Event Coverage: Mosport DMCC Part 2

1

In between the qualifying runs and the finals at DMCC I took some time to quickly pass through the show and shine/pit area so it only makes sense that the coverage of said show and shine appears between the qualifying coverage and finals coverage.

In hindsight it was free to enter the show and shine so I should have thrown my car in for kicks, next year…

Over view of the show and shine

Hondas

Few shots of some of the cleaner looking Hondas at the show

Focal Points Concepts came to shine
Needs General Lee style numbers 😛
Clean to the point RSX
Every time I see Matt he has new or different colored wheels
Took a peak at his interior which was clean as expected
I think I like these wheels most of what he has run this year
A way better picture of the Turbo EL from Importfest

Subarus

I didn’t see to many AWD cars at the show now that I think about it, wonder why 😉

Nice Subaru on Gram Lights
DGK All Day

Union Autoclub

The guys from Union are pretty much a given at any drifting event.

That lip should look sick mounted
Santiago from Static Motion/Visual Sugar's Silvia
Jesse picked up this drop earlier in the summer and has put a lot of work in on it
Should be painted soon

Shelby, BMW, Subaru, Datsun, Toyota, Nissan

Basically everything else…

Chris is always out
Beauty of a Datsun
With an interesting plate
Great looking Shelby
I think if I had the right car I would rock these Equps
Jimmy Up
Aloha

Pat’s Ae86

Took some time to check out Pat’s car up close, this car wears its wounds (and stickers) well.

Every time I was near Pat's car there was a crowd around it
This guy was checking out the swap
So I figured I would join in
Pat's rear window, thanks for the love man
Fresh rubber on the fenders, tons of camber up front

The Silvia

This car was at Stretch and Poke Two on half of this setup but now that he has the all four on the car looks crazy.

A lot of people stopped to check out the fitment, most notably the rear fitment.

F'in fitted
Diiiish
Fender vs tire, the battle continues

Check back tomorrow for the drift finals and podium coverage.

Event Coverage: Mosport DMCC Part 1

7

On Sunday September 19th 2010 I went out to my first Drift Mania Canadian Championship (DMCC) event, which just so happened to be their final East event of the year.

I had the long lens on the camera for most of the day which worked a treat for catching the action from the stands, and today’s coverage is what I caught in the qualifying rounds.

A lot of people have been saying that the course was not as fast as it could have been, but I still had a great time watching all of the drivers try and figure out the technical, multi-elevation course.

Furthermore I’m still a ‘noob’ when it comes to this drifting business so I will take what I can get, and anytime I can go out and support Pat Cyr and Drift Posse I am going to do it.

The Lineup

I’m going to do my best here to name the drivers who’s photos I took, if I miss label any please let me know.

Chris St John, one of the guys from CSCS
Kevin Grenier
Claude Poirier I believe
Bob Patinka in his glassless 240sx
Mats Baribeau's Gold in the net Mark II
Dany Bernier
This one is easy, Pat Cyr

Onto the action

As previously mentioned the track was pretty tricky with all of the elevation changes. A lot of drivers came in too hot and paid with spin outs and off track excursions.

The opposite side stands, where the judges were
Chris was having a little trouble Sunday but I am sure he will redeem himself this Sunday
If this was golf people would be fixing lots of divots
From entry this bumper was held on by zip ties
I thought it was a goner but it held fast
What would a drift event be without a bumper separation?
Frédéric Girard in his Rock Star 240sx
He was driving well and made it through to the finals
Kevin on it
Nice angle here
This v8 in this car screamed
Sliding one of the early turns in the course
Jean-François Chiasson Nice and sideways
Danny Bernier putting that work in
See all the matching shirts in the crowd? They were all rooting hard for this car
This was one of my favorite turns of the course to take pictures of if you have not noticed
Was really hoping to get a shot like this that day
Saw a lot of this big Mark II from Importfest getting sideways
Matt Waldin was having an exceptional day
No bumper no care
Pat's car sounds awesome and he came out fast
Since his car was smaller he could get it very sideways on the tight course
This is one of my favorite shots, car looks so pissed off

Check back tomorrow for Show & Shine pictures and Thursday for pictures from the finals, and perhaps check this page later for some photos I may or may not have forgot to add.

