After the 2012 CSCS opener came and went, and photos began to surface online, I noticed one of his photos on the Circuit Soul fan page and honestly couldn’t believe it was from the same event I was at.
When the full set of photos dropped I was only further impressed, and after sharing one of those photos on the fan page I noticed a lot of you were too so I asked Charles if I could run a few more of his shots and these are the ones he sent over.
Most of Charles work goes over to the guys at Circuit Soul but as the season goes on I hope to be able to twist his arm now and again to let me run a little bit here as well, currently you can view the rest of his work at flickr.com/photos/cspivakphoto
After a cottage bachelor party weekend a little recovery time was in order (hence the lack of Monday post), so this weeks Theme Tuesday gets lead off honors and as such I might as well go with something big.
The last dually Theme Tuesday went over very well so I had started pulling together a second almost immediately after.
Something about a big laid out truck that can still pull a trailer (and more slammed trucks) is just so appealing.
Looks like the bed side is in between the tires... sorta like a VWSquare body crew cabs are probably the ones that hit the floor the most oftenVia the Metal Worx fanpageJust fits on the trailerLove it when people preserve the original paintS10 crew cab dually? Pretty interestingAnother s10 but regular cab, also missing a bed which leads me to believe that it might be hard to make it look 'right' with the bedI love how the rear wheels fit on slammed duallys, it is not all the time trucks get dishLong mirror is longHips don't lieHauling capability retainedFree Willy?Wouldn't want to be the one to put one of these on a trailerReg Cab dually, incredible looking truckI was pretty shocked I didn't include this in part oneI really wish I could find more (bigger) photos of it on these wheelsThis was found in the same thread as the truck aboveMore single cab duallyNicholas H posted this up in the comments of part 1Love work in progress shotsStill want to shoot some of this myselfHUGELast thing I expected to find on a generally Honda focused blogLike the striping and red guts in this thisSame truck (I believe) from the frontFound this one on s10forumThe frame on it is pretty damn ridiculous as wellEnd with this Nissan with a Chevy bed that might cause a stir
This post may have been influenced by the amount of Vanfest photos currently popping into my personal Facebook feed.
Still not sure which spelling is correct and it seems I am not alone.
With the past two weeks being full of event coverage and photos to go through I was a little glad to not have had not had to look far for some oddities to post today.
Both of these gems were spotted during my semi monthly lap of s10 forum. Both started as standard pickups but are now so much more, or so much less depending on how you take the following.
First up is this beauty of a 6×6 that used to be an s10, questions regarding the drive train and suspension setup on this truck I only wish I could answer.
The rats nest under the hood suggests that the motor isn’t stock at least.
The eagle inspired the title of this post, and the rest convinced me to have a liquid lunchThis is the first time I have seen a six wheeler with a wheel base only slightly longer than a 4
This second truck is probably the biggest mis-mash of vehicles I’ve posted since this Corvette and that is saying quite a bit.
This second beast is much more disturbing The body work does look surprisingly straight howeverAnyone want to take bets on if this was ever finished?I'm willing to bet not... but this front end makes me think there is a faint possibility... nah
As much as I hate to say it if anyone has anymore info on the second I would be interested, if nothing more than to find out where that front end came from.
Site Updates
No events this weekend as I am going somewhere my car can’t (a cottage) but there will be no shortage in content next week as I have not one but two sets of photos to edit and get posted in the near future.
There are a few shows in the area that for one reason or another I am never able to attend, Vanfest being one and Spring Fling being another.
Taking place practically around the corner from my house at the Canadian Club Hansa Haus this almost 10 year show is known for bringing out some of the best euro cars in the area, which makes missing it year after year a real bummer.
This year instead of having no coverage on the site I reached out to Scott Holmes once again for some guest coverage. Scott said no problem and while I was at CSCS my girlfriend also swung by Spring Fling (unbeknownst to me) to see what all the fuss was about which has given me the unique opportunity to present to you coverage of an event from two perspectives.
Scott’s Coverage
Scott showed up around 10 and left about 1 when the weather took a turn for the worst but in that time he manged to catch quite a few of the quality cars in attendance.
He also managed to catch the raffle of products by show sponsors (Euroline, Durham dent removal, Burling, and Autoglym to name a few) and witness a girl who doesn’t have her license win an exotic car test drive.
Scott is probably correct in his assumption that her father is about to receive an awesome fathers day gift.
