I think it is a Commer express?
Actually had way more cargo room than I was expecting
A Dove GTR4 one of 43... ever.
According to Wikipedia these cost almost as much as a Jag E type when new
The Triumph owners club memebers allowed me to go behind the stanchions and get up close and personal with the cars
Peter Bulkowski TR-8
Originally raced in the 1980s
I believe 42 designates it as the Canadian entry (there were 3 more built raced by different teams)
The car currently sees action in historical races
Not sure when I would be able to shoot something like this again I took a lot of shots...
Though I don't think any of you mind...
Check this room out, please!

CIAS 2012 Coverage will continue Wednesday with pictures from the main halls, stay tuned.

WTF Friday: Bucket List

3

For something that is comprised of a chassis and motor that are worlds apart this Lamborghini v12 powered Ford Model T actually doesn’t look all that alien.

Photographer Chris Rowe‘s caption of the vehicle ‘Like Powering an Elise with a Viper engine‘ is pretty accurate as I suspect both swaps would yield the same smokey results if you were to stomp on the gas pedal.

Visually my favorite area of the car is firewall forward as I feel it flows the best with the beautiful ITB’s really stealing the show and looking right at home behind the brass(?) adorned lamps and radiator surround.

The polished header to no further exhaust is also a nice touch.

The rear wheels, as wide as they are, and the overall length of the front end throw me off a little bit but traction is a necessary thing and long motor is long.

Sadly no running video… actually a surprising lack of info about this car period.

I spotted it on vortex, tracked down the photographers flickr, and then the trail went cold.

If you know more I would love to hear it.

Site Updates

Went to the Canadian International Autoshow Media day yesterday afternoon, coverage will be up Monday though I might drop a few teaser photos on the fan page tomorrow while I edit.

I only ended up with 3 usb keys 🙁

Flashback Friday

Only seems right to go back to this post titled when men were men. Seems fitting.

Joe you still out there?

Featured Ride: Andrew’s 1991 CRX

5

Imagine for a second what it would be like to live in a place where all aftermarket parts come from abroad and wind up costing up to 20% more than the list price before the shipping service takes their cut.

Then imagine that the roads you travel are more often than not in such a state of disrepair that even stock height vehicles have trouble getting from point A to point B without being ravaged by potholes large enough to fit a ZAZ 965.

What you are imagining is probably still just a little shy of the reality enthusiasts from Ukraine and the surrounding area face day in and day out.

Regardless of these almost insurmountable odds these eastern European stance enthusiasts (who more often than not are brought together by LowerAndWider.com) are as dedicated as they come, with Andrew (aka Suhar) being no exception.

Suhar picked up his ‘rex for the equivalent of $9000 US dollars a few years ago and in addition to standard daily duties he used it to chase down fellow countrymen JDR at local track and autocross events.

As his desire to go fast grew Suhar knew that a dedicated track car was in order so he picked up an AE86 and relegated the CRX to street use.

After noting a distinct lack of clean street prepped CRXs in his area Suhar realized that his recently weekend retired track toy was only a few subtle modifications away from becoming a stand out daily driver.

The coils already fit to the car provided a great starting point and were soon treated to a complete rebuild. While the suspension was on the bench, and the car on jack stands, all of the  bushings were replaced with custom units that far surpassed OEM specifications.

All four corners gained further adjustment capability thanks to a combination of camber arms (Skunk2 up front, Blox out back), and toe arms (Blox once again).

When combined the upgraded suspension pieces keep the car suspended just out of harms way and give Suhar the ability to align his car based on its current ride height and whichever set of wheels are currently affixed to the car. Be it his winter set of Black Racing ProN1 wheels, or his current set of summer wheels which are 15×8 ET+10 Rota Shakotans wrapped in 195/45 Yokohama S.Drive tires.

Plans to go more aggressive after the winter chill passes are already in the works.

Modifications retained from this cars track days include a custom carbon fiber roof skin (sans moon-roof), Rotora brakes (drilled and slotted rotors/ceramic pads), Goodrich stainless steel lines, a Bimarco Futura bucket seat, 4 point harness, and a Sparco Safari wheel.

Considering how rare clean and unmolested CRXs are becoming in North America it is nice to see that at least one is in good hands over in Europe.

Hopefully this car is good inspiration for those of you who face similar issues to those in Eastern Europe to keep plugging away at your builds.

Winter Wednesdays: idub

5

The guys from idub.ca dropped a link to their fanpage on the Stance Is Everything fanpage the other week and since I had not been to the site in awhile I took a look around.

After a few laps around the forums I loaded up the homepage and found the following pictures of Justin’s GTI.

Justin’s Golf isn’t rocking your typical salt covered exterior and steel wheels winter look that’s for sure.

A full feature of this car is on the idub site so go take a look and while you are there feel free to sign up to the forums and tell Calvin to put on his winter wheels.

He is making the rest of us look bad.