Theme Tuesdays: Classy Car Models Part 3

8

Time to fall back on another established Theme for this Tuesday, but I am pretty sure no one will mind as I have yet to see a gear head turn down photos of fine looking cars and fine looking women.

Oddly enough one common trend of Classy Models part one, part two and today’s part three is that each has had an older VW paired with a fine young lady.

VW owners are winning I guess, here we go:

Posted this car before, now it's joined by a lady in black
Do women prefer 8v or 16?
Nice shoes (x2)
Easy on the paint...
Ally Mcbeal
Beetles seem to attract women in skirts
Just enough clothes to be classy... right?
Rieger girl 1
Rieger girl 2, Also Rieger their swing up doors evidently
Damn (x2)
More VW love
Female drivers?! This picture is odd

Event Coverage: Applewood Plaza 09/15/10

7

Last week was fairly Import heavy and most of this week will be drift heavy so to show a little love to those who read the blog and are a fan of classic cars I swung by the Applewood Plaza cruise in last week and took some photos.

The turnout was not the largest that I’ve seen but it sure wasn’t the smallest either, and I got to chat with Rod, the owner of the Turbonique Rocket Kart, some more about just how crazy the whole Jet powered vehicle thing was.

No real order to the photos today, just going to post them up as they were on my hard drive after editing.

If I recall this was at least 600hp, but I think more in the 800hp range
Flying Native?
Love tubbed cars
It's been awhile since I have seen this AMX
Loved the Olive color on this Cuda
The wheels were cool too remind me of older cop cars
Clean and classy cruiser
Flat black Mercury truck with character
1950 ish Chevy Truck
With a wood lined bed I loved but would never use
I've been thinking that my get old and die with project might one day be a Grand Nat
I loved them even before I knew what powered them
Nice Austin-Healy
A buddy of mine has a rodded Malibu as well, doesn't look quite like this though
It was very clean all around
You need to look no farther than the site header to know I like Black Panteras
Mmmm.
Awhile ago on twitter I was talking about how I had not seen a Prowler in years
This was without a doubt the most modified one I have ever seen
Detailed all the way down to the brakes
Crowds are typical around the Turbonique kart

For Ollie and Joe

When I am at events I try and take photos of things I know my readers will respond too, whether it be women, funny stickers, random nonsense, or random cars.

More often than not when I post an odd car Ollie or Joe are the first to identify it, so I figured I should take some pictures of this car for them and the rest of you out there who are familiar with off beat cars.

Don’t ever say I don’t pay attention to the comments 😉

With a unique emblem like this I am sure it's easily identified
Knock offs on all 4 wheels
Rear engine, no badges in sight

WTF Friday: Bulgaria’s potholes are no joke

13

I saw these photos on the Stance Works forums and I was awe struck. We have some pot holes here that are worth avoiding but it seems that Bulgaria considers craters potholes.

These are not rota’s getting mangled either authentic BBS wheels just getting disrespected something fierce. It’s enough to make a wheel whore cry.

Ouch
Noooo... 🙁
Wow... Didn't know you could do a Type A like that
:/
Beginning of repair
Repaired??
I hope this is not a finished repair...
Is that a yard stick as refrence!?
I would turn around and go home, damn

Site updates

As the season starts to come to a close everyone is trying to get their last events in so it is keeping me pretty busy. This weekend DMCC is in town this wekeend and I’m really hoping to be able to make it out to that, then next weekend another CSCS and then after that the final Stretch and Poke meet or the year.

Look out for lots of event coverage over the next month as I have even stopped by a few classic shows in between import ones.

Flashback Friday

Low Civic Steep Drop, not much more to say here other than I am working on a Theme Tuesday of car tri-poding pictures.

Featured Ride: Aidan’s VIP IS300

18

Cruising through the streets of Yorkville I watch as Aidan carefully navigates his way past potholes and any parts of the road eager to damage his Crimson Inc Linea Sport rims and Version Select body parts.

Riding in the plush passenger seat I look past the Junction Produce curtains, and through the dark tints, at the reflection staring back at me and it’s at this moment I understand why the VIP style and culture are so appealing.

I say culture because as I would learn from my VIP tour guide those who pursue this rolling act of elegance completely immerse themselves in what it is to be VIP.

Similar to the notion ‘not the bright watch, but the right watch‘ the VIP culture is based around a certain caliber of parts and accessories not the sheer amount, which is why Aidan has spent the last year or so carefully selecting which parts to put on his IS300.