I missed this car at Stretch & Poke glad Scott got a great shot of itNice touch with the steels on this Harley, I could see banded steels working really well hereA MKIII like this will never go out of style, simple, timeless, and lowNew Lawnmower for the Club Hansa HausEverytime a BBS gets damaged a Wheel Whore is bornThis is really nice, and I am not a huge fan of yellow carsThis car looks to be a beast, I'll have to try and get more info on it for you allFor now Scott's peak under the hood will have to doWheel specs bang on this Jetta, basically perfectly inline with the fender all around. It also looks like a lip might be somewhere under that front bumperCloser look at the fitment*Miami face eating joke here*If you like a little more poke that the one above this one's got you coveredand another closer lookStill very much in love with how this 930 looksRallye's (in my experience) are one those cars you don't see often but when you do they are always niceThis one won people's choice
Lyndsey’s Coverage
From the sounds of it Lyndsey arrived shortly after Scott left right before the weather really got unfavorable.
Hopefully the owner thought to throw an umbrella up there Kinda looks like it reads 'I am Volkswagen the VW stig'If I am not mistaken Josh is one of the people behind the eventTwo tone working surprisingly well here, though it could be the whole bottom color and I wouldn't mind in the slightestA lip of some sort would really finish this Corrado off I thinkCan't readily recall the last time I saw a MkI Jetta coupeSinister looking MKIVContrasted by a Clean looking MKIVPfaff Auto brought out one of their McLarensAnd their 964 project that I recently had a chance to shoot and ride around inThis car is on my long list of local cars to take more photos ofRear look at the Audi Scott got an under hood shot ofAt this point I am a yay on this car on Aero II'sLast time I saw this car was at Vagkraft and I never thought to see it one colorSuits it pretty well thoughOne of these cars is not like the other...This is simply a gorgeous colorSteve showin' off his swapSide profile of the VW bus that I posted on the fan page MondayGotta love that air-cooled camber out backLooks like two of the same color in this shotLyndsey is a pretty big Bug fan so these last three are her favorites of the show
Big thanks to Scott (who recently started his own blog Woah!Low) and Lyndsey for covering this event in my absence.
Didn’t have a whole lot of time to work on the Spring Fling coverage last night so until I get a chance to put that up this evening (or tomorrow) I’m going to post this e31 on Work Emitz wheels I spotted on the Stance Works forums a few weeks ago.
I must say I never thought these wheels and this car would work together so well.
These wheels vaugly resemble Daytons from the sideBut at a slightly different angle they are a different beast entirelyLegitimately a poster quality photoAss so fat you could see it from the frontVictory.
Being unique without having to resort to extremes or cliches is always appreciated, props to the owner who also happens to be a damn good photographer.
Back with the second and final part of the CSCS season Opener coverage with today focusing on the show & shine and Stretch & Poke Fitted showcase.
The CSCS show & shine is always an interesting mix of cars and I have tried to capture a lot of them here, I missed out on a couple between heading back and forth to the track and talking to people but there is a good mix of what was there in this coverage.
Chances are a lot of the cars present Sunday will be at later events so I’m more than certain I will get everything before the season is out.
Random stuff
Trying to pick this back up again because there is no shortage of weird, wild, stuff at car shows in the GTA.
InflatawifeThe owner of this car signed up to jdmrides a long time ago and I always kind of thought it wasn't a real person just someone trolling, guess I was wrongHello Muffler
Kimi Qin
Kimi Qin is reportedly the driver I dubbed ‘Racer-X’ in yesterdays coverage and in addition to the Mine’s GTR he brought out two Ferraris and 3 women in tight dresses.
They say money can’t buy happiness and while it’s true I never saw Mr. Qin smile he didn’t look mad either.
One of his two Ferrari'sA look at the Ferrari's bindersThe Mine's GTR stopped, yes those women stood there all dayThe cars, plus the women drew quite a crowdThe things money can buy
Nokturnal
US based car club/show team Nokturnal made it out for the CSCS opener and brought along some of their more unique projects, new york guys seem to really love marble paint.
Ever wonder what a Rolls Royce front end on Monte Carlo would look like?No me either... but someone did so they build thisBagged Can Am Spyder on custom wheels that was at CES this yearIpad in the tank, and speakers everywhere this was a very clean (though unorthodox) buildAndrew rolls with Nokturnal nowAnother year, another paint job for this Gen
Domestics
If I hung around the strip a bit more I probably would have seen a few more domestics.