Looking from the inside out Aidan’s interior is complimented by a number of accessories that could just as easily be found in an upscale home as oppose to a car interior.

His authentic, custom made, Dolce & Gabanna pillows provide a lounge like experience for the rear passengers, while his VIP head rest coat hanger is the perfect place to hang your jacket while enjoying the surprisingly comfortable ride.

From the rear view mirror  hang both a Junction Produce Gold Kitsuna, and black Fusa which proudly display the fact that the style cues for this ride are deeply based upon the framework that has been laid down over seas.

For that extra little bit of luxury a Garson D.A.D key hole crystal is placed where the cigarette lighter would normally be found.

The front of the car has a Version Select bumper which Aidan has installed fog light blanks to house the custom FlashTech led strips which shine brightly in a color that matches his 6000k HID bulbs.

Finishing up the front end a chrome JDM Altezza Z-Edition grill sits between the OEM 2002 dark chrome headlights.

Around the back of the car Aidan chose to keep things simple and classy by adding a 2005 OEM Lexus RX330 antenna, a Nextmod TRD replica rear lip, and Kaminari roof spoiler, as well as dark chrome taillights to match the headlights up front.

What really sets off this car off, and what I noticed most in the passing reflection, is the stance which Aidan took  his time to carefully craft.

When viewing the side profile of Aidan’s car its nearly impossible to miss the Version Select side skirts which emphasize the healthy drop provided by Tein, Altezza spec, CS Version 1 (Gold Version) coil overs.

The car sits on Crimson Inc. Linea Sport rims (produced by SSR) which are 18×8 et +21 up front and 18×9 et+25 out rear with the front wheels being fitted with 215/40’s while the rear has 225/40 tires.

SPC camber kits have been installed on all four corners resulting in -1.5 degrees of camber in the front and -3.5 in the rear, combined with the rolled flat and 10mm pulled fenders rubbing is kept to a minimum.

The final sum of all these parts is a stance that looks impressive up close but really sets in the more you back away from the car.

The wheels fill the wells perfectly and the camber flows exceptionally well with the lines of the body.

While this car might be done for this season talking with Aidan I know that he isn’t anywhere near finished with this ride and plans to go around the car again over the winter as next season he has a ‘Baddest VIP” crown to defend.

Can’t wait to see what’s in store for 2010 and enjoy the rest of the pictures and complete modification list below.

Event Coverage: A Sunday BBQ

11

Last Sunday I was invited out to a pub in Markham for a casual gathering of local car enthusiasts. It was great to go from the busy car show atmosphere to a lazy patio venue all in the same weekend and just further proves that no matter how you love your cars the GTA has something for you.

The afternoon was a great opportunity for me to meet quite a few people I have interacted with online, in person for and see a lot of their cars first hand outside of the typical show venue.

The turn out was  pretty impressive as  well considering the weather was a little iffy. As the last days of summer blow through everyone is trying to squeeze those last few fair weather days of driving.

Since this was more a relaxing afternoon I didn’t take too many pictures but here are the few I did take.

Though I did manage to miss taking one of a certain red Subaru which I thought I did…next time sorry man 😛

Hell ya Pulsar!
Probably the most creative hood in the GTA
Still can't believe DC co owner Ken Block left Suabaru...
So much drama in the LBC...
Angry looking pig nose
Clean S
Nearly everyone was rocking kplayground.ca stickers

Thanks again for the invite Rish for inviting me out for an afternoon of nice cars, food, and good times.

Event Coverage: Importfest 2010 Pt. 2

9

Here is part two of the 2010 Importfest Coverage including some  of the rides from the Division R, Sic Ryde and Nextmod teams along with the winner of the ‘Baddest Stance‘ category which I helped judge. Additionally there are some awards ceremony shots  and a couple girls.

Off the top I would just like to thank Basit, Neil, Dave and the rest of the judges/organizers who put the show on for having me out to cover the event and letting me be a small part of it.

Congratulations on a great 10 year anniversary guys.

Division R

Sam’s team had a good showing at Importfest this year, expect this team to keep getting stronger, and stronger as time goes by.

Czero’s ground scraping Matrix
Division R’s Jetta on what I believe are Keskin Kt-1s
Interesting way to show off a fitting award
Thanks for the love
Hey look it’s Jackie
Thought you were selling Sam 😛
Every time I passed this car someone was commenting on the stretch

Sic Ryde

Sic put in a lot of work for this years Importfest, his teams area was well put together and they won a number of awards.