Sleeper FestivaThis car would walk me though no doubt about itThis car passed me later on the highway and honestly looks really odd rolling the way it is setupThis S10 from Street Outlawz is a CSCS regular vehicle, the paint on this truck is pretty awesome, changes under the light but nothing to the point where it looks tackyThe bed setup is also pretty wild, never noticed it before, or the Bride seatsAnother shot of Sean's Escape 3.0 powered Contour that people seemed to love to hate from the fan page
Fiat, Volvo, Alfa Romeo, Volvo, VW, Porsche
Government mandated bumpers, disrupting the flow of cars since the second they were requiredThe Fiat many of you liked from Hot Wheelz has changed, a LOTThe guy in the background is making sure what he is seeing is real lifeFrom what I have read Volvos are a right pain to get lowNot a car I really expected to see at CSCS but every once and awhile people surprise mePair of Golfs bridging the generation gapPolished CCWs, practically the new LMDidn't get to see this Porsche out on the track but I wish I did, nice to see people out in different cars
Imports
Widescreen, standard defI have not seen Gabe, or his Mazda 3, in over a year, lots of Shinzo work on this carThe comic book lip is pretty unique, though I would have gone with a G1 comics myselfJon's Mazda 3 on his new bright green XXR wheelsTom of Nine 0 Five rides recently switched up quite a bit on his Celica including new wheels and a lower ride heightHe also shaved the bay and had it airbrushedShout out to the owner of this car for the supportThanksKiller looking FD closer to the trackNice bay too
Stretch & Poke Fitted Showcase
Stretch & Poke teamed up with CSCS to have their first trophy show for 2012 at the CSCS season opener, while the turnout wasn’t as big as their meet the weekend before it was pretty good again considering the weather mans predictions of doom for the day and the fact that Spring Fling (coverage soon) took out most of the VWs.
I even managed to score some tire shine in the raffle.
Carolina's very clean roadsterYou can get with this, or you can get with thatElevated's Lexus, unique colorBrian's car getting some love in the Meguair's boothJeff managed to go an entire week without smashing his oil panDylan's KoukiSaw him pulled over by the local PD on the way home, hope it wasn't anything to seriousThis hatch proves that less is moreJeff took home first place in the air categoryBlain rolled into secondand Justin took home thirdJustin's GTI is so nicely put togetherDan (yellow s2k) got first in static, James (blue s2k) got second, and Stephen (Gold Civc) got thirdHard to argue that Dan isn't worthy of a first place trophy
That’s it for this round of CSCS coverage, the next round is June 24th at Grand Bend which is the same day as the Nine-O-Five Rides Truck & Tuner expo.
I’m looking to get coverage of both and I can only be in one place at a time so if you are in either Grand Bend or Niagara and feel like contributing footage from one of those two shows please shoot me an email (stanceiseverything at(@) gmail.com.
If you listened to the weatherman all week long than you are probably one of several people who skipped out on CSCS opener this weekend in fear of rain which is a shame because outside of a few quick showers most of the event was actually dry.
The drag strip was busy most of the day (which I was surprised to see) and the road course saw heavy use by both the time attack drivers and the drifters.
Today’s coverage will begin on said course, for this round of CSCS I was able to get a media pass and get right out on track which is something I have never been able to do before.
Drifting
Something that had not occurred to me about shooting on course was the interaction between photographers on each corner, I basically tried to keep to myself and out of peoples shots, but getting prime territory was a hard fought battle and if you were in someones shot they let you know.
One of the photographers ended up putting his Go Pro where he couldn’t be in hopes it would get great footage but instead it got smashed into hundreds of tiny pieces.
As I said on facebook late Sunday night, this was my favorite vehicle of the eventThe fact that the driver could hold is own only made it betterI really hope to see him at later events and get some closer shots of this truckChris ran into some trouble (well a hay bale) later in the day which was a bit of a bummer, not sure the final fate of his e30 nowOne of the early top 8 competitorsI don't recall seeing much of Marin last year but he's back at it this year and doesn't seem to have lost a stepDylan was driving pretty well all day but this was too funny to not includeDrifters anonymous car I think...Ryan Stock always makes it pretty far at CSCS eventsRyan Stock and Anthony keeping it close in their tandem battleAntony's consistency all day made him really easy to take photos ofHis initiation points were always pretty much the sameAs was his speed and angle, he ended up taking home the 1st place spotJust another reason why this truck was awesomeDylan on the left ended up going until his tire blew sending chunks of rubber my wayOne of my favorite photos of the day
Time Attack
The biggest buzz around the track at this round of CSCS was whether or not the unknown, rumored Chinese Grand Prix competition driver, would be able to take the track record (1:13.9) from Sasha Anis.
With no practice ‘Racer-X’ manged to get the fastest lap of the day (1:16.9) but wasn’t able to topple Sasha, I am sure he wasn’t two sad though as he brought two Ferrari Scuderia’s along with him and his own entourage of women.
Looking forward to seeing the battle for top spot continue at later CSCS events.
This car would link turns on three wheels it was pretty crazyTeknotik sponsored DCNV Autos SubaruLooks great, performs even betterTook a lot of pictures of this car actuallyThis car is 100% street legalDefcon Racing put down the fastest unlimited FWD time at 1:17Congrats to them, running that fast is no small featThis JRP/HSD FD is always a consistent runner and fast carSo fast in fact I couldn't get it all into frame most of the timeGot lucky hereThe aforementioned unknown driver going after the crownJust a few shy of the record
Show & Shine coverage should be up tomorrow, with Fitted coverage the following day.
Awhile ago the Topless Theme Tuesday came and went with not a single Miata in sight. Rightfully I was immediately called out for ignoring Mazdas good looking, and capable, little roadster.
Miata fans worldwide don’t fret, this snubbing wasn’t intentional and just a huge oversight on my part I plan to make up for today.
Before I jump right into ‘hard parked’ examples here are some that are setup with more of the boxes ticked in the function side than form.
Nice balance between function and form on both of theseDrift car from Japan, couldn't find higher res sadlyAwesome little MiataPosing with a Honda powered friendThis is a Speed Hunters (if you couldn't tell) feature car from 2010Gets driven as you can seeFound this in a thread talking about fairly large sized spacers oddly enoughKnown as the SA baby monster I think it puts down just shy of 300hp
The complete opposite of the above just because.
Perhaps a little too much...
And now onto the ones that just plain look good
More for the poke fansNot too long ago this car was everywhere, certainly a love or hate kind of carThis shoot with Taryn of I <3 Stance was also everywhereV2 Lab, drove under a truck and used to be chalkboard paint, MiataNot too many cars can pull of the 4 spoke but the Miata does it wellThe more I stare at this the more the front end starts to resemble a fish... creepin me out, my issues aside nice looking MiataThe off color hardtop look isn't bad hereFellow Mazda fitment member, and the newest Miata in this postI think these are the off road TE37s look great on this car that looks as though it could shred those mountainsAviator Grey and SSR Mk1sInterior Crocodile AlligatorIf I were to have anything but polished lips...MoneyAnother rollerHardtop would set this one offNo word of a lie the definition of 'Fap' came up in a work meeting yesterdayand last but certainly not least
The next time Miatas make an apperance in the Theme Tuesday category it will be all local (or at the very least all Canadian) cars, then after that perhaps only swapped ones…
On the passenger side are the silver polished 19×9 -10/19×10 -6 Leon Hardirtt Waffle wheels you probably remember from his feature and on the drivers side are the similarly sized, previously gold, BBS LMs he had on at Megaspeed.
I say similar because I know he has plans to flip the faces and re barrel them so I am not 100% sure where they sit at right now.
Either way the new clear coated white primer look suits his car much better than the gold did but, this isn’t the final look either.
What is? Who knows other than Yudi himself.
Yudi has also started a new company called the Wheel Estate which is provides 24/7 tire sale pick up and delivery in the GTA.
If you are looking for a particular wheel chances are Yudi could also help you out there as well and should you have any doubt he can guide you down the right path in regards to fitment scroll back up.
Patina, as a car styling element, is an interesting thing.
Many feel that cars need to earn their patina through years of dedicated service, or in some cases neglect, like this 51 COE, and the Taylor’d 57, while others think it patina is something that can applied or encouraged, using home brewed concoctions and techniques similar to what was done to Rusty.
But what happens when you want to add some patina to a vehicle that looks old, but really isn’t, and is made of a material that doesn’t rust?
Well then you do what Todd Varble and Quebec based Oze Rod Shop INC did; drill it, paint it, and graft metal onto it until it looks like it was a car saved from someones driveway where a ‘for sale’ sign was slowly disintegrating behind the windshield.
This was the starting point, a fiberglass Ford based body on a 37 Ford ChassisAnd this was the initial sketch
This car isn’t all paint and mimicry though the suspension and chassis are genuine Ford and a hot rod worthy Chevy LS1 gets this reliable, yet dilapidated, looking rod moving.
Drilled holes, acrylic paint, and probably dirt... much like how you would weather a model carMetal grafts and vintage letter workLS1 somewhat disguised by fake valve covers and plug wiresTricky, tricky
The finished product is pretty awesome and a true testament to the fact that there are no rules to hot rodding just differences in opinion.
Certainly looks the part of a vintage rodShots really suit it too
Of course the finished product isn’t without its controversy, the motor choice coupled with the exterior treatment caused people to send death threats to the Hot Rod Magazine office after it made the cover in 2006.
Got an interesting photo shoot lined up tomorrow morning (check the facebook page in the morning for updates) and on Sunday I will be at the CSCS season opener.
I will have t shirts and stickers on me so look out for me, my car should be in the ‘Fitted’ showcase.