It was great to hear the Sic Ryde name called again, and again, during the awards because like all of the teams posted today he put in a lot of work in the weeks leading up to the show.

Sic always reps hard at every event he goes to in a way only he can
Smooth two toned Civic
The Sic Ryde team had their JDM bases covered as well
Junction Produce M45 (thanks Aidan)
Owned by Kingpin
LS getting it’s leaaaan on
Sic honestly surprised me with this m3, I had no idea he was getting into the BMW game
This Benz was sitting proper, when it’s a Sic Ryde you should expect that
One of Sic’s two Corrados
This car is always super clean, also note the S.R. crowd control barriers
And Custom emblems
His other Corrado has more of a standard body, but I doubt it’s factory under the hood

Nextmod

Peter came to Importfest this year with an astounding 30 cars, 8 of which he personally did the vinyl on. Like Sic Ryde his team took home a number of awards at the show.

The caliber of cars Peter brought to the show now as a number of people scrambling to be a part of his team for next years Importfest.

I’m fairly certain I will be doing rim shopping at Nextmod this off season so next year who knows…

Clean MR2 that I don’t think I’ve seen around before
Same goes for this Infiniti
Nice 6
This car was dumped!
As is this TL
Look at that shine…
Nextmod/APH Evo
Nice vinyl application Peter
Peter also did Pearly’s STI
Not to mention the graphics on his own car
Peter’s color combo was sick
And so was the general concept
Dave (Steezy) was showing his love for HF, WFC and it’s JDM yo
Showing the 8th gen’s how it’s done while representing Nextmod
Pleasure meeting you man
One of the cleanest bays in Canada I think…
With one of the best Civic fitments as well
One of these two cars won best stance, if you don’t already know who scroll down a bit…

Awards

Quite a few people I know personally, or have met this year took home awards. I was back stage for this part of the show so my girlfriend was kind enough to take pictures.

Peter from Nextmod with either an award for his car or best team
Sam collecting for his Z
Sic doin’ his thing
Aidan took home two awards this year baddest VIP and 2ns baddest IS250/300/350

Baddest Stance

As I mentioned way back in July one of the new classes this year to Importfest was BaddestStance and Basit, the organizer, was nice enough to extend his hand and let me have some involvement.

My role was simple enough, let the lead judge know who I thought had the Baddest Stance and as long as there was a consensus among all the judges this person took home the award.

Additionally I was also given the opportunity to personally hand off the award to the winner.

The 2010 ‘Baddest Stance’ Award went to Mike from properspecs.com and it was well deserved. His G is the perfect example of how to do stance right.

No one ever sees it and thinks ‘it could be a tad lower’ or ‘the wheels could come out a little bit’ because everything is in perfect harmony.

Just take a look at this stance:

From what I understand to get in he had to remove his side skirt and lip, dedicated to the game!

Here are some photos from when I presented the award to Mike.

Explaining who I am while trying to to drop everything all casted…
Getting our photo taken, sorry I jacked your model shot Mike I didn’t know about the photo op, lol

Thanks once again for everyone at Importfest for having me out and it was a pleasure meeting Mike, Dave, Neil and everyone else I met on Saturday.

Theme Tuesdays: FD RX-7s

3

I know I’ve done this body style of RX-7 before but truth be told there are so many nice ones out there that I will probably do the same theme a few more times.

Sorry for the amount repeats lately but I am working on a couple of unique Theme Tuesdays but they take time to pull together.

Besides it’s nothing but love for rotary’s right?

It's not often I like canards but onFD's I don't mind
Big intercooler
Most versatile Work wheels?
Fairly certain I have posted this car before just a different angle
No tire smoke this time
Unique finish on those wheels, dig the sleepy eyes also
One day I want to go to an underground parking lot meet, see what it's like
This car has a lot of aero but the murdered look keeps it from looking too busy
The rear end looks just as good
MB battles?
Looks like the same car as above but on Volks
Never seen one quite like this before...
CCWS 😀
Nice car, nice shot.
Never lift.

.

This is so radically different that the rest today but damn appealing.
Hoosiers, CF, and an American power plant, do like!
And finally some appreciation for it's near stock form

Another classy model post next week?
